Lens recommendations?

Currently I have a d3100 and a whole heap of older prime lenses, I would ideally use those but its just not practical to carry around 6 or 7 lenses. My goal is to get a good quality midrange zoom lens that will allow my to drop a few of my primes, Id like to spend no more then 500. I am mostly shooting photography however i will be shooting more video this summer and and winter. Here's a list of everything i have currently.
24mm 2.835mm 1.450mm 1.485mm 2.0105mm 2.580-200 mm 4 (old one not much good anymore)18-55 3.5-5.6 kit lens
Can anyone suggest a good lens that would fit nicely? I checked out the tamron stuff and they seemed pretty nice, what else should I look at?
Thanks

if you wanna get rid of some of those primes, let me know (specifically the 35mm and 85mm)

HAHA thanks for all the recommendations guys.... haha. Yea, I have a good idea how much they are worth and Im going to hold on to them sorry, but if i ever want to sell any of them I will sell them to you guys. I really don't deserve these lenses haha, they were recently passed down to me by my uncle. If you are curious to see them I'll put up a pic in a bit.
On the original topic I think I'm getting either the tamron 17-50 or the 28-75. is the vc/is/vr worth the extra cash?

i hope that worked?

The 35m has thorium glass which gives it a yellow cast, how should I correct that on camera, or should I just do it in post? Also for you guys who were interested in the lenses, is that what you expected to see or were you expecting newer stuff?

get the tokina 12-24 f/4

its a dope wide angle

plus why get the 17-50 because you essentially have like 4 primes within that range.

Sell your kit lens, consumers buy them for nearly retail value on craigslist.

Thanks for that link, I have been looking around for info on that lens but I hadn't found that yet, pretty crazy stuff. If I read that correctly, because mine is number 373990 with a minimum aperture of f16 mine was made after 1977. What do you think the lens is worth? Haha almost don't want to use it any more.

3-400 probably, maybe a little more. The newer versions are worth more... I would keep it around, you've already got it you know?

I view old lenses like that as sort of a collection item. They do strange things and perform differently because they have older glass and older tech - no coatings to reduce glare and the sort of unexpected mistakes that can look really cool.

I dream of going through the focal lengths of old nikon glass, trying out every lens for a week and selling it if it's nothing special, keeping the ones that are. That way I know I've got exactly the glass I like the most. That's a cool lens, as are the other ones. keep them around for sure, you'll be disappointed later if you don't.

And if you ever want to sell any of them, let me know haha.

me too man I want to go to yardsales and find some old glass now.

Cole, if you don't mind me asking where did you come across all these old nikon lens'

Yea no problem 207. The FM2, F3 with motor-drive, and one of the 50m 1.4s where my moms, she used to shoot professionally in her 20's and she gave those to me two weeks ago. I asked her if she had any thing else of hers or her Dad's things still hidden, she didn't have anything else but she knew my uncle did so she asked him to bring down what he had, he brought me the n200 and all of the other lenses, it was Christmas in june. My family has even more of my grandfathers ancient stuff in a display case, things like original 16mm movie cameras, ivory powder horns, and things of that sort. I can get a picture of that too, its pretty wild.
