Legalization of Marijuana

I am in a class called creative writing, which is basically a class where you sit there and do nothing and the teacher is hot. we have to write some shit and send it to national public radio. it is called "this I beleive". i couldnt think of any topic to do it on so i decided to do "i beleive in the legalization of marijuana" i have to express my opinions and have valid points/ arguements on why i beleive this. i am going to to research on health benefits of marijuana, which i know there are some, but what are your guys thoughts on why marijuana should be legalized?

Search google and shit, you'll find alot more shit there than you will on NS. There are sooo many sites about this, hit some of them up.

so my 5 day suspension i'm on right now wouldn't be there, yea they caught me with 3/4 of an ounce 3 packs of philly blunts, 12 blunt wraps my bowl and a pack of j papers on the school baseball trip to myrtle beach

man in this issue of mens health last summer it stated that marijuanna prevents heart desiese and theres somethin else good about it too but i cant remeber

health benafits...

-helps you relax in stressed times

-dialates arteries and helps reduce high blood pressure.

-helps cure eating disorders

-PAIN RELIEF

Economic Reasons

-If taxed and controlled be the government will make LOTS of money.

-If legalized and controlled by the government it will take a significant amount of black market profit away from organized crime.

Miscellaneos

-its alot of fun, and can be used without causeing alot of the bad things alcohol does.

-makes people more friendly

take a different approach and say "if marijuanna is legalized, the big companies will take over and your local economy will be ruined

Here's one paragraph from a paper i wrote for history:

A former DEA official admitted that, "In strict medical terms marijuana is far safer than many foods we commonly consume. It is physically impossible to eat enough marijuana to induce death. Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man" (People and Prohibition). It has been only made illegal for 1% of the herb’s known existence, dating back in society as far as 1000AD (Guither). Besides its psychoactive properties, fabric, paper, housing, food and even fuel can be efficiently produced from the cannabis plant. Many cancer, AIDS and patients suffering from neurological illnesses prefer the use of marijuana rather than synthetically made drugs, as it has far less harmful side effects and often more effective. Yet, by signing the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act, the government has made marijuana illegal in the United States to this day, depriving many dying patients relief from their suffering. Parallel to alcoholic-prohibition era, the fact that it is illegal has little effect on the tens of millions of often-frequent consumers of the plant. Contrary to popular belief, marijuana is significantly less harmful than the use of Alcohol, something that is an established part of our society. There have been zero deaths from marijuana, as it is impossible to overdose and has no proven long or short-term effects that effect health in a serious way (Wikipedia). Although the tide is slowly changing towards the legal status of marijuana, the unfortunate prohibition of the substance has been in effect too long for there to be any immediate change. Hopefully, as the United States progresses further into the 21st century the government will see the parallels between the failure of alcohol prohibition and the legal status of marijuana. Perhaps they will stop thinking based on the greed and bias of politicians and appropriately decriminalize the most controversial plant to ever break through the United State's rich soil.

Basiclly, there is NO logical reason that marijuana is illegal and alcholol/ciggerttes are not. Theres probably another 100 main points i didnt mension

^yea the ironic thing is that it would be 100x harder for kids (under 18) to get if it were Legal. Also it would elimiate the small percetage of bud that does get laced with bad shit like pcp.

For debate I was going to do a topic about legalising pot, and there is so much information on the internet it is crazy. You just have to wonder how much of the information is true because potheads tend to make things up. But yeah leagalizing has a very strong argument.

the government sucks a fat cock, its so shitty, if they didn't go to war and buy all the expensive military shit they could give everybody free college. The nation's budget on military shit is 1 trillion a year and bush wants a missile defense system to shoot down nukes(when now they are small enough to fit in a back back, might as well ride a boat over here instead of a missile) for an additional 1.5 trillion. If that 1.5 trillion were split up between the 25 million students of the US each kid would get 60,000 for education. And they should just legalize marijuana, put like a 10 percent tax on it and we wouldn't have to pay so much taxes. Marijuana is also less addictive(and it's easier to kick the addiction) than tobacco.

why the hell isn't it legal? my dad is a doctor(and really conservative) and when I asked him why not he said there's nothing really wrong, but there are more effective drugs(for medical use).

^there isnt actually a drug that is more effective in all as many aspect of medical use as smoking pot, but it also carries those few risks that other drugs dont so it is very controversial

Just about everyone who tries to make these arguments isnt making them on the grounds of being an AIDS patient, or actually having cancer. They make them on the grounds that these people would be helped too, if the untroubled smoker were allowed to get legally high.

I have no problem with people who smoke as long as it is something they like to do rather than a lifestyle that they slip on. There are few things more pathetic than watching friends fall into new personalities, syntactic methods, and presentations of self (i.e. dirty hippies) because it is easier to assume a persona than to create your own. So enjoy a good high every now and then, just dont let the high own you.

here are the lyrics:

[Drinker]

Hello, Hello

My name's Terry and I'm a law-abider

There's nothing I like more than getting fired up on beer

And when the weekend's here

I exercise my right to get paralytic and fight

Good bloke fairly

But I get well leery when geezers look at me funny

Bounce 'em round like bunnies

I'm likely to cause mischief

Good clean grief you must believe

And I ain't no thief, law-abiding and all, all legal

And who cares about my liver when it feels good?

What you need is some real manhood

Rasher, Rasher, burning cash up

Putting people's backs up

Public disorder, I'll give you public disorder

I down eight pints and run all over the place

Spit in the face of an officer

See if that bothers ya

'Cause I never broke a law in my life

Some day I'm gonna settle down with a wife

Come on lads let's have another fight

[Marijuana Smoker]

Um, Hello

My name's Tim and I'm a criminal

In the eyes of society I need to be in jail

For the choice of herbs I inhale

This ain't no wholesale operation

Just a few eighths and some Playstation's my vocation

I pose a threat to the nation

And down at the station the police hold no patience

Let's talk space and time

I like to get deep sometimes

And think about Einstein and Carl Jung

And old Kung Fu movies I like to see

Pass the hydrator please

Yeah, I'm floating on thin air

Going to Amsterdam in the New Year - top gear there

'Cause I take pride in my hobby

Home-made bongs using my engineering degree

"Dear leaders, please legalize weed for these reasons."

[Drinker]

Like I was saying to him

I told him, "F**k with me and you won't live."

So I smacked him in the head and downed another Carling

Bada Bada Bing

For the lad's like, mad fight

His face a sad sight, Vodka and Snake Bite

Going on like a right geez

He's a twat!

Shouldn't have looked at me like that

Anyway, I'm an upstanding citizen

If a war came along I'd be on the front line with 'em

Can't stand crime either, them hooligans on heroin

Drugs and criminals

Those thugs are the pinnacle of the downfall of society

I've got all the anger pent up inside of me

[Marijuana Smoker]

You know, I don't see why I should be the criminal

How can something with no recorded fatalities be illegal?

And how many deaths are there per year from alcohol?

I just completed Gran Turismo on the hardest setting

We pose no threat on my setee

Ooh the pizza's here, will someone let him in please?

We didn't order chicken

Not a problem, we'll pick it out

I doubt they meant to mess us about

After all we're all adults, not louts

As I was saying, we're friendly peaceful people

We're not the ones out there causing trouble

We just sit in this hazy bubble with our quarters

Discussing how beautiful Gail Porter is

MTV, BBC 2, Channel 4 is on until six in the morning

Then at six in the morning the sun dawns and it's my bedtime

[Drinker]

Causing trouble?!

Your stinking rabble boys

Saying I'm the lad who's spoiling it

You're on drugs

It really bugs me when people try and tell me I'm a thug

Just for getting drunk

I like getting drunk

'Cause I'm an upstanding citizen

If a war came along I'd be on the front line with 'em

[Marijuana Smoker]

Now Terry, you're repeating yourself

But that's okay, drunk people can't help that

A chemical reaction happening inside your brain causes you to forget what you're saying

[Drinker]

What?

I know exactly what I'm saying

I'm perfectly sane

You stinking student lame-o

Go get a job and stop robbing us of our taxes

[Marijuana Smoker]

Um, well actually according to research

Government funding for further education pales in insignificance

When compared to how much they spend on repairing leery drunk people at the weekend

In casualty wards all over the land

[Drinker]

Why you cheeky little swine, come here!

I'm gonna batter ya!

Come here!

I think it would be sweet!....but something tells me that legalization of Mary Jane will be somewhat of the equievalant of if we went to hydrogen instead of gasoline,it would be better for us but would damage the ciggarette industry forever and immensely.

if they legalized it it a lot of shady people would be out of a business the crime rate might even go down. Plus there is no real scientific evidence that shows real harmful effects of marijuana on the body. Liquor on the other hand is a posion for your body.

if you want your paper to have any credibility at all, please don't use google...look into proquest, jstor, infotrac, or something like that
