Defense: the rest of NATO would get rolled up by Putin if he decided to annex Poland or Latvia, followed by the rest. US Military power is the only reason NATO means anything. Same for PAC states. Defence: australia is not in nato, it doesnt get bullied by china because we have strong trading history. in the next 2 or 3 years australia will be much closer with china in terms of trade than with US.

Health care: youre right, a lot of development is done in the US because you get absolutely ripped in the ass by healthcare fees. whats the going price for a saline iv bag? i saw some numbers recently, i think it was around $6-700? and it costs $1.05 to make. $700 for a bag of salt water. keep thinking your system is good and that youre so far ahead of the world..

we get free healthcare, including surgeries. sure we pay for it in a taxes, i think its about 2.5% of our tax. but youre going to pay that money in tax anyway. so its nothing. i simply cannot understand how free healthcare doesnt seem like a good thing to americans.

also another thing i dont understand that is ridiculous, why on earth do you not include taxes in your prices? dont give me the 'each state has different taxes bullshit'.

The only reason developments happen is to create profit. Our government does basically nill in research and develop medicine and healthcare technology. (supposedly)

The companies are seeking to get a normal, fair return on their investment in developing the healthcare, so they go, "Hey world, how would you like to pay this price for all this life saving tech we just made???!??

World replies, "Yes we'd like it, but we have government funded healthcare and can't afford the prices that would actually give you a decent profit and incentive to develop new tech, but you should sell it to us cheap anyways or all our people will be sick."

Company than says, "Well shit, if thats the only option, deal.No profits from anyone. We need to make enough money to keep making this shit, where can we make up our losses? Oh thats right, America! We can charge the insurance industry and in turn the patients to keep funding our research and development for the whole world"

He is saying if we adopted a government run healthcare system, we too would fall into the group that can't pay a profitable price for medicine, stalling development for the entire world.

But wouldn't that lead to a drastic increase in taxes? The gov. won't just magically have the money to make up the difference, they have to get that from their citizens.

I'm with you though, privitized healthcare is a fucking scam and imo wrong on a fundamental level. All citizens of the U.S. DESERVE equal access to healthcare without regard to preexisting conditions.

I'd also like to see our higher education system completely restructured. The student loan bubble is going to be the next to burst and could be far worse than the housing one that lead us to the '08 depression. Does it? I'm pretty sure that healthcare progresses naturally, and if anything, is stifled by for-profit systems.

It doesn't make sense for a for-profit system to even try to develop better drugs than what's already available or more financially efficient techniques... and additionally, it doesn't even benefit the consumer a lot of the time, especially when drugs are marketed in such corrupt ways (just look into the way prescription drug sales reps do their jobs... it's fucked up!)

I mean, fuck, just look at all the money that drug companies put towards keeping marijuana illegal as a drug for so long... The last thing they want is a natural thing that people can grow at home that keeps them from buying their addictive prescription shit with crap side effects...

...also, this isn't an American problem - this is a global problem I'm talking about.
