Lens brand compatibility

I have a nikon d3000 and I am in the market for a new lens but I am a poor college student so I need to bargain hunt and that is not so easy when I do not know what kinds of brands will be compatible with my nikon body. Can anyone help me?

Using a older, manual primes, i.e. the Pentax Takumar 50mm F/1.4 with an Nikon/Canon adapter seems to be a popular choice, and you can pick up some of those lenses for 50-60 dollars and an adapter is about twenty. I would normally find you links, but I'm on a really shitty connection, so just use google and Ebay and you'll be good. Other than that, I know Nikon has a couple decent cheaper lenses. That's about all I have to say.

If you're ok with a lens that won't auto focus get an old prime. $50 will get you an old lens and adaptor that will take great pictures.

not many lenses adapt to nikon. basically only old nikon lenses would work. i dont know much about nikons but i dont think youre gonna be able to come up with many lenses that will adapt

Do you know what sort of lens you are looking for? That's relevant information that is important to include

I only have one zoom lens 18-55mm and I am looking to get one with more zoom or a different kind of lens so I can have more variety. I am not completely sure what I want yet

nope, the flange to focal plane distance is really long so you need optical adapters to make lenses work. Leica R lenses are the only common lens type that works. I might be wrong but I'm almost positive Im not
