LEDs

So i recently bought a set of old 1080's, the spaceframe ones for really really cheap brand new. So i threw on a pair of old bindings and now i have these 181s laying in my room. So i was thinking maybe i could mount some LED's on them, mainly because i absolutely love LED's and also because they are small enough to plausibly fit on a ski. I figured i would mount a box with some watch batteries under the boot since their is a small gap, and i see no problem with this. Now comes the question that i pose for the all knowing members of newschoolers.com how would i mount regular 5mm LEDs on my skis, could i mount them (router slightly into the ski so they are nearly flush) or should i just use surface mount LED's which wouldnt be as bright but wouldnt be as intrusive either. I essentially want a normal looking ski that i can flip a switch and light the bugger up.

just wait, im ahead of the game, a few years from now all people that ride at night will have LED skis...allllll of them

sounds kinda cool, id drill into the top sheet a little bit to put them more flush...it shouldnt damage the ski at all

so how far could i go, cause i really dont wanna use surface mounts as i want these lights to be blinding bright, so are we talking 1/16 of an inch, 1/8? before i start damaging the ski.

i could be completely wrong on this but couldnt you cover them with the standard epoxy/resin mix that one would use to repair surfboard dings? its clear so it wouldnt hide much but it'd let through most of the light. i dont know how it would hold up if you mounted tthe LEDs where your skis would flex, as the only experience i have with the stuff is on my surfboards which clearly don't bend. I don't know, worth a shot.

that was my other concern; if my skis bend would they pinch the LEDs to the point where they break. I have thought of a way to avoid this, if i mounts some surface mount LEDs on the tip and tail and then some super bring right in front and behind the binding i should not have to worry about flexing, does this sound like a viable solution?

id just mount them in not very far, like 1/8 of an inch, you wont damage anything at that depth i dont think and you shouldn't break them from bending them

yea, but that would mean going through the core, i supposed that you could mount them while the ptex is still hot, that would be pretty rad. But i think ill stick to keeping them on the top for now...ssee if that works before i progress any further.
