Leather SPKs. Needless killing of cows?

Personally I think the leather makes them look shit, makes them heavier and makes skiers look like they've totally given into snowboard culture in a tacky copycat kind of way. No style about the design, just whimsy tacky bollocks.

So to any Salomon market research people reading this post... Please change for next season.

More thoughts below.

"needless killing of cows" isnt appropriate, you should say needless waste of leather - the cows are gonna die anyway, everytime you scarf a burger at McD's, your eating cow, right? after they take the beef off the cows, they make leather from the skin...its just a waste of leather, no one would kill cows just for leather...jeez

Scientist should engieneer some giant cows so we don't have to kill as many cows.

SPKs are awesome.

first of all I really really really doubt that it's real leather, and second have you seen them in person? they look kinda sweet. I hated them when I saw em online at first, but at us open I saw some on the snow and they are pretty legit.

how the hell does a leather covering make them heavier?

the covering thingy probably weighs 0.002 lbs

Ahahah, you make me laugh.

First of all it's fake leather, and therefore, no cows were killed to make it.

Secondly, Salomon doesn't care what you think. Everyone else is stoked on the boots, they look sick, perform well and generally they are a huge success.

Third, we aren't "giving in to snowboard culture"...unless snowboarders invented the concept to use leather for footwear, which I feel safe saying they did not do.

Come down off your soapbox. If you don't like them, don't buy them. Simple as that.

I just needed a good rant. Ive been away from Newschoolers for a while.

But come on its pretty tacky. Dont your edges hack all the fake leather off after a while anyway and make them look messy?

ah..........i dont think anybody knows if they will do that or not.... im hoping they wont since i droped 5 on them so... lol they should be quality shit so...... when i ride on them for a season ill let u know

ya i asked the guy at the store and said it is more reliable than real leather so im guessin that they made some new shit or somethin' like that.... not sure though.... should be sick boot! cant wait to get on the slopes with them!

everybody who said its not leather is prolly right, i men they dont use real fur for fur hoods right? so reall leather o ski boots? probably not

it just seems kinda stupid to me to pay an extra 100 bucks or so for just the "textile cover", when you can get the same exact boot without it and save 100 dollars you can spend on useful things like candy or drugs.

it isnt the same boot. its stiffer and better quality as far as durability goes. but yeah im not sure it should be $100 more.

as for saying that your wasting leather or cows or w.e, if it was real leather then they wouldnt be wasting anything, it would be used for something gay like dumb womens shoes, at least theyre on a sick ski boot.

it is the EXACT same boot no difference at all i have skied with both of them the only difference is the pro is ugly and keeps your foot a little more warm

they can do what they want, since i'm a vegetarian i just won't buy the boots using animal products, it's as simple as that

Vegetarians don't have a problem with using animal products, that's Vegan...maybe you should figure out exactly what it is you are.

unfortunately, it really depends on the person as to how far you go with it

i'm NOT vegan because i eat dairy products and eggs

but using animal products is just as bad as eating meat, so i'm not sure what you're getting at

Well by consuming dairy products and eggs, you're using animal products...therefore contradicting your own system.

actually on the salomon video from SIA ( https://www.newschoolers.com/web/content/pagetemplate/name/sia07/ ), the salamon rep says that the pro models a slightly stiffer.

but yeah, i can't wait for mine to get here. and i got them for $475

but they don't have to kill cows to get milk, or chickens to get eggs

i know the conditions the animals are in is pretty bad, and i'd go vegan if i could in my situation

but you do have to kill animals to get thier skin, so it's not the same as drinking milk

I think they look pretty cool, and I can pretty much guarantee it's not real leather. More like vinyl.

an egg is an egg

the ones you eat are unfertilized

which means it was not actually anything to begin with

ya but seriusly what they do the chickens is wrong but comparing chikens and cows is like comparing appels and oranges. and plus leather would probably get all smellt if it stayed wet for a long time wth out drying yuck but sense there fake leather i think its sweet

i said in my last comment i know how poorly treated the animals are

but in my situation, i really can't go vegan

i will when i can though, have no worries

alright so someone please help me get this straight. Are the ones in "leather" stiffer, because I thought they were so i was going to buy them. Yah or Nay..

Right from the Salomon site...95 Flex index on both. I think that was pointed out a little further up the thread...

I love meat sooo much..
