Legal help needed!

So, NS is probably the worst place for legal help, but if you have any advice lets hear it. A month or so ago a couple of my friends and I threw down on an RV. Went to look at it, ask the guy some questions ect. He tells us he "just replaced all of the engine fluids." We planned on taking it to a shop to get it looked over thoroughly once we could get up some money, but we were short on money and chose skiing until thanksgiving break, then we were going to take it to the shop over break. Well, last weekend driving home it gets stuck in first. Great, transmission shot. Take it to a shop and they said our transmission fluid burnt up because it was so old. We went back to the shop a day later with a truck to unload all of our stuff from the RV and walk in to puddles all over, this was the first rain Earl had seen. This brings us to another lie told buy the selling. He said he had just recently resealed the roof. What I ask you NS is was there anything illegal in telling us he replaced all the engine fluids or was that really up to us to go through and check all of the fluids? I'm hopefully going to call the guy later tonight when one of my buddies gets out of class and would like to go into this conversation with the most knowledge possible, we aren't looking to fuck him over legally, we just want our damn money back because we were broke, and now our ski house is gone.

it all depends really on how he said it if he said like "o it runs great or its sealed great" or anything opinionated then he is not liable because it is all preference i am not sure about the straight up lieing to ur face or anything like that...

yeah it was very straight up:me: so when was the last time you changed the oil?dude: oh just recently, i went through and replaced all the engine fluids!
i have 3 other people who were there who heard this but im really not banking on being to do anything legally, i hope he is just a reasonable person and either realizes that in all his work he forgot to check the transmission fluid, or has some other explanation and we can work something out, but we all know most people are douche bags so i dont see this going very far

i don't know if you can pin it on him unless it was written, i mean he could have been drunk, tired, high, sick... blah blah blah

i'm not sure though. hopefully we can help a fellow nser out though

theres not much to do. If you didnt get it in writing, theres def. not much you can do...

but just try to talk it out with him and what not

Be polite and reasonable, whatever you do don't threaten him with legal action because then he'll be an asshole and deny that he said anything like that, it'll cost you guys huge money in legal fees and you probably won't get any money back. Tell him your situation, explain what you want, and if possible make a reasonable compromise. By giving in a little you guys will probably come out of this better than by making non-negotiable demands.
