Hey guys, so u was skiing down a cat walk today, and there is this little detour around a tree which i thought might have a lip off the end. `the problem is there is a total gaper that is walking down the cat walk, and is blocking the entrance to the little lip thing. so im going like 1 mph, i kid u not, cuz this is a cat walk were u have to skate to even go anywhere. so i pass her, having to off the train just to do so, and try to avoid her. So there the set up f what happened. then i hear a ski patrol start yelling at me, telling me to pull over to the side. he starts to get really mad at me, and says "what were you thinking?!?!?!? you could have hit her!" so i try to explain when someone is WALKING in a cat walk, and i am barely moving, that it is no big if i pass her with like a foot in between. Here comes the ridic part. he the brings up the fact that he has seen me "with my tips up the hill" (meaning switch)and that he does not trust me because of that. he says that "there is no way to stay in control while doing that" and that "i am putting everyone in harms way." this pisses me off because i would bet anyone who has the balls to even go switch would instantly be better at it than like the rest of the mountain at going forward. THEN he adds that he want me to watch an instructional video on how to be safe, calls the base to check if i have been in trouble before, and decides to write me up for using innocent civilians as meat gates (like racing gates, to carve around, when there is no reason why i would have wanted to carve on a cat walk). lastly, he adds that the snowboarder was "super cute," which makes thing worse for me apparently. last;y, he says that if this happens one more time, my season pass will be pulled
throughout this story i did not exaggerate once, i swear! so ya, just needed to share how much ii hate my mountain, and if anyone has a story in response, lets here it!

ya i got caught earlier for poaching but lied that i had never been writen up. the check and said i was innocent, so i was luck about that1

yeah at my mountain, it's so small that the only good stashes are either in the roped off woods or on the closed trails

My 8 year old cousin got in trouble for straight lining a hill that seriously has I kid you not 40 feet of vert. It was just one little trail at my hill but a ski patrol came down the hill faster than my cousin and yelled at him with me right there.

sorry for posting alot, but its exacly how ithappened. he took my id, then read the name one it to top watch throught a walki talking, asking if anything has been reported on me. he said exacly this about the movie: "i would make you watch the video, but its too late in the day for it to worth it." my aunt is like the head si patrol, and so ive seen that vid, and they show it sometimes before lessons and then give you a badge. its gay, but true as hell!

See, that's a fundamental difference between nice people like you, and people like me.
I won't call you a pussy or dumb for even wasting you're time talking to them or allowing yourself to get into that situation, because I know some people are just really polite to any type of authority.
I would of just told them to fuck off and then peaced... it's pretty simple. They can't touch you or make you do anything. The worst that can happen is they call the police, which is rare... i usually keep a change of hat and goggles in my bag so last time that happened to me, I got into some shit with this fat bitch lifty who flipped out on me for not bringing my pass that day, tried to keep me there while she called the state police , i pushed her back and then just peaced into the woods quick, went to my car, switched tees, googles and hat... all is good . i watched them search in vain
you get my point...

word. but as i said, it a cat walk, so there no way i could get speed quickly to outrun them. and they saw my seaon pass, so no luck with saying i hiked up!

sounds like my mountain. even the video part. in the video they show at mine some guy says "this isnt disney land" and everytime i have to start laughing.

but yeah my mountain has some screwed up ski patrolers that just do it too get a free seasons pass. theres definatly some chill ones though some people just want to be dicks i guess

if a noob ski patrolmen tried to take my pass for a stupid reason like that, i would A. Not go down without a fightB. Video tape it for court

my home mountain, blue mountain, sucks hard dick as well, ski patrol are always pulling over people

I used to have alot of trouble with my patrol, then one day I went and had a serious talk with head patroller who i am actually friends with. The best thing to do isnt tell them to fuckoff. They will let you get away with alot usually if you say "sorry it wont happen again." That is when you ski off.

haha today an instructor stops me at the end of the park, and gives me a lecture on how i should, "call my drop", i guess i technically did snake him, but he was leading a line of 5 year olders, sitting on the side of the park, who then proceded to ski through the whole thing hitting every single lip of every rail, with kids falling on most of them,

patrol really should do the right thing, and either stay the fuck out of the park, or at least stay in the progression park, all we need are a bunch of kids skiing through, and fucking standing on landings

its a fucking recipe for disaster

ski patrol in ontario are sometimes like that. the funny thing about it is, they usually suck at skiing - so just ski away from them. I've been thinking about that a bit lately this year, and a couple days ago I was going up the chair and this girl hurt herself about half way down the run, and the patrol was skiing down with the toboggan. well he could have taken the steep groomer and traversed over to the girl but he chose to ski the steep moguls down to the girl and when questioned about it by the guy in the chair behind me he answered "well, sure, but

the face [the groomed run] isn't as fun."

it's so much nicer when the ski patrol actually like and are good at skiing.

shits gay happened to me 2 weeks ago. I was going down a really mellow trail and some lady was going all the way across and back almost hitting a shit load of people she cuts right in front of me and im able to turn descently fast but I clipped the back of her ski and she takes a fall that a 2 yr old would get up from and not even cry.ski patrol stops me and goes "You could have killed that women with the way your skiing boy" my response was "First off she was skiing from side to side taking up the entire trail and your yelling at me, second off I avoided her the fall she took had no effect on her" Patrol tells me he doesnt like my attitude and that I am getting a warning for skiing dangerously and next time he is taking my pass. I hate gay patrol

i havent been stopped by ski patrol in a long time. but if one ever were to come up to me about going too fast or sking switch or anything i would carefully explain to them i am of skill and i would only heed their warnign if they were confident that everyone on the hill at the given moment was worse at skiing than me in the given condition

Where do you ski at bud? I am from W.Texas and hit New Mexico every weekend. I ski Angel Fire and Taos and get bitched at all the time. There tends to be this generalized "fuck you" attitude from the locals. Saturday at Angel Fire, I had a 16ish year old ski instructor blow up at me for "going too fast" at the bottom of the hill. The run was clear and I knew who and what was in my periphery. Instead of asking me to slow down, he proceeded to bow up to me, ask if I was an idiot, if I was too stupid to read, who I was trying to show off for, yadda, yadda, ill jerk your pass. The kid was rude and obnoxious. His little power trip has made me completely turned off to the mountain authority. I will do my thing and if they decide to take my pass, no big, i'll take my business elsewhere.

yeah ive got stopped a few times, for going to fast when theres gapers around

usually i just say yeah, ok, it wont happen again, *ahahaha*

but if they begin to lecture and continue to bitch at me ill bitch back and then just ski away.

hmm thats weird, i really dont think i have ever met a texan that freestyled, or even knew how to ski hahah. so no offense, im sue u could be better than me. i go to angel fire and taos too, and ya i guess those are closer to texas my bad!

thats true. ive never had a problem until last thursday. i got stopped twice on two different trails niether were schoolmarm. First time i got yelled at for skiing through a spot of tree which where i went in was NOT roped off and some lady started screaming and me stop saying that i could hit someone coming out of the woods, but i could see the open empty trail as it was a thursday. Then I got stopped while i was carving granted fast down a trail switch, but i was in control such. First time ive ever had a problem.

sorry for the double post, but that first lady checked my pass and called my name down to someone on her walki. stoopid

Basically, we are the counter-culture on the mountain. Yes, we ski different. Yes, we are going to scream by gapers, who have absolutely no idea how to ski. We have every right to the mountain as they do. The patrols are usually made up of old-school, tight-asses, who don't like the way we look or ski (exceptions exist). They will try to find any reason to screw with you. Even if something is not your fault, you will get pinned...... Fuck em.

If you had a head cam it would make this post easier to answer. Ultimatly dont let it get to you. Remember that there is no substitute for laziness in your communication and skiing. If the patrol/cop is going to write you a ticket, he is going to write you a ticket. If you remain calm you will learn from the situation which will help you in the future. Go ski boyeee.

"this pisses me off because i would bet anyone who has the balls to even go switch would instantly be better at it than like the rest of the mountain at going forward."

um, no.

"slooooooooowwwwww iiiiiittttttt dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn"

is what i get all the time

are you serious?

you say she was making really wide turns, so you obviously knew what she was doing and where she was going. But you still fucking hit her.. then bitch about it because she was taking up too much of the run. If your so good and deserve a medal of honor for avoiding her, then why couldnt you just ski around? What were you expecting, she was clearly a noob struggling on a "really mellow trail" (which is where she should be.) and you managed to hit her skis from behind. Yeah you sound like an ignorant little kid who deserves his pass taken just for being that retarded.

Go read the responsibility code then get back to me with why this was her fault again.

StartFragmentSomething similar happened to me, I was skiing the chairline at my mountain on a pow day and was charging the line I wanted to ski. Inoticed a mountain safety (wana be ski patroller) adjusting a tower pad belowme as I jumped over a group of small trees. Then as the trail starts to narrowinto the single track run out through the flat section a ski patroller comesout from behind a group of trees heading for the tower, doesn’t look up hill tosee if anyone is coming. At this point I was hauling ass and couldn’t turnright or I would hit the trees that he just came out of, I couldn’t turn leftor I would hit the lift tower, and if I tried to stop I would have hit him. SoI yelled watch out and pointed it right in front of him missing a collision byabout three feet. When I got to the end of the flats I stopped to wait for mybrother who was behind me and looked up to see the ski patroller coming downtoward me. The guy starts yelling at me wanting to pull my pass, saying that Iwas “…going to fast and that if I would have hit him I would have hurt him andhe has a family to support…” blah blah blah, being a complete ass hole because Iscared the shit out of him. He was the one in the wrong by not looking up hillwhen he crossed the run but he was on a power trip. I just kept saying sorrybecause I didn’t want to get my pass pulled and he let me off with a warning andcalled the base to have them put my name and pass number in the warning log, I havebeen skiing at that resort for 19 years and have never gotten in trouble and I almostgot my pass pulled for skiing to fast on one of the hardest runs on the mountain, bull shit, and now if I get caught doing ANYTHING wrong again I loose my pass.Again, bull shit.EndFragment

no they're not. they wanted to pull my pass for two weeks because i ollied a fence with no one around. no warning, no nothing. just two weeks. ridicolous. i had to sit through a class to get it back. they weren't dicks or anything, but they were full of misinformation which made getting my pass back harder. that was two seasons ago and i'm still bitter. screw that british patroller

I was at craigleith today which is a private club in ontario.

I coach a park team at alpine and we were there for a slopestyle comp

anyways our practice goes from 9 - 10 and comp 10 - 12 its almost 9:30 and the parks not even ready theres a big group of ski patrol at the top of the park gettin shit ready and we ask them if we can go hit the stuff so we do then theres a ski patrol on snowblades standing in the landing of this little jump no one hits it at first cuz its small and pointless but a 9 year old student of ours hits it and and almost gets nailed by the snowblader ski patrol. the guy absolutley freaks the fuck out at this little kid, full out screaming at him saying what dont you understand about not going, the kid was on the verge of crying, another coach who was at the top quickly got over there and told the snowblader off.

If I saw a ski patrolmen on snowblades being serious with someone, or me for that matter. I would start laughing uncontrollably.

+1 Same with cops and mps. One area up here is on base and I have to drive through the gate everytime I wanna hit their park. I don't have a front license plate and I swear they tell me I need to get one every time I drive through. I just play polite and stupid and it works every time. Works with teachers when I don't have a hall pass, works with parents, and I'm pretty sure it would work with ski patrol. Starting an argument or fight is worthless, leave that to the boarders.

I love Keystone.

I was by myself one morning on a beautiful powder day and I didn't know the resort very well. I was riding some trees, never ducked a rope, but still ended up by the side of a slalom race. I wasn't even out of the forest yet and some dude in black with a walkie talkie comes screaming at me YOU'RE IN BIG TROUBLE.

I apologized and asked him to show me where to go without disturbing the training. He continued screaming at me: YOU ALREADY RUINED EVERYTHING, I'M NOT EVEN TALKING TO YOU, I'M TAKING YOU DOWN TO SKI PATROL AND THEY WILL DECIDE IF THEY PROSECUTE.

I just shut my mouth and followed the dude. At the base ski patrol turned out to be a really chill girl and I told her my story, showed her on the map where I went and apologized again. She said I seemed nice and let me go.

The dude kept screaming "BUT HE POACHED OUR RACE TRACK!!!!!!!!" and she laughed. She pointed at my skis and said "look how fat his skis are, do you really think he wanted to poach your race track!?!??" ahahhahahaha I laughed so much he was so embarrassed...

i just got back from japan, ski patrol over there is lax as. i think i saw mebe 10 patrollers at most, and even at the backcountry gates they wernt checking for avy gear, it was just straight through. no problems with hitting runs switch either.

depends on the day for sure. its not huge, but its better than the east coast if thats were urs coming from. the park is a big improvement over last year, but still isnt very big. we only have like flat rails and alot of boxes. we have a tree ride and a wall ride, but they both are pretty small. lastly in the park we have 2 taps, a garbage can and a huge tire, which are kinda scetch if u ask me. no jumps in the park, but i would be happy to show you some, or build one if ur down. building isnt bad, cuz theres almost always a pow spot to land in. there are some cliffs too, but i dont know what you consider big in terms of cliffs. we have some huge ones, but not enought snow this year to hit them.... so ya ht me with a pm or something if u come out this way and i could probably show you whats here, but if you are really good i dought you would keep interest in what we have for more than a few days.

I'm from the UK and have been skiing for 24 years, mainly in Europe.

The only times I have ever had anyone give me shit about skiing too fast/dangerous/crazy or whatever has been the only times I have skied in the US; in Killington and Utah; and both those times I didn't even get close to hitting anyone or causing any sort of trouble; I was just skiing the way I always do.

Mainly in Europe you're allowed to do your own thing and most people learn from their mistakes; or generally are smart enough not to make stupid, avoidable mistakes.

If you go down a closed run, or off-piste (outside marked areas); it's at your own risk and you take the consequences yourself.

I don't think I could handle it if all my skiing was regulated and closely watched for signs of slight danger. Skiing is a dangerous sport; if you understand that and treat it as such there should be no need for mass-policing.

Alberta, where the patrolers dont bother you unless you burn down a hotel or something.

I read all these threads about this shit and just think it must suck to be american and a skier sometimes. lol
