Ok guys, I think its about high time that we address how fucked this forum has gotten. Our quickest and easiest solution right now is to take all your suggestions from all time and split this forum into a couple of different ones. Ski Equipment for gear advice, Buy thread, sell thread, trade thread... whatever you guys want.

So throw your suggestions on how this forum should be split up in here, and we'll get to it super soon!

 
Oh mods are going to hate me because we're all going to have to work together to move the current threads around... please don't kill me!

 
my advice is take a look at pbnation.com, i have been a member there for quite some time and thier buy/sell/trade is extremely well designed. Also i think a big issue is feedback, i dont think karma or post count is enough. I think a designated forum to only feedback, where each seller creates thier own feedback thread and then link it in their sale thread or sig. would be helpful. So as a buyer you can easily see the feedback rather than scouring the good seller thread.

but really take a look at pbnation.com they have implemented all of the ideas that i have introduced and it makes for a much easier, safer selling and buying experience.

I think you could keep it simple and split it into two: A gear discussion forum and a gear buy/sell/trade forum and it would clear things up lot.
 
yeah it really would and then something to keep newbsfrom asking questions for the 10540864306 time... like a sticky calles "attention all who are new to NS" then explain the searchbar, and when they go to make a "which ski thread is best for me?" thread, to list weight, height, what they ski (divided into %s), etc...
 
I think that what you said would be cool. Make a thread thats just for advice on equip, then one just for selling etc... That would make it really easy.
 
the only thing is that there tend to be a lot of FS/T threads so where would those be put?

i would definitley go one ski equip advice thread and one buy/sell/trade thread
 
There just needs to be a simple tech section, and a simple classifieds section.

I've felt this way for a long time, and am glad it's finally going to happen.
 
gear swap and tech talk, just change the names up.

also the feedback issue really needs to be address. the karma system is not sufficient to determine a good seller from a bad one. i like the idea someone said of each person having their own thread or something where everyone could post a quick comment about a successful transaction or getting ripped off. something similar to the ebay system would be amazing.

i think its important to keep these separated, as it will allow sellers and buyers to quickly find what they are looking for.
 
i dont think that there should be a trade section separate from a buy or sell section because people could want to buy and trade or sell and trade
 
You could do a Tech Talk forum, but then have a separate Classifieds feature on the site. The car forum I belong to (DSMTuners.com) does this and it works great. You need to be a "Proven Member" to post in the classified, which mods raise you to when they see you making knowledgeable posts. This feature may not work for this site, but it's just a side idea.

Then the classifieds section is set up to post ads. It can't be bumped, but searched. And people PM or email the seller about the items. There they have different sections for the different year models and stuff, so we could have subsections that are only for Skis, Bindings, Outerwear, Boots, Goggles, etc. Then kids looking for just skis or something can scroll through all the skis for sale on here. It may not be as easy for kids to post "Crap load of random shit" sales, but it would be easier for people to find the products they are looking for, ultimately helping sales.
 
all that needs to be done is leave the ski equipment forum for talk about ski equipment, but just add a new forum, like a market place, for buying, selling, and trading gear.
 
the designers could just go way out there and almost set up an like mini-ebay here where you could browse, search, buy, and what not. set it up like an auction thing. it would be sweet if they did but probably wouldn't happen
 
yes.

and to he who suggested the subcategories such as skis/bindings/outerwear etc, that's a good idea, but what about people like me who don't NEED anything, but if i see something good, i'd be really interested? for example, i have enough bindings to accomadate all of my skis, but if i were to come across a nice pair of fks, i'd get 'em. whereas, because i don't need it, i'm not going to go the "bindings" forum every day to look for some fks i don't need. you know? same goes for outerwear, goggles, pretty much everything.

for a feedback style thingy that i really like, look at the NSMB forums, there feedback is a reputation box with either negative of positive feedback starting u out at zero, it works really well and its done right under the person name and avatar, also u can add or take away rep power from that thread without having to go to their profile like here, just check it out and you'll see what i mean, its way better

and it would be dope to have that feedback forum where everyone can make a thread just for their name, this way you could easily find the buyer/seller you were planning on doing buisness with, instead of wasting tons of time looking through the thread we already have
 
yeah im thinking one for advice and one for classifieds. after you make the two seperate forums for this one you hsould keep this forum for like another couple months and make it so no one can start a new thread in here so they all filter over to the new forums and then all the ones in this forum will just be deleted. except for a few really important ones like good buyer seller list and crowbar trading parts and some other ones.
 
yea a tech forum and B/S/T forum is all ya need. it'd almost be like ns classifieds... except people would actually use it!
 
One buying thread, One Selling Thread, One Trading Thread, One Gear Advise Thread and each account has its own page with good/bad seller feedback on it...
 
As everyone else has said, like TGR, have "Tech Talk" and "Gear Swap" or whatever creative names you choose. Please don't split this up into more than two forums or make it more complicated with a classifieds section where gear is listed and all that. I agree it wouldn't work out with more than 2 forums, it would be a hassle to look at all the forums and all the threads in those forums. Sounds like it would turn a lot of people off from buying or selling easily and make this far more complicated than it needs to be.

word there aren't enough wtb to warrant its own category and there's too many fs/ft. just keep it simple.
