now that snow season is over i bought a surfboard and a wet suit and started surfing. i am completely addicted. i have already gone over a dozen times in 3 weeks and pretty much stopped going to school
i wish i lived closer to the ocean. i learned to surf a few years ago but hardly ever have a chance to surf because i live like 5 hours from the closest shitty beach.
if you don't already have an idea of what you want to do down there you should think about teaching english or working at an eco tourism outfit.
check outhttp://www.adventuretravelabroad.com and look under jobs abroad
surfing is one of the most relaxing while stressing things one can do. I went suring in Hawaii last year, and im going back this summer. maybe i'll get some pics,\.
I started surfing three years ago around this time. Its almost better than skiing sometimes to me just cause its hella relaxing compared to skiing unless its like double overhead but that rarely happens where I surf. Where do you surf at?
new england has no surfing pecking order which is soo nice. Even though the waves are rarely nice its still fun to get out and enjoy surfing on the choppy little waves.
no problem. as for somewhere to go surfing, new zealand has a "12 month holiday work scheme" visa. apparently a fairly large shortage of workers. my brother is heading over there in a few months. if costa rica doesn't work out for some reason you should check it out.
New Zealand is really good about handing out work visas too. I applied for one for this summer and was granted it 3 days later. Super easy.
But Drew you sound EXACTLY like me. I'm taking off a few years after I graduate next Spring or the following Fall to travel, surf, and teach English before I head off to law school (if I decide thats the best option). We should chat.
i surf mostly Newport or Huntington beach. i like newport more just because it is mostly super cool older guys on long boards there. Yesterday was epic in the morning at newport. it was crowded but super fun
i love to surf,im out pretty much every day i live two mins away from manly beach in sydney where i get to do this
the place is perfect, it takes a while to learn but you get to meet so many rad people and see so many cool places, im heading to the maldives next mounth for a surf trip on a boat with my girlfriend for a month gonna be sick.
I have been to the maldives, amazing waves but super croweded, even the unknown breaks trhat are only boat accesable have like 5 other boats there with poepl surfing off them.
yea i heard that, we are going with my girlfriends filming company,in october im heading to the solomon islands for another trip so that should be tight. im off to bells tommorow for a week. decided to go today. cant wait!
about that after flights, $11200 australian the place we are staying is pretty cheap but hiring the boat and the crew is expensive as hell. worked my ass off for half a year, moved back with my parents, stoped going out work two jobs and can now afford 3 big trips this yea, maldives, the solomons and then euroupe to ski
That seems absolutely retarded to pay that much. You could live for like 2 years of surfing in Mexico/Central America for that. Or live an entire season pretty much anywhere in the world living comfortably.
would be sick, there was a stand at a University fair I went to a few years ago, NZ were really plugging their unis, super offeres of free flights and 3 years of subsidized fees!!
I'm studying chem and Law in Bristol(UK), then after that hopefully I'm heading out to the south of France to teach sailing, do some surfing etc, then in the winter I hope teaching skiing in Switzerland, should be unreal,
awesome, I'll be studying for an LLB and then go defense, thanks to my lack of moral fiber, Philosophy looks awesome, a few of my friends are taking it and they all love it
yea I know what you mean, I'll probably go to do city law in London, ideally, study at Grey's inn, and then I have a contact in Great James Street Chambers, so there might be something going on there in the future... I think I might actually have to "settle down" for a few years, it does suck...
oh my what a fun weekend at bells! surf has been epic at the moment cause of a nice big low system and storm just off the coast, pretty quiet as well not many people around here are some pics:
that looks like an epic session! are you on the quik team, assuming that's you doing the rad top turn on the quik stickered board?
you know when it's like october and all you can think about is skiing and the countdown is killing you? i have that feeling at the moment, coz i've got 2 months in indo, going in 3 weeks. meantime i'm stuck at home in the uk, nowhere near any waves, earning as much £££ as possible slowly going out of my mind. i've decided to embark on a ridiculous workout & swimming regime to keep myself busy and to get paddle fit. hopefully i'll take some decent pics of my trip all over indo and with any luck i don't get impaled on a coral head.
no not on the quick team thats my mates board who is on the wqs i just was playing on the thing cause i was looking at getting a double concave which i have never ridden so tried it out. i have a shop sponsor at a shop near me a few beaches up from where i live. off to the maldives on tuesday!
the wait sucks, thankfully i work shift work so i surf everyday thankfully there are about 8 beaches near me so there is always swell somewhere
Yerr like aussie skier im pretty blessed living on the northern beaches in sydney. surf everyday. and got a trip to maldives booked in 4 weeks, then later in october over to bali, then later on in the year am over in hawaii for the winter season. whilst on the topic any people in sydney want any second hand board i need to clean my room out a bit??
if the board is in good nick take it down to aloha surf shop in manly (dont go near the quicksilver shop in manly or aus surf HQ cause they will rip you off.) talk to a guy called dustin and he will hook you u with either trading it in or just buying it from you. either that or line up down at D Y,
