I want to learn how to play acoustic guitar. How much should i pay for a guitar and what should i look for in one? also, how long would it take to be able to play a few songs?

Anywhere from 100 to 300 dollars, look for a clean tone with not a lot of excess string noise.

And it might only take a few weeks before you can play a song that has a few chords depending on your background in music.

yeah, I also suggest practicing very thoughly, slowly, and the basic.

Learn scales, chords, as well as music theory. It really depends on where you want to go with the guitar, but It will make you a lot better if you start practicing correctly.

Dude this is what I got not too long ago

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=10&TempID=1&STRID=20728&Method=3&CategoryID=673&BrandID=1313&PriceRangeID=0&PageNum=1&DepartmentID=1&pagesize=10&SortMethod=2&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode=

it has a great tone when you buy the daddario lights or dean markleys or ernie ball earthwood...i suggest all LIGHT...but it's all personal taste..

but i wouldnt spend anything over 150 bucks on your first acoustic because when you take it to college or if you're already in college, it will get destroyed and if any "beverages" spill on it, you wont care

goodluck and stick with it

i got an acoustic for 115 and it sounds really nice....Its a Johnson...yess i nkow it sounds funny but very nice sounding...get one with the cut out because its easier to hit the higher notes

as long as your new to the guitar game get a shitty cheap one.

and also, what do you want to play? if you just going to learn your favorite rock songs and play them to impress your 15 year old girlfriend, just go to tab sites and get tabs from there. if you want to be a real musician, i suggest you learn all of your chords and all of your scales in every key. dont b scured.

I just want something to do to chill out after work. If i had a 15 year old gf i'd probably be in jail. unless i didn't get caught.

i got an 800 dollar dean mother of pearl electric acoustic for 350cdn. You can always get deals and such. You best bet, when you go buy your guitar negoiate your guitars price on taking a month fo lessons at the shop. your guitar will be cheaper and getting a pro to show you the basics off the bat is keya nd helps out so much. self taught is more time comsuming and if you can get over the initial hump of finger placement and rythme quick then your guitar playing experience will be way better.

look for a guitar that doesnt have string which chatter after strumming them. allwyas get a steal string and trry and find a cut out. dont go over 200 bucks.

people always told me to take lessons but i think theyre a waste of money. i can learn much faster on my own and that i fucken did. playing 8 minute songs and shit now

dude, buy a washburn d10 i believe they are around 130. Great guitar. Also, lessons help if you interested in anything other than fucking around with your friends playing. Otherwise, tabs are your friend. Go to www.mxtabs.net and ultimate-guitar.net (i think thats right)

I just got a new crafter. Has the most gorgeous sound and not too challenging to play compared to my old acoustic.

Didnt break the bank either

back when i was playing a lot, i would always go to olga.com or whatever it is. they have lots of free tab and charts and shit. it's a good start!

I know a lot of people think you should get a cheapo guitar when you start but I dont think thats right.

If your serious about wanting to play, then you really shouldnt skimp out, a good guitar is something you'll have for years and years and years, so its worth paying a little extra in the begining. I got a $400 Takamine and if for no other reasons, it made me play because I felt bad if I didnt after spending that much haha.
