piot, you're such a dumb piece of shit. granted, there is a large portion of this country which is very close minded. However, a lot of us are people who are not stupid, and many of the things you use in everyday life have come from the US. It's not a primative civilization at all. I'm starting to see why people call you a towel head.

the 911 thing, i think it was falwell who said that god let this happen because we were a nation of gay rights and abortions and other acts of the heathen

^I think he did... so did Alan Keyes, senatorial candidate from Illinois. He lost rather badly. At any rate, I certainly think that the fact that the Gay Marriage proposition was on the same ballot had a lot to do with the election results... if the churches turn out enough voters to knock that vote out of the park, as they did, the outcome can only favour Bush. It's part of the explanation, I'm sure.

keyes was a whipping boy in that race, i would have liked to see a republican go up against obama on such short notice and have anything other than a landslide. after DNC, he had the job

It didn't help that Keyes is a whack job. But yes, it was rather a foregone conclusion.

Thats some funny shit Melvs. And yes, Alan Keyes is a few acorns short of a bushel.

“McAmerica is the most primitive of the civilised world.

Poit, when the fuck are you going to stop? No one gives a shit about you gross generalizations. It’s incompetent morons like you that poison society. Please grow a brain.

that was some funny shit. I don't think Bush is pretending to be Christian though just to get votes. It's probably how he honestly feels and how a lot of others honestly feel. you can't just dismiss their beliefs because you don't share them.

We pay our debt sometimes.

Bush holds the record for most people executed while he was governer of texas. It's to bad that christians see keeping two loving people apart over saving human lives. I hate relgion. It blinds so many people to the world.

^Religion aside, I am for capital punishment.

Did bush make them commit the crimes? Did bush set the guildines to which crimes were punishable by death? It seems like that ones kinda out of his hands.

We pay our debt sometimes.

'The Democrats will not be able to win elections until they...stop encouraging abortions, gayness, and trying to take away our guns.'

I'm laughing right now. that's all I'm going to say about this. I'm sure Jesus is stoked we're capping iraqui teenagers right now. GOD BLESS AMERICA because we sure as hell need it.

'My knee hurts' (Jeff Merat after grinding a lunch table for an hour instead of sitting in the ski patrol shack for his torm mcl and acl which he got earlier that day.)

'I'm not asking for any help, just maybe for you to get off your ass.'(my dad)

Ice, you do realize that the US is one of the very few modernized countries that uses capital punishment? I do also realize that many other places where people aren't killed off. They are punished, but not killed.

I guess I am just against the death penalty except in the most extreme of cases (IE, Timothy McVeigh).

-Pat Melvin

Yeah death penalty isnt really working, The people who are killing each other out on our streets face death everyday so they arn't too detered by our current punishments. Also a life sentence is just free room and board for life payed for via taxpaying citizens, so thats not such a big deterant either. Thats why I propose we torture people (mentally or physically) for quite a few years for major crimes as a deterant.

We pay our debt sometimes.

jail is mental torture. Ask anyone who's been there that has gone in as a somewhat normal person.

I'm all for george carlin's ideas of turning a few selected states into prisom farms.

-Pat Melvin

Yeah true but still, I had a few friends that just got out of some hard time (about 2 years) last year. they told me how horrible it was at first but after a while like anything else you adjust. They said most of the time they just sat around listening to music, play cards and hanging out with their new friends, and lifting weights. All I can say about our current system is it's not doing an adequate job of detering criminals.

We pay our debt sometimes.

Religion is the root of ALL evil. God does not exist but is an social-achetype created by man, so as not to feel alone in times of need.

Religion is the cause of almost EVERY single war EVER on this insignificant little piece of junk touring around the sun. Problem is, Religion is one of the reasons mankind has grown so big, and unfortunately will likely be what destroys us in the end.

___________

f*ck Bush

^now that is just as stupid as the original letter. Just because you don't agree with something it doesn't make it evil. Voltaire said that 'If there was no God then it would be necessary for man to create one.' Society as a whole is controlled by religion for the better, if not we would have chaos and anarchy, people would not have a reason to ascribe to any moral or ethical system. Sure, religion has played a negative role in society from time to time, particularly the catholic church (do not confuse this with christianity as a whole.) Yet in the end, regardless of whether God is real or not, the basic order that religion instills in the people is beneficial rather then detrimental.

Ok, thats even more stupid: 'if not we would have chaos and anarchy'...

And funny enough I seem fine and capable of not raping and killing my neighbours wife or my parents WITHOUT having ever read the 10 commandments or the rest of the bible...

I believe in the GOOD of 'the good book'. But religion has become a sport for the fanatics. 'THE MORE PEOPLE WE CAN CONVINCE THE BETTER!' ...

Shut the fuck up... If you love your stupid religion so much, buy the kid a bible and leave him alone. It's so arrogant and cynical to believe that GOD is above everyone... Your god may be above you, but NOT above me. I believe in what I want... And the chances are that my beleifs are very much like yours. Like freedom of speach, human rights and monogamy.

Oohhhh, religious half-fanatics like you, and crazy people like the one in that letter, make me soo angry .... uh oh... happy thoughts, happy thoughts

___________

f*ck Bush

really... if you want to beleive in something... believe in the good of yourself. Stop relying on some book or priest... Be independent

___________

f*ck Bush

Moral systems do not depend on religion, BigJ... be causreful what you claim there. Society could function without religion... it just wouldn't have developed this way without it.

Alright, whatever, but back to the original claim that religion is the source of all evil and the reason behind all wars. Really, consider what you said before you start on smaller arguments. I was just stating that you were full of shit by calling religion the root of all evil. That is the largest bullshit claim I have heard in a while. Where do you come up with this shit, really?

As for the issue of morality, I might have misstated something, but what I was driving at is that people tend to figure out what is right and wrong through religion, be it directly or indirectly through the norms of society.

Beliefs can be powerful things. They are inescapable. The trick is to know how work with or around them.

I wouldn't say all religions are bad just the fact that there are so many is the problem. If the whole world were just following on religion it would be better. I am surrounded by Mormons I interact with them on a daily basis. They are in general moral and honest god fearing people. But perhaps they have anamosity towards people in other religions as do most religions in the world. Theres too many people convinced their god is the right one and everyone else must be shown the light. Which tends to piss people off.

We pay our debt sometimes.

The solution is quite simple really. Don't force people to believe in one particular god. Make people make their own choice of religion, and respect them and their choice. THey should modernize religion so that 'You may not cherish other gods than me' is no longer a rule. Man I hate it...

Beliefs can play a bigger role in some lives than others. Everyone has them to some degree or another. It's a double edged sward. They can be dangerous, but they can also do a lot go good as well. Part of begging an intelligent person is trying to put differences aside and find a common ground/goal/whatever. To be constructive with your beliefs rather than destructive. That however can become complicated with the 'gray areas' involved. It's a mixed bag that can be tough at times to decipher.
