Length of Lease in Whis.

Alright...I'm leaving in Jan for the winter in Whis..everyplace is going for a 12 month lease - what is the play on this (i.e. what does everybody do).

Do these landlords seriously expect a 12 month commitment? The ones I have talked to don't want to hear that I'm leaving in April - I guess they'd rather hear I'm staying a year, and then let me break lease, and lose a months rent in April?

Is that my best option - break lease, and if so, is that the deal, that I lose my last months rent or do these places charge security, etc.. also ?

these places are still up for rent because they have the one year lease. All the seasonal places are gone by mid-october. And yes, they do expect you to stay for a year. And yes they will make you sign a lease agreement. And yes they will make you pay for a years worth of rent if you break the lease agreement.

thats why you move your ass up in July, when you get the best selection...then you line yourself up for a good summer restaurant or construction job so that you can ski days and work nights in the winter...once your here for a season, you'll never leave...

work to live...not live to work.

work to ski...but only if you ski to work. The simple equation to skibumming 101

Yep, that's the deal :/

Most landlords are liek that. The seasonal places are few and far between and go straight away.

Most landlors are chill about you getting someone in there there if you leave - so long as the rent gets paid.

And be very carefull about putting your name on a lease agreement. If one of you friends will be there for the whole year. Get them to take the lease in their name. You don't all have to be on it.

Any way to get a place for the summer only? say, april to august? I know staff rez is open to the public during the summer, but when does that start?

Whistler Sucks.

summer is easy to get a place, all of the nightly rental condos turn into monthly rental for next to nothing, we had a sick place in the upper village for nothing all summer. That starts around May/June. Oh, btw, you can break leases, I think you have to pay 2 months rent, speak to the Whistler Housing Authority who i've never actually managed to find a use for, they might be able to give you some more info.

You can stay in staff housing at base 2 until like a week or two ago and then ya get the boot if you're not working for the mountain.
