Leo's shack destroyed

Leo's has been there for 20 years and Breck acts like they never saw it till Insider went there,what a load of bull. Guess I cross off smoking one in Leo's as something i wanted to do. Truly a sad day.
 
Republicans are generally more against week than democrats, so I'm not sure why you feel the need to bring that in here.... it doesn't really work.
 
Smokers were the least of my problems when i was living in breck. Do you have any idea how many real drug addicts/lowlifes were in breck? Seriously, I run into multiple people at every bar i went too asking me for a "freshie" (which I later learned means a never before used syringe, or looking to fight over one of the 8 girls in a bar. I loved it there, I made some great friends and met a lot of cool people, but I don't know if I would ever want to permanently move there, it can get sketchy. I'm not saying it has anything to do with weed because it doesn't, but yeah those looked like the typical 30ish year old who works a dead end job lives in breck to skis everyday and isn't doing much with there life.
 
They're doing what they love EVERY FUCKING DAY. Who are you to judge you fucking asshole? I have a civil engineering degree and I work a "dead end job" at Big Sky, and you know what? I love every day of it. Wouldn't have it any other way. So fuck off, your arrogance isn't needed here.
 
Fuck inside edition, everyone who participated in that interveiw, and especially the motherfucker that showed those douchebags where leos was. Such a shame to see how quick it was destroyed after it was publicized. Keep local spots local dammit
 
If you paid for for 4 years at a college, and your 30+ years old with no life plan working at a gas station. Then yes even if your skiing everyday drinking and partying EVERY DAY, then yes I'm going to judge.
 
Holy shit there are some pretty fucking organized and determined people out there destroying these huts. ive found a few fb posts already rallying up people to burn the rest of them down..

This shits getting real. just shows what lengths suburban moms and ripper dads will go to just to fuck with anyone on the mountian.

For anyone without a facebook heres the message that breck is spamming to anyone posting about leos,

The ski resort's land is on US Forest Service Federal property, and structures of that shack type are not permitted under any circumstance.

We have worked closely with the Forest Service over the years to eliminate these as we have become aware of them. It is against the law for anyone to build these structures in the national forest. Further, it is illegal to use timber products harvested in the forest or to create disturbance in the forest by building these shacks.

Additionally the consumption of alcohol on resort and USFS property is legal, whereas marijuana consumption is not. We encourage anyone who has issues with this to contact the Breckenridge Police Dept. for more clarification.

 
You're one of the people that just don't get it. Would you rather waste your life on stupid shit like get an office job and have kids or have fun every day? You have one life to live, so don't waste it

Your missing my point, you can live in breckenridge with 0 education and work at a resonant for the rest of your life. I have no problem with you doing it, I'm not your dad so im not going to lecture you. Do whatever you want it doesn't effect me, my point is there are a lot of drug addicts/shitty people who live there, and a lot of either older people (and i'll put this nicely) who never really went anywhere with there lives, and they are down on there luck, or 18 year olds who are out living on there own for the first time, and think they can do whatever they want. IE: screw someone out of last month rent, steal money, I had one kid take my friends car crash it then left town never paid him. my point was just breckenridge has a lot of shitty people living there, I would want to raise my kid there even though i had a lot of fun there, That was my point. There are still great amazing nice successful people that live in breck, but give me a camra and it wouldn't take me long to find guys like that at the end of the video.
 
That's great and all, but you're shitty attitude has nothing to do with the fact that Inside Edition is responsible for a memorial hut built to honor a daughter's passing was just destroyed because of poor journalism.

I completely agree that you should live your life to the fullest and have fun, but your definition of "waste" is pretty fucking stupid. There are more important things in the life than just having fun, the older you get the more you will realize that.
 
I'm not 30, I'm 21. Yes, I went to college and am not using my degree right now, so what? I enjoy every day of my life, as do most of the ski bums I work with that have no "life plan." Get off your high horse, your high salary doesn't make you better, or happier, than everyone else.

patrol would know where most, if not all shacks are. and they have obviously known about leo's for a long time. but if something like that report stirs the mainstream media and feds come knocking you have to do something about it, it isnt brecks fault, it is the people who took the reporters there.
 
Leo's was great but he's right ^ There looks like a lot of nice ones, just not two story ones. If you guys really wanted to you should just add a second level to CJ's
 
Fucking lame. I remember putting a whole season of slow midweek days into building a shack. Was only big enough for 6 people but I put a ton of hours into making it perfect. I'd be pissed if I had come in and found it burned. And that thing right there looks like the fucking taj mahal.

Seems like the same kind of ignorance keeping the world stuck in the past. The same kind of ignorance fueling the drug war. Stupid people need to stop breeding. Get rid of all these over the top nanny stay laws and let mother nature rid her planet of these ass clowns.

 
Very interesting thread. It's a shame Insider Edition did discover Leos which may be the reason it eventually got destroyed. I am surprised few have has mentioned the CORE REASON inside edition did such a report in the first place. Is skiing while under the influence, whether it be alcohol or weed, or something else safe? The major response from most NSers would be it's ok, but as long as you can stay in control. Well I guess that debate now is whether you can prove to people you're in control while while under the influence. Clearly those snowboarders weren't in control. I don't know I don't have much of an opinion either way on this issue, I don't smoke anymore, but it's an issue that will rage on for many years as marijuana becomes less criminalized./thread
 
I understand that vail resorts is trying to promote a "family-friendly resort", but instead of blowing up the locals' smoke shack, how bout work on all the drunk people hitting the slopes after being at the bars at peak 8,9, and 10...
 
I might be going out on a limb here, but I think we are missing the main point of the Leo's event.

The law is the law, especially on federal standards. Everyone who smokes on the mountain is subject to felony charges if they got caught. It sucks, but complaining about the laws set in place (for many years) won't convince anyone to make a change. The people who built these shacks certainly knew what they were doing and wanted to help spread the love and give people a safe haven for taking a break from skiing.

So yeah, Leo's is closed and now we know that it will not be the same for shacks everywhere, but at least we remember what it was all about. Someone will come and build something twice as epic. Insider Edition may have screwed the shack scene for a bit, but those guys on the video, for all we know, could have easily been coerced by IE or lied to about their purpose. Pointing the blame is useless though, because it happened and now we cannot do anything about it.

Also in reply to comments about how these "bums" who work dead end jobs and wasted their lives, fuck you. Half of the purpose of a college education is to learn how to think critically, and saying they wasted their education is absurd. I know kids who are about to spend years working 12+ hour days and will be miserable. But is it really worth spending your youth working just to make bank? That is your choice and do not shit on others because they chose to do something different than what you think is a good choice. It is what it is, and don't be so arrogant as to think that your opinion matters more than anyone else's.
 
Sounds like you were one of those 18 year old kids who was living on their own for the first time. So you moved here for a couple of seasons and somehow think you know what it's like to live in Breck and raise a family here? I'm guessing it's more like you thought you were a local during your short stay, had shitty friends that you hardly new, and they ripped you off. There are shitty people living everywhere, welcome to the real world.
 
To all of you ripping on people drinking on the hill. Get over that, I like a few beers on the hill and I'm sure most of you do too. You're essentially saying, well if we can't smoke pot here then no one can drink. Let's not attempt to make the hill completely legally squared.

If you want to direct you anger it should be directed at: 1. the dumb asses who post shack locations on the web. (Google colorado smoke shack and you can see a google map of all Breck's huts). 2. Inside Edition for running that shotty piece. 3. Those stupid ass snowboarders who looked like they were being paid to snowboard excessively shitty.

But don't stress, this is not the first time the forest service has destroyed a bunch of shacks and it will not be the last. I remember when they smashed them all in 2005 at Breck due to excessive trash in the huts and a new Park Director from Steamboat. The huts will always come back. For some people it's a great summer time project.

My favorite breck hut: I remember the tree hut up on peak 9 with professional siding, windows, insulation, the works. Some girl broken her leg climbing down and they tore that down. That was amazing though. About 20-30 feet up and you would never notice it. Also just such great craftsmanship.

I also miss the near Freeway, it was just so freaking convenient.

You took society's money to go to college, and have now copped a narcisisttic view towards society. Me first. Fuck everyone else. what do you do that is a net positive for this country, or the people around you? And "being a good friend and washing dishes" is a shitty answer.

There is such a thing as "compromise". who says that if you work a corporate job, you cant ski all the time? I work 4 hours away from tahoe in a classic "career" job, help the economy grow through my work, pay off my student debt, ski 30 days per year and can take off any damn day i want as long as i give a few days notice. Imagine if i lived relativly close to a mountain how many days i could ski.

You are voluntarily choosing a path of poverty that the government will help pay for in terms of healthcare, subsidies, and tax breaks. those are meant for people who have no other option thatn poverty and no way to get out. you are just a parasite looking for fun.
 
I don't think he was implying he is "better" than you. All he said was; in breck, there were a lot of 30ish year olds who haven't done much with their life. Which is true. There in a lot of ski towns.

He didn't say they weren't happy, or that they were unsatisifed with life.
 
Hmm I thought I heard something about 100k epic passes sold which would be what 1.5 mil? I feel like they make that over Christmas alone
 
I say we build a new one! Brecks an awful place anyways. I just hope they don't touch any of the other ones but some dumb ass posted gps coordinates for all of the on to there Facebook page.

I can just see a 2 story cave with multiple really well hidden entrances being the new thing.
 
but i know what you were saying. Vail doesnt give 2 shits about the people who actually get their money's worth with season passes. they get their money off people like my 10 or so coworkers who have the Tahoe Local Pass, and will go to tahoe about 5 times this year, and then announce that they got their money's worth(broke even compared to day passes). so the majority of their season passes are essentially 5 day tickets.

Vail doesnt give two shits about locals who shred all the time. Vail could fuck their mothers, and murder their fathers, and as long as the park is the best in the world, those fucking lemmings will still shred everyday.
