led zepplin or pink floyd?

Zeppelin has got to be one of the most over rated bands. Pink Floyd's song structures and melodies pwn Zeppelin's stupid four-bar blues and stale solos.

Pink Floyd for sure

everyone who says Dark Side of the Moon the best is just a trendwhore. Dark Side is a great album, but Wish You Were Here is way better imo. There's so much more meaning behind every one of those songs, and it's kind of sad if you know the story behind them

they have two really different styles, not really fair to compare them in terms of whose best, its whatever kind of music you lean towards. i love both but led zeppelin is the best rock and roll band to ever do it imho.

They didn't steal. They got the rights for the songs. Made them better..

Gallows Pole is a medieval song, no original artist known.

Babe, I'm going to leave you, that's a 40's song that they just made ever so better.

Everybody needs to listen to Meddle by Floyd.

Fearless is my all time favourite song. Listen to Fat Old Sun off of Atom Heart Mother too...

I'm pretty sure at least some of the stuff was never credited and they didn't have the rights to them. There have been lawsuits over it I think.

I like the division bell with the eerie gilmour parts sort of reminds me of shine on. Def can't consider that near one of the best albums though

Lies. Dark Side of the Moon is my favorite because the entire album flows like one song, and because the aural prowess of the album from an engineering aspect is still unmatched to this day. If you are really juvenile enough to pick a "trendy" album, Wish You Were Here is by far more popular.

No way, DS is way more trendier than Wish You Were Here. Also if you listen to the whole album, and not a downloaded version of each song individually, you will find that all the songs mesh together. Also, way more deeper meaning behind Wish You Were Here. While DS has a lot of meaning behind it, (about the different emotions humans face, and different stages), Wish You Were Here is about Syd and his collapse due to fame (hence the meaning behind the lyrics in Shine on you crazy diamond)

haha I can't believe you're even trying to argue this. I don't give two shits about lyrics, so how could there possibly be any objective truth in what you're saying? Also, Dark Side has the one up on sound quality. None of their other albums even compare.

Shut the fuck up, you don't know shit. Led Zep settled out of court for 4 of their songs, was forced to credit others, and has stolen lyrics and melodies from willie dixon to Sleepy John Estes. They NEVER got the rights to the songs they stole, and 14 are still pending or uncredited to the original artists.

Fuck trendiness and fuck salt. That's all commercial appeal to people like that. So many people only know Floyd for the Wall and Dark Side. Just like so many people only know Zeppelin for Stairway.

Dark Side was the first commercial success for Floyd. Before that, they we're pretty underground. The albums before was a lot of attempts, but didn't quite make it. Their first single released (Arnold Layne), had a lot of potential, at the same time though, Procol Harum released "Whiter Shade of Pale", and that over took them.

So many elements went into Dark Side to make it such a success. It was on the charts for 14 years for God Sakes.

It's a conceptual album, about stages of life, emotions and man's mentality. Everybody contributed, Alan Parsons did amazing work as a producer, I can go on and on.

Wish You Were Here is a follow up. Yes, Shine On is about Syd ("Come on you Piper"). Have a Cigar is about their sudden rise to commercial success. Wish You Were Here as a song is one of the first times Waters begins to write about his troubled, war torn childhood. Welcome to the Machine, I know there is something to it, I've never been about to pin it though. It's my favourite song to get lost to though.

Animals as a darker conceptual album. I don't want to go into that. I forgot what I'm typing about.

Sorry, I didn't put much research or thought into my post obviously.

Shows what I know about Zep.

*theft includes from bert jansch, jake holmes, robert johnson, etc etc whom they never gave credit to unless forced.

No way. Dark side is a far more trendy album. Then probably the wall. Yes the song wish you were here is trendy and overplayed, but you don't here noobs playing shine on all the way through. If I had to pick a favorite section I'd say us and them>any colour.

The wall seems to be the most trendy other than darkside. Wasn't one of my favorite albums.

The point is, modifying your opinion of something based on its "trendyness" is for hipsters. Hell, even mentioning which is more trendy is retarded in the first place. Dark Side might be their most successful, but the doesn't change the fact that it's the best album I've ever heard. And yes Us and Them is my favorite Floyd song. Also, anything written by Roger Waters sucked ass.

I wasn't modifying my opinion. Somebody was saying wish you were here was a really trendy album. I mentioned that the wall as a lot more trendy. All I said was the wall isn't one of my favorite albums, that has nothing to do with it's popularity. Kind of bummer when you never here your favorite songs on the radio or jukeboxes, but that's that's life.

i know my bad. like 7 years ago..
but any way. saucerful of secrets and obscured by clouds are almost not even known to the public. not to mention atom heart mother. and meddle are genius in there own rite. its just the later albums when it is pretty much roger .( animals the wall final cut) the tension is felt in the songs.. good don't get me wrong. i myself have never like the division bell. but the most popular 4 albums dark side wish you were here , animals the wall, are good, fucking good. and fucks sake piper at the gates of dawn is crazy good.. different. though. but really i posted this thread back when i was only the fuck about the later stuff and was a naive listener of music. both bands fucking rock.. in there own rite. glad to see that people are touched by two very good bands.

Both are incredibly talented bands, and both musical geniuses. Personally though I would have to go with Pink Floyd, i prefer how all there songs have a very deep meaning and really get you thinking about the meanings of the symbolism and metaphors used in their songs. I also like the spacey and more meaningful guitar parts and solos of David Gilmour. But that is not to say that jimmy page isnt one of the greatest guitarists in rock music it is app just personal preference.

Somehow I quoted you without realizing you posted more than just echoes part 1/2.

I like the raging psychedelic shit like interstellar. So many good songs on different albuams. It sort of tells the stories of different time periods when you go from one album to the next.

Pink Floyd and The Grateful Dead are about tied for my all time favorites.

i have a strong liking for Zep, but i have to say Pink Floyd just has something more to it. that spacey feeling, just the flow of pure musical genious i guess. Dark Side of the Moon has to be one of my favorite albums (i know trendy blablabla) just because of the energy of the songs and how they flow together. definitely more talent in Floyd but Led Zepp are still huge legends of rock

Dude theyre totally different bands. I like Led for their awesome generic rock beats, but I like Floyd for their more subtle style. Its like comparing Comfortably Numb and Black Dog, its rediculous

Both of your statements fall directly in line with my own personal opinions regarding this debate.

David Gilmour can convey more emotion in one note than Jimmy Page ever could in one show.

My username and icon share my love of Pink Floyd to the rest of you. The Division Bell is NOT my favorite album, but one of my favorite songs is on that album; Wearing the Inside Out. Pressed to actually choose a favorite Pink Floyd album I would choose Meddle or Obscured by Clouds, but I listen to and enjoy all of their works.

I can't even listen to an entire Led Zeppelin song without wanting to tear my ears from my head. Something about Jimmy Page being exceptionally sloppy and playing too many notes and Robert Plant's voice...fuck.

I actually planned to rotate through the Pink Floyd album collection with usernames and icons but that would have been confusing. Not to mention several album names would not display too well as they are a bit long.

You should just make your user name "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict"

I love both, and I don't really think they're comparable. I had a long spiel about how amazing both bands are and how they're different they are, but in the end if I'm actually LISTENING to the music as opposed to just having it be background noise at a party or something, I'd pick the floyd sound. David Gilmour just has that ability to give you goose bumps.Exhibit 1:
5:30 inAnimals is is full of Gilmours amazing work. And the first song I was actually scared of when I first heard it. The eeriest beginning to a song i've ever heard:

well it seems like pink floyd fans like to post videos of songs that nobody is going to watch

and for stricly that reason, i am gonna say zepplin.

houses of the holy is prety fucking amazing.... my fav . and i have it on vinyl

/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png john paul jones gets no fuckin respect as does richard wright.. but they fucking rock
