I just finished watching The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (http://blip.tv/file/1356143/) and it really blew my mind. From the false studies to the medical miracles to how the crime would be destroyed if the legalized, to the uses of industrial hemp, it just seems like such a good idea. So it is obvious that this movies out some major badness but I've never seen evidence of this badness, so ns, tell me what bad about pot and your take on legalization.
 
hopefully within the next 20 years...i would prefer decriminalization though, unless private growing and selling would be allowed and unregulated as well as commercial shit. because i dont trust the government with the herb, they fucked up tobacco.
 
ahahah i wrote my senior paper on this like 3 years ago...whats bad about legalizing pot? nothing really, just proved that once upon a time the government made a mistake(imagine that) and it would be pretty difficult to tax, and more people would probably give it a try... pros- buying pot would no longer put you into "criminal circles" causing less drug related crime and robbery, it would give the police more time to chase actual criminals, it would be a major cash crop for our country like it was back when it started, the first marijuana law on record in america required every farmer to grow it becuase of the economic benefits that it provides... its endless, it will just take a while becuase everyone who has the power to change these things are too old and concieted to admit they are wrong and do not want to take the blame for legalizing it
 
Such a good movie. I showed that to my friend who was so against it, and it really changed his mind haha. What that one guy said was so true, something like, smoking marijuana may not be addicting, but learning about it quickly does.
 
^good for you dude, yea i smoked monday for the last time until opening day... unless of course that doesnt happen until thanksgiving, i have to be fucking high for thanksgiving, its a tradition

I give it 5 more years. they had there 20 millionth bust in October. its so bullshit. more than 70% of Americans have tried it once.
 
if we legalized i it would kind of ruin it for people who need to sell dope. like kids in college who need the money. i think marijuana is more useful as a tool like that
 
ya dude this shit is bullshit. The only reason why its not legal is because the govn aint found a way to tax it. I did a research an i found out that over 75 million americans smoke weed an each person spends more then 200 a year on weed. if the govn would tax that shit we wouldnt be in fuckin debt like we are. Marijuana is the way out. We wouldnt be in this depression or whatever if weed was legal

legalization would come quicker to the US than you think if everyone votes obama. he has nothing against pot smoking... but who knows there might be more to it than what i think. but i just hate how the governtment is out to make it look soo bad, when in all actuality, its better than alchohol and ciggerettes combined... I quit smoking and drinking... well not so much drinking but the last time i drank before halloween was like a couple months ago... it just seem's I'd rather spend my money on weed than booze. and smokes... so if the govenment wanted to make money off it they could... I say they make it illegal to smoke ciggerettes and legalize pot. I havent seen the movie yet, but I've been saying they need to legalize it for ever... another reason they dont want to is that if they do legalize it, seeing as its already a problem and its not legalizes for them just imagine what'd happen if they legalized it there would be no stopping it and they see it as a drung thats all... but ciggerettes arent, and me and my GF both agree'd that smokes fuck with your head more than weed ever could. ifso facto, if they can use it for medical purposes, then who really gives a shit people already have it, just give in already. that could also be a reason now that i think about it... maybe they dont want to seem like their giving into a crime...

anyway. I think it probably would be better for the country if they did legalize it because then the government could even get a piece of the pie. They could grow bud and sell it and tax it and make moneys. Think of all the crazy strains of weed they could create. and think about all the time it will save the cops not having to bust kids for having a joint at a party or something. fight crime not weeds.
 
I think that it would be a mistake to just declare a free for all one day on pot. If we want it to be legal, there needs to be structure. There should be laws legislating it, etc. The lack of legality is a consequence of a lack of business regulation, in my opinion anyway.

In other words, what I'm saying is that, when I got arrested for having weed, they made me pay a fine of like 250 bucks, and they didn't charge me or anything, it was like paying a traffic ticket. I would've rather not paid the fine, or been arrested, but all said and done, it wasn't that big of a deal. But for some one like the person that sells me weed, its a business. They are profiting from an enterprise that isn't sanctioned by the government. It's kind of like doing business without a license. If business licenses were offered to pot retailers, and there growers checked out and certified or whatever. Then we could have an orderly way to buy and sell without fear of criminals or the government.
 
i dunno dude... while he doesnt seem to be against smoking he is not a monarch, even if by some miracle a bill shows up on his desk and he passes it congress can still overturn it... we would need an revamp of both houses of congress and the president seat at the same time for a change like this to happen
 
Obama will not legalize marijuana and neither will any other president in the next several decades. Now at State and county levels it has a much higher chance, but for a president to legalize it for the whole country simply will not happen.
 
It's not ethical in the public eye, and they can't tax it since everyone already gets it from their own cheap sources. So no, I don't think it will be legal any time soon. It's been illegal for a long time already.

The reason it became illegal in the first place has to do with WIlliam Randolph Hearst. He owned the millls that made his paper out of trees. Hemp farms were really hurting his milling business so he started printing adds in his newspaper about how weed "brought out the devil in niggers" and "was used by niggers to seduce women". There was so much racism involved with it that when defending the repeal of the Marihuana tax act of 1937 that no one would hear the defending side.

GM also had a big role in this for in the early 20th century a lot of oil and synthetic like products could be made out of hemp oil. I don't remember exactly what it was but basically some big companies wanted cheap oil instead of making it themselves out of hempseed oil.

So basically the illegalization of marijuana had nothing to do with the drug itself; it was actually the cannabis plant that people had to contend with. And now what do we have? Weed is a fucking SCHEDULE 1 DRUG. fuck this.
