Is anyone giving up something for Lent?

I'm thinking of giving up Instagram...or at least mute all stories and clean out a bunch of accounts..I spend way too much time on there.

Got off of insta for personal reasons other than lent a year or so ago and Im very happy I did. It can be a useful tool for marketing if you have a business or keeping up with people you dont see anymore but its mostly a time waster

I totally agree with you there. When i view my usage history IG is right there on top for most time and data spent. Depressing.

No because I don't participate in fruitless religious rituals created by humans. Oh and the whole don't eat meat on Fridays is stupid for so many reasons, none of which are devotion to God.

You atheists can't let people do anything without trying to crap on it can you?

Not an atheist, but 12 years of catholic school and living in a predominantly catholic area really opens your eyes to how fucking bureaucratic and political religion is. I believe in God and such, but following some made up rules established by "infallible" individuals is where I draw the line. Practicing catholics are some of the phoniest people I've ever met. Big churches are some of the scummiest businesses ever; it's a facade.

You do you though. If you wanna give stuff up to be closer to God, by all means. I won't and that's what I was saying in my previous post.

aah, I misunderstood ya, my bad. We probably agree on lot with Catholic/corporate churches. (Joel Osteen can shut up anytime now) Growing up reformed lent was always an optional thing. If you feel the need, give something up leading up to Holy Week in preparation. Haven't really done it before but giving it a go this year.

Yea fuck trying to be a better person by the means of religion. What a shameful and disgusting idea.

Eh sorry about prior post. read your other posts and now i sound like a dick. Organized religion definitely has it's faults so I understand where you're coming from.

deleting instagram is hype. I sporadically would delete the app from my phone now and then but then finally a couple months ago I completely deleted my account. Not saying that deleting your account completely is what everyone should do, but definitely taking a break from it all is amazing. For me, like you, it was the app that i found myself wasting the most time on. best of luck, watch the documentary the social dilemma on netflix too, it'll get you even more stoked to take an instagram break!

I don't think it's available anywhere else because it's a netflix original. Maybe you got a buddy that could lend you their password for a day or two?
