Legal, free rail park in Denver! (Ruby Hill Rail Yard)

Winter Park Resort and Denver Parks and Recreation have partnered to turn a famous denver sledding hill into a free, open to the public rail park. Ruby Hill Rail Yard opening day (Saturday Jan. 20th) and was quite epic and alhough there were approx. 6 skiers and 85 snowboarders, we held our own and had a great session.

The park (which contains 6 boxes of varing widths and lengths) will be open from 5am until 11pm daily until all the snow melts. No one really knows how long this will be, but the base is about 3 feet of man-made and it's a north-east facing aspect so hopefully it'll last a while. The park is perfect for learning new rail tricks, and you don't have to spend hours dealing with I-70 headaches just to hike a rail.

I am a volunteer for this project and will be there every saturday raking, shoveling and sessioning. Show up and say hey. Ruby Hill is on W. Florida just west of S. Platte river drive.

yea good question why go to ruby hill and hit 6 different features for free with no effort when you could spend hours carting snow to a handrail and building inruns, jumps etc.

ha i went there and there were two people on skis me and another guy both on teles. they are all boxes and have no gaps on. its kinda boring

just went tonight and it was decent, but it's not lit very well at night.. better to go in the day if you wanna slide for an hour or two

i was there last night and i was the only skier besides the telemarker and the lighting is probably the worst lighting i have ever been under the lights are meant to light up the playground not the hill but the boxes are pretty smooth

Yea there are always tons of boarders. It is pretty fun though considering it is in the city. If anyone hasn't gone yet I reccomend going if for nothing more than to check it out. It is also perfect for learning your switch 270 on 450s off etc.

yea, the lighting at night leaves a lot to be desired. the organizers wanted to do somthing better, but there was no solution (without building more permanant and very expensive) lights. if the project continues to be a huge success, you can count on things improving year by year (lighting, variety of features, the whole bit). constructive and realistic criticism and advice will be taken seriously by me and i will advise those with power to make changes next year.

a quick note about the lighting tho... PLEASE DO NOT drive your vehicle off the roadway at all in an attempt to light it better with your headlights. this has already happened and the higher-higher ups have said this WILL RESULT IN THE PARK BEING CLOSED PERMANTLY. i don't want this, and neither do you.

see ya there saturday.

hey penguin, thanks to all you guys who keep that park up and running. I was really skeptical when a couple of my friends told me about it but once i got there i was plesently surprised with how well it is maintained. keep up the good work

8 min from my house anyone want to go take over next week around 6pm one night? ...I heard the skiers need to represent!

i was there on friday and it wasnt too good because of the warm temps boxes slanted etc. but with the new now and the cold lately should be sick again
