Leashes on Children

Yeehaaaaw!

Learning to ski si a lot easier when you dont have the fear of picking up speed and going straight down the mountian. I used some "edgie-wedgies" when I was teaching a few years ago, which connect the tips together with a bungee cord and have leashes attached to each ski tip as well. They really work, it gets the students to feel what a wedge-turn is like and also gives them more confidence when they know that you'll be holding on to them.
 
haha funny story,I was skiing up at Smuggs 2 years ago and this lady had her kid on the leash and she cut directly across the trail and some gaper snowboarder going full speed goes flying into the space between the kid and the mom, sending all 3 of them flying. It was hillarious
 
i was the gaper boarder dude once. just not a gaper. or a snowboarder. it was more fun doing it than it can have been watching it.
 
when i was taught to ski i just did it...i got yelled at...i was scared....i cried most the way down to the point where my goggles were socked...i couldnt see....or my dad held me between his legs...i didnt take lessons...i learned by doing...back in the day when skiers wernt allowed in the parks and you used to have to sneak in and hope ski partol wasnt around or they would pull your ticket! oooo the times of the late 80's early 90s!!!

tho there is one good learn to ski kid thing i like...its like this harness that has a handle on it...to help lil kids onto the lift if they are too small to just sit onto it and to hold onto them so they dont fall off...i think that is a good idea
 
I see people that have their kids on leashes on their kids all the time. Its funny when the kid go's to fast and the gets sucked back right off there skis by there stupid parents. I feel a bit bad for the kid but i still laugh
 
teaching kids with a leash developes mad habits for young skiers. the start to trust the leash to much, and when it comes time to ski without the leash they have trouble with balance. with todays new equpment designed for new skiers, aswell as beginner slopes a leash is really unnessasary. and most kids after one or two lessons shouldnt need to have a leash anyways.
 
Skiforall at Snoqualmie Pass West. Its a volunteer organization that helps the mentally and physically disabled, and for participating for every saturday for 7 weeks you get a $50 unlimited season pass, free rides up on thier shuttle buses, and free clinics and training. It's also a great experience, and makes you really proud when you see your kid doing the turns you've taught him. I highly reccomend getting in on this at least for a year if you live in the Seattle area.

yeah leashes arent bad all the time. my lil buddy davis used to ski on a leashe. he was 5 at the time. hed ski without one most of the time, but we'd put one on on blacks ar double blacks, so he wouldnt get completey outa control.

but when kids are just starting out, they become to dependant on the leash, as mentioned above. the key for beginners is lots of mileage.

i never had any shit like that. Dad brought me to the top, said get your ass to the bottom, and gave me a push. Seriously though, i just learned with him yelling at me, same way i wanna teach my kids if i have any.

Then again, i hated skiing for quite awhile.
 
i learned on one of those things, granted i was two at the time and my dad made sure i didnt "rely on the leash" or anything.

my brother was the same way and i think it only forms bad habits for kids who are too lazy to try turning or stopping
 
OMG everyone has those at my hill...but I guess since my hill is really busy and its really really small so its really easy to loose a kid with so many people. But it must be scary for the kid and hard to ski.
 
the first time i ever went skiing, it was cross country. which sucked. there was one hill, and everyone considered me the "daredevil" because i wanted to go as fast as possible back down... needless to say, the next time i went skiing it was at sierra ski ranch (now sierra at tahoe) and a stupid leash was not necessary!

i had one when i first started skiing and it kinda sucked but wutever. i dont really remember it too much because i was only 1 but my mom said she took me for a run on it and when we got to the bottom i was asleep.
