lesser known ski companies: libery, faction, surface

how are these companies? at every turn i see new companies that are either just starting, or starting to grow finally. among them are libery, faction, and surface.

we've all heard about the newest co.s in our industry that just started last year: armada, 4-frnt, and these are doing very well, how do these other start-up comapanies measure up to those?

i want to know if there is any real advantage to these companies, and if they look promising in the present or the future. and if anybody's ridden them yet. are there any more companies like this?

sales wise i dont know, but everyone wants in on the ski market

-let people do what they want, ski how you want, make whoever you want your role model its your choice

-i love to ski, so should you, its fun, try it sometime

^ just got my stls today, they are sick, not to mention i wouldnt buy a ski from a company that just started, until i got some infor on how good the ski actually performs

theres a large gap between someone WANTING the newest ski from the new companies, and actually BUYING them...i have no idea how the sales figures of these new guys are, but their still going strong, so it must be working out for them, and i for one am glad it is

this is my personal opinion on this: i feel that many people are getting fed up with the whole huge corporate feeling that was surrounding skiing. also these companies may feel that the big companies arnt easy to deal with when trying to advance out aspect of the sport. although i personally wouldnt know, im sure that that is true. as for what you get when you buy from these ski companies, depending on the company you are probably getting a quality product, and to quote the jibij ad slogan 'support the store that supports you' but in this case, support the company.

what i found annoying is that the surface site doesnt even give you the dimensions of their skis.

but really, everyone knows that armada and 4frnt will be sick because they have the funding and the rep of big name pros

ninthward, liberty, faction and surface, might have really good riders, but the fact remains they dont have a tanner or steele on their team/staff so they dont get the coverage. and they might have really good skis, especially since they're marketing to the jib market.

i would love to get some of these skis, but unless they get some coverage and reviews, we're not gonna risk wasting our money on these skis.

but in some cases people want to cash on the market espically freeskiing, and making a company, armada who makes a decent ski doesnt even make their ski, they just design and have them sent im...plus armada made it more expensive for shops to buy and less expensive for the consumer

by the way, whats the jibij site?

all these new companies sound sick, but before i buy something i need a review or a demo at least the idea of blind faith in a product doesnt work for me when im spending 500 dollars, hopefully all the skis turn out sick and they will be carried all around

i wouldnt buy skis from any new ski label.. it takes a while to develop good constructions etc.. just look at scott they are doing just as good skis as any other established ski company now but for 5 years ago theyre skis where not good at all.

scott skis? ive only ever seen those in ads in magazines.

but, i think because of the technology and demands we've created for how our skis need to perform and last, i dont think there are many new ski companies dumb enough to release a crappy ski. only established labels have the guts to do that anymore (ie- salomon). just look at last years crop of new companies. their first year they created some of the best skis on the market (armada 4frnt) and it only took em a year. i think its because they knew if they created a crappy product first year, they would be labeled for the next 5 years like line was, even if they did get better. i think the companies see that and wont offer a crappy product.

but, even with that confidence i would still like to know if anyone has gotten to try these. i wanna know if theyre stiff, bomb proof, the edges will stay after railslides, and if they can ride good for hardcore skiers

i believe faction is going to be in the buyers guide of freeskier for north america and fall-line and dark summer mags in the UK so u can look to those for your reviews on faction.

i think the more companies the better, gives u more selection, but i personally dont really care for liberty and i barely no what ninthward or faction are. i think those small companies should do more advertising and go to a lot of mountains giving demos, that would definatly get more poeple to ride them.

i can only give you the scoop on ninthward. its a small company planning on staying small. the skis ski like a snowboard, better with speed and washy on tight 3 foot turns. i would sugjest trying a pair.

we at NINTHWARD feel that pushing younger riders into the spotlight will push our genre, we want our crew to become the next PEP and are behind them 100%, our skis were tested by the team all year in all conditions, and we have built and designed from their feedback, we have a select dealer list and it will be listed on our new web site which will be launched in two weeks, also you can buy the skis onloine now too, all in stock etc,,,

Ive never seen a ski that was completely white, thats why I like the looks of the surface skis.

The dimensions for Surface are on the website. Its kinda retarded, but you have to click the buy icon, and then it takes you to the screen that has the dimensions and stuff. I konw Mike is doing really well right now. He pressed a dozen sets of skis the other week, and when I went in there he only had 3 pair left.

Check Out Surface Skis!
