Awful to see. It looks like a ton of hard work went into that shack. Its funny that i skied copper for four days and i STILL heard of the legend of Leo's shack over at Breck. It is way easier for resorts to rip smokers because of 1. the federal ownership of forest property and 2. (and most importantly) Alcohol = $$$$$ for almost all resorts. resort company investors/directors expect returns and booze presents profits. As such, alcohol will be shown as innocent until the rest of the world can come to grips with natures magic plant.

Once you aren't 14 years old you don't get so burnt that you can't ski or snowboard. It's not like getting drunk where you can get to a point where you're just fucked.

I don't smoke anymore, I won't ever again, but the state of things is just stupid. It's 2014. The drug war needs to end and the hysteria surrounding marijuana as well.

There will always be idiots on the mountain whether they're stoned, drunk or sober. I just hate how much time has to be spent on an issue that IMO is so fucking simple and clear cut. Especially with the massive issues we all face in the world today, if we can't get it right on the small stuff we're fucked.

Oh by the way, I have a degree in electrical engineering, but I don't do it because I don't want to anymore, and I can make more doing what I do now, which is something fun. Wanna judge me for that?
 
you literally are exactly what i was holding up as a positive example.

If someone is a ski bum, they obviously didnt pay for your college, because there is no way to pay of that debt on a bums salary. therefore, someone helped with the money. Sure there may be the rare exception, but you are smart enough to know that exception is rare.

And you are a huge benefit to society, even if you went to school on someone elses dime. If you wnt on your own, even better. You are giving back to society more than what society put into you. thats awesome!

All i ever said, is this. If you want to do your own thing and be beholden to no one dont take the money. Dont take charity unless you absolutely need it. Pay back that charity as soon as you can. And show a return if people invested in you. pretty simple, no?

 
Didn't Transworld Snowboarding or something do a little article about it years ago? I had a group of gaper friends from Oklahoma visit me and they immediately asked me about "the smoke shack they'd seen in XXXX magazine". That was in 2007.

It's not like there are signs telling you how to get there, but Leo's was hardly covert.
 
Is welfare and other government programs charity? I know a lot of people who are on unemployment, welfare, food stamp, etc. that dont absolutely need it. I admit they are taking advantage of the system. But what it really comes down to is the idiot running our country that has passed laws and such that allow people to get these types of programs. Its our politicians that have created helped to create this problem.

As well, I have lived in Breck for awhile, granted im not your true ski "bum": I still get close to a hundred days in each year though, but i make plenty enough to pay back student loans, car loans, rent, and everything else i need. I work about 65 hours a week between two jobs but still have two full days off to ski and plenty of days where i can ski before work. Just cause your living in a mountain town and ski most days of the week doesnt mean you're a worthless ski bum who doesnt contribute to society. Currently, im not using my degree but I will sacrifice certain things to live in a better place. I could use my degree and work in some shitty city or i could not use it, still make money, and live somewhere I love to be.

As for the politicians creating the problem, i kinda agree. im much more a proponent of the individual doing whats right regardless if that makes their life a bit more difficult. It sucks that more people dont think that way.

In Washington, from what I've seen, there's hidden igloos all over the resorts where people will drink and smoke. I've only done it in them twice though, don't see the point in smoking in them when you can smoke anywhere fucking else without getting into any trouble.

if yall love smoking indoors so bad, make some igloos, takes way less effort than building a shack designated for smoking.

honestly that shack would be a lot more useful as a free place to sleep on the resort. All you need is a camp fire, a babe, and a big ol' sleeping bag.Has anyone on ns ever camped out in there before?
 
I doubt it. There is no way that ski patrol didn't know about the shack, im sure they checked it at their end of the day sweep every day.
 
They did not sweep Leo's. When my friends lived in Breck we hid out there a couple times until after the lifts closed to avoid the end of the day clusterfuck.
 
suuuuucks. makes me worried for the rest of the shacks across the country. and caligrown seems upset that everyone didnt do everything the same way he did. "have fun, do what makes you happy..." (unless its different from what i did, because that makes you a "parasite") you might want to check that word out, as peope with "shitty" jobs in fact, have JOBS and pay taxes. jackass.

Potheads continuously continue to blow my mind day in and day out. Im going to lay this out there now. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS with people who smoke weed, and I have smoked a lot in my past, but not relaly anymore for personal reasons.

GET OVER IT. Its a crappy shack in the woods where people just smoke weed. Its bad for the resort from a money making standpoint. Families don't want t oassociate with stoners regardless of whether its legal or not. Still a very touchy subject in America. Smoke on the lifts, smoke in the woods, smoke in your car, where ever the fuck you want. Its not like its stopping you from smoking.
 
what if that was your house, or summer project, or sentimental anything? I know the places i blazed with my friends are special to me for a lot more than just smoking.

But what do i know im in idaho, any old shacks i find on the mountains are usually really old cabins that were used a hundred years ago so i feel like it would be greatly disrespectful to disrupt the shacks in anyway

Possibly, but very doubtful. Regardless, i was speaking in generalities(i said as much in an earlier post- this goes back to your lack of reading ability) and the above example would be a very rare exception.
