Leg injury from a rail

Ok so long story short I fell on a rail at trollhaugen and my knee caught one of the supports underneath and ended my season a little early. Had emergency surgery Saturday night. Wondering if anyone else has been injured from the supports from a rail

warning- image may be a bit graphic

ahh shit man that's gnarly, hope you're feeling alright, how sharp was that support beam, looks like it was way too sharp...

you should get a pair of kneepads in the future if youre hitting alot of rails, dont let this discourage you.

was there a skirt? Were you going fast? I'm just trying to picture it, thats such a gnarly gash man.

Sorry about your injury, hope that it heals up quick and that you can impress people with your brutal story/pics!

geeeez man that looks brutal. my little brother sliced his knee open like this when he was first learning how to slide rails, only he slipped out and his inside ski edge cut him.

I was goin for a lip on but I got snaked hard right before and didn’t have the speed. I’m not sure if it was one of the supports, I think it was actually one of the holds that the cat would pick it up by

You're not the only one. 8-9 years ago I came up short on a disaster on a dfd with no wood supports underneath. Ended with a compound fracture of my right tib/fib. Similar to you, season ended early and had to have emergency surgery.

The Good: Broke the leg in March, was skiing again at a rail jam in October. Fully healed from my injury with virtually no residual pain now. Took some time, but worked back to the same level that I was pre injury and have continued to progress as time goes on. This injury specifically gave me so much perspective at a young age. Have to be more serious now about what I'm doing off the hill (eating habits/gym/etc) to be sure that I can do what I want on the hill.

The Bad: This style rail still sketches me out. I was super bummed for a long time because of minimal progress on recovery and honestly took me about 2 years before I really felt comfortable on skis again. Ended up needing additional surgeries to clean up an infection and get the screws out. Screws came out last year, they randomly started hurting about 5 years after the surgery. Leg can swell up sometimes from ski boots but I don't notice until my boot comes off.

Hoping your recovery goes well and take PT seriously. Feel free to reach out anytime if needed.

Geez man sounds like you had a much worse time than me. I should be good in like 2 weeks

wow dude fair play that’s an epic slice.

Would this have happened if he was wearing a decent set of knee pads? I’ve always put off buying some but things like this remind me they might be a good idea...
