Lets build a spaceship, a really big spaceship.

wanna go to the moon in 3 days? how about mars in 90?

This engineer has spec'd out everything that we will need in order to build a functioning star ship enterprise (minus light speed capabilities) within the next 20 years. He even estimates the cost will be no more than 1 trillion dollars over that 20 years.

Check it out, some of the tech stuff is interesting and its a pretty good read.

inb4 nerd.

I think he would have to figure out facilities to build first and that would honestly be the bigger problem

TWA = winning. Well done.

As I type this, the site is stilllllll loooooooaaaddingggggg. It's gonna be a long trip to the interwebz, comrades.

the site wasn't slow when i saw this posted on io9. my guess is that the server simply can't handle the amount of traffic it's been getting.

also, it's not as though this site is the fastest thing on the net either. i'm pretty sure NS worked better in 2005 than it does now.

My mom lost her ass in an accident 3 years ago. She poops out of her left thigh. Thanks for reminding me asshole.

I've been looking at the site a lot, my biggest problem right now is how will it fly?

Like I get that it will be assembled in space, but how do they plan on doing all that in space?

Then assuming it gets assembled properly, how will it fly around, control, going to other places, etc?

If you donate 1 million dollars you will get like a vip fuck room and first dibs at mars hookers

If you donate $25 you get to watch the ship take off via a live satellite feed

If you donate $100 you get a tshirt

If you donate $5 million you get to steer the ship for 1 minute with a video of your experience

space flight is just a little be more complicated then turning on your engines....

This thing will weight a metric fuck ton. Moving a metric fuck ton around in space is not as easy as turning on your engines. The primary forces acting on a space craft are gravity, you move in orbit. So if you change your velocity, you will also change your orbit trajectory.

That is a really really big thing to move around in space, and will require a lot of fuel... not to mention getting all that up to space...

exactly....

it's not just, oh we have an engine so we will move

This thing is going to be taller than any building, imagine an aircraft the size of the empire state building, how do you control it?

There's no way to train people properly because there is nothing to compare to this

I want to agree but who would actually spend this much time making such detailed designed if he/she did not know it would be able to fly?
