Legalizing Marijuana

If weed was a little bit more like coke, so it made you stay on task, it would be legalized so much faster. Everyone that can actualy make a difference in this issue gets way to high and says fuck it cus their already high any way.

Marijuana is a rapidly growing shrub. When ingested or smoked marijuana is a powerful psychoactive. Marijuana is currently illegal. Drugs that are more damaging to a person's health than marijuana are legal. Enforcing marijuana laws is expensive. The stigma attached to marijuana has social side affevts. marijuana should be legalized.
Marijuana is not as damaging to a human's health as some legal drugs are. In 2002 seventeen thousand people were killed in alcohol related auto accidents. People that smoke cannabis are not as impaired as a drunk driver. When an individual operates a vehicle under the influence of alcohol they will crash and potentially kill themselves, or someone else. Cannabis smoke is less likely to cause cancer than tobacco smoke. Smoker's of tobacco will get a variety of deadly cancers. Most tobacco users will die of cancer at a relatively young age. The human lungs contain nicotine receptors, but they do not contain THC receptors. Lungs are not damaged by THC. On the other hand, nicotine is very poisonous and damaging to the lungs. According to the prestigious European medical journal, The Lancet, "The smoking of cannabis, even long-term, is not harmful to health. ... It would be reasonable to judge cannabis as less of a threat ... than alcohol or tobacco." there is no good reason for tobacco to be legal. Cannabis is far more benign than tobacco. Many legal drugs are more dangerous than marijuana.
Legalizing cannabis makes sense from an economic standpoint. Enforcing marijuana prohibition costs taxpayers an estimated ten billion dollars annually. We could spend this money on enforcing legitimate crimes such as theft, murder, rape etc. Also consider that our nation is massively i debt, there is no reason that ten billion wasted dollars shouldn't be spent on alleviating financial strains on our government. Marijuana costs less money than prescription pain pills such as Lortab. If a cancer patient pays $10 a day for marijuana they are saving money over expensive pills. When people save money they spend it which helps our economies. Our economy needs this boost.
Teens that use cannabis are more socially active and healthier. A Swiss study suggests that teens who use only cannabis appear to function better than those who also use tobacco, and are more socially driven and have no more psychosocial problems than those who abstain from both substances, according to a new report . When teens use cannabis they will participate more in class than an a student that does not use cannabis. If cannabis helps teens be more socially driven then why should it not be legal? One fifth of swiss cannabis users report having never used tobacco. If cannabis were to be legalized tobacco use would plummet. It is safer and healthier for kids to stay home and smoke weed than it is for them to go party, get drunk and get in a wreck driving home. Teen sociality is sufferring and cannabis legalization would help.
It is rediculous for marijuana to be illegalized. tobacco and alcohal are legal. We spend money on marijuana prohibition. Our children suffer from the lack of legalization of cannabis. Marijuana illegalization is based in racism and communism. There is absolutely no reason for marijuana to not be legal.

no offense man, but that essay shouldnt be taken seriously. Our children are hurting because marijuana isnt legal? thats quite a stretch. Why should kids waste money buying weed when they can put it away for use later in life. As far as more effective in the classroom, I don't believe that for a second.

ok so yea, first off, i had a list of sources that didn't include wiki, twas all .org sites and shit

and you right above me there....
have you ever smoked weed?
it helps me with school

that may be true for you, it fucks a lot of people over at the same time. My friend cant fall asleep without smoking and its fucking with his school work.

no offense but youre pretty terrible at writing. The format wasnt bad, nice and organized. But throw in more complex sentence structure rather than simple sentences. You have the choice of complex, compound, and complex-compound. Would it kill you to use some hyphens or a semicolon?

you are providing amazing evidence that people who smoke are a lot better off in matters of school, i think the quality of your paper proves it! good job

It would also help if u actually cared about the stuff you were arguing about enough to make a concise point. This essay is just the perspective of a young kid arguing these points so he wont get in trouble when mom or dad or the cops catch him smoking. Also maybe an attempt at dissonance in justifying the fact that he is wasting his life.

Hey guys. Chill out on the guy with the paper, after all, you asked him to post it. Also he was prolly stoned as he wrote it.

Tobacco is also much harder to cultivate than cannabis, so if we turned 5% of the tobacco fields into cannabis fields we could almost eliminate the outrageous price of it. Then the goverment could tax the hell out of it, I remember reading somewhere that if we put the same amount of resources into growing cannabis as we do into growing tobacco that a hay bail size block of cannabis would cost around 70 dollars.

Also, I am voting for obama because I believe he "might" de-criminalize it, or maybe actually legalize.

The first step is decriminalization, the second step would be legalizing it.

What are you talking about, I smoke pot maybe once a week.

I have a 3.9gpa, work 25 hours a week at a bike shop, ski three times a week, play rugby and still have a social life.

I would not call myself lazy at all.

The only reason I am home right now is I am sick, and feel like crap, something that I know marijuana would actually HELP with.

Also ingestion on THC is safer than most over the counter painkillers.

hah how did this thread turn into hating on the kids paper...

anyway this topic has been discussed way too much on this site... just go smoke it if u want to. its not like you cant do it cause its illegal...

No, I can still do it if its illegal.

Its just much harder to get, and it can come from some shady people.

Actually, I know no one who has any and I haven't smoked in about 2 months.

Its not that I "can't" keep it up...

I could never smoke pot again and be just fine. But you could never ski again and be just fine too.

Life is about doing what you enjoy, and sometimes its nice to do what you enjoy.

wow what kind of english class are you in that you get a 98 percent on that kind of writing... i feel that is a horrible written essay

"I really hope they legalize marijuana soon...not because I smoke it all the time or anything, but because once it's legal, stoners won't have anything left to talk about..."

-Daniel Tosh

The thing is, I am not really a stoner, much more of a casual smoker.

Which annoys me even more about it being illegal.

because if they buy weed then they probly wont feel the need to buy other shit that is useless. And if weed is legalized it will be cheap as fuck

i doubt it'll happen anytime soon. it is sad though, that i can get weed within about 20 minutes any day of the year. now i try to get alcohol for a party, and sometimes can't even get it. that is so fucked up. anyways, most people that do smoke don't care because shit, they are getting high anyways. it would be sweet and all but who knows...

What about the one who are smoking weed 5 times a day and are totally gone when they are stting in school and cant follow the rest of the class because they are too stone to understand what the teacher is telling them, and unable to do ttheir schoolworks???

These people are the reason weed shouldnt be legalised.

Abuse of anything cant be helpfull and making it legal wont help much.

Yeah, but is that any worse than the kid who is up till 430 playing halo every night and then sleeps all day in class? In the long run it's about personal responsibility. I don't think weed being legal will really make it any worse, and it would certainly be nice if there was some assurance of what is actually in it and where it comes from.

B.S. fool that will never happen. and you know that the po po can track you donw by you IP adress on your computer. that is where oyu would go rot in jail.

^^ its not about those people they are gonna be be high in class even if it isnt legal obviously.

Legalization shouldnt be about whether you can smoke it or not. Don't say "oh hey i can smoke it now anyways and it doesnt matter", its about the money that our government could be saving and the amount of crime and organized crime that will be eliminated due to legalization. I smoke about once every two months, i could care less if i never smoked again. Im not fighting this fight for legalization in order to smoke it im fighting for much more practical and thought out reasons.

HHAHAHAHAHA shane shut the fuck up!! you can't call anyone a stoner you bastard!

anyways i also think it is a thing of moderation. i don't smoke too much now, but when i did it was 3-4 times a week when i had nothing else to do and just wanted to chill with buddies. my grades stayed about the same went up a lil, but i think it was unrelated. now i really only smoke with my girl and occasionally skiing. it's the kids who do it all day every day that are stupid and give it a bad reputation. but like i said above, i doubt it will happen so oh well.

haha shut up you fucking narc agent, your job is evil and the day you get accidentally shot by your triggerhappy partner, Nobodys gonna come to your embarrassing funeral

I smoke pretty much everyday, and I really hope pot is never legal. Look at how incredibly fake tobacco has become. They add so much shit that is terrible for you. If it was legal it would get just like that and overtime legit normal pot would be pretty hard to find unless you were growing. Also people keep saying it would get cheaper. I guess some of it would, but the gov. nows how much we pay for pot, why wouldn't they tax it to as much as it is now?
