Learning rails

About how long did it take you to learn rails?? I was up at the local mountain for about 9 hours the other day and learned huge 180 of this table, and I also got the hang of riding switch pretty well. But I was just wondering how long did it take you. I also have a problem with focusing on a straight line riding switch to actually take off switch, any suggestions?

find a small rail, dont think about it, and hit it. rails are all trial and error. for riding switch and staying straight maybe put one foot farther back then another to correct your crookedness. and you gotta really put your neck back. practice makes perfect

and i awoke, and faintly bouncin round the room, the echo of whomever spoke.

It took me like whole sesion + summer to get 270 on 270 off, blind sides ect... After about 1/2 a seson you will be able to do most evey rail normal and then some nice tricks on and off. Just keep trying and keep at it.

just remember to commit, turn COMPLETELY sideways, and watch the end of the rail. it'll take a full day in the park to get the hang of smaller rails.

First time... I looked right at my feet and fell straight backward. Got up... tried it about 10 more times and with instruction and tips from my brothers... got it.

get really good balance over your skis...have your feet kind of far apart...the key is don't think about it too much and jump up before you turn the whole 180...stay on top of your skis, not leaning back or forward

u mean 90...cuz a 180 means you wont be able to procreate

i'm scared of rails, the last time i hit one (last year) i nearly separated my shoulder and felt like dieing, now i'm gonna try this 6 ft one at home that's about 4 inches off the ground so i don't die

it took me more than a season. people kept telling me you either have it and love it or get hurt so much you quit trying to slide them. I'd always get intimidated, fall back, and slam my hip on the rail. It just took getting comfortable sliding a box, then a small, wide, flat rail to build my confidence and do everything right so I wouldn't bang my hip.

I was feeling real good a few days ago because I could do all the flat rails in our park (about 6 or 7) and then fell on my ribs and bruised them (hopefully they're not broken). Now that I know I can do them, I'm hooked for life. I've started wearing a mouth guard because I've heard horror stories of kids getting their teeth knocked out on rails. They can be a bitch but once you can slide them, there's hardly anything that can be so much fun when the snow is shitty.

the best advice i had was from smiley nesbitt at sms last summer...think of it as if you are jumping onto a skateboard...lean too far foward, you eat shit...lean too far back, you eat shit

/\ thats a fuckin killer idea. run and jump onto a skateboard dude. youll get a sense of how your stance should be. after that just man up and hit a rail.

and i awoke, and faintly bouncin round the room, the echo of whomever spoke.

wow yeah thats a genius way of putting it.

'I heard that Richard Gere gerbils. That is, he inserts gerbils into a paper towel tube, which he then sticks up his butthole. I don't doubt this, because he asked me if i wanted to come over to his house and gerbil. I insisted that he come over to MY house, since the whole thing seemed weird. As a practical joke, i attached a bucket of water to the top of the door so that when he opened it, I beat him with a mannequin leg.'-Skydaddy
