For everyone in CT, or in New England that has heard about this.

I felt like it was too important to post in regionals.

So basically if you don't want to read all this, a kid was suspended and not allowed ( of this moment )to attend his senior prom becuase he asked out a girl by posting letters on his school wall.

Shelton, Conn. (WTNH) - Despite worldwide outcry and publicity, Shelton High School Headmaster Dr. Beth Smith will not allow James Tate to attend the prom.

Dr. Smith did not answer any questions when she made a statement Thursday afternoon following days of intense controversy over the punishment she handed out.

Dr. Smith said there has been a practice for many years in Shelton that students receiving an in-school or out of school suspension after April 1st "for any reason will not be allowed to attend the prom." Tate was given an in-school suspension after he attached cardboard letters to the exterior wall of Shelton High to ask his friend Sonali Rodriques to the prom.

Dr. Smith said there are messages posted in school and announcements made daily about the policy. Phone messages and letters are also sent to the home.

"These communications are intended to remind our students and parents of the high school expectations and consequences," Dr. Smith said. "This unfortunate situation is a result of one of those consequences."

Students who spoke to News 8's Jamie Muro said the policy was clear, and confirm there are flyers posted around school about the prom punishment policy. The students said they believe Tate should have received some other form of punishment rather than in-school suspension.

There was talk among some students of holding a rally or sit-in Friday morning. There's also talk, unconfirmed by News 8, of an alternate prom being held outside of Shelton.

A short time after Dr. Smith made her announcement, Tate's parents spoke to the media. They said they are proud of the way their son has handled himself during the ordeal and intense exposure he's received over the past few days.

Well thought out insults. very creative.

unforunately it doesnt sound like that bitch of a principal will change her mind, the best case scenario is probably the alternative prom

yo thats some major bs i mean first off the kid asked the chick in a pretty cool way and its not like he did any damage to the school?? how the f did he get an iss? ++vibes man hopefully he can go to his prom some how that principal is weiner

Honestly that Dr. Smith or whatever principal/dean etc is really reeeaally being unfair, if it was spray painted on or done in some other permanent way it might make a bit more sense but they were cardboard letters...and it was pretty ballsy/creative and prob raised school spirit/got people stoked on prom to see prom related stuff goin on. They should really rethink that punishment, and not suspend the kid from attending his only prom (assuming he hasn't been to one before for some reason).

get the penis out of your asshole. and clearly dr.smith is on a power trip and this rueling should be overturned.

yea i heard about this today...fucking bitch...shes just mad because she never got asked to prom..

at first i thought it was spray paint so i was thinking "oh ok well this kinda makes sense,"

but cardboard????

why would that even constitute an in school suspension? its not like he drilled holes in the brick or altered any signs...... totally removable. He obviously was trying to avoid getting hit with some vandalism excuse cause it would have been sooo much easier to use paint.

the fucking irony.....

Her grounds for suspending him were that he was trespassing... such fucking bullshit. I want to know what time he was "trespassing" because it could be something totally rediculous like 7am... but most likely it was the night before

lol she's a genius. there is no way in hell she won't let the kid go to prom, she's using the event to scare other kids not to do some dumb shit before prom, then she'll anounce tate can go to prom a few days before prom. smart management

they should have their own prom. every one refund the tickets, rent a sick crib. and there would be no gayass teacher supervision

/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.pngThis tate? He looks a little old to go to prom, don't you think?
