Lazy park staff

Man, I just have to bring this up...

The frontpage poll currently is about how good the park staff at your mountain are.

I find it unreal that 27% of them are described as "absolutely the laziest bastards I've ever seen in my life."

I mean really, the three positive answers there are the first ones, which only make up for 51% of park staff. So this means that 49% of all park staff out there either don't exist or suck ass.

Personally I think this says something. Park staff need a kick in the ass that they have a job to do. Currently its seeming like the government workers would get more votes for quality of work than most park staff.

foreal i ski at one of the shittiest places in ohio they set someting up and don't maintain it for like 3 weeks i went to hit a c-rail once and the shit fell over when i got on

i dont think the place i ski at even has a park staff, the groomer will do it in the morning then everything goes to shit

kick in the ass? naaa.. you need to hire based on how well they handle a shovel and rake not on how well they ski the park. Hire the out the work to latino landscaping laborers and train them on what to do, and don't give me the bull that they have to be experienced with jumps and landings.. ok hate away! LOL!

I kind of agree. I heard those jobs get a huge ammount of applicants. If they arn't willing to work hard then fuck them. Get somebody who will.

they should limit the amount of chairs the park staff have access too... id suggest 1 chair, make them all fight for it... at least they'd have to work for something.

i must say, the wv park staff kills it pretty hard. the german is always raking, elements change all the time, shit is ALWAYS well put together. so wv bigups for that one.

seriously some parks are just made at the beginnig of the season and almost never touched after

I totally agree that park crew should be hired on how they actually maintain the park, and not how good they are or their "bro" status. Meadows could have one of the best parks on the west coast if the park crew wasnt so lazy.

well double props to you!! I have mad respect for my crew and you too. You know what I am talking about.

at my mountain they are the laziest bastards ever, we have a very short season here in Chile and this year we had the luck that we had a lot of snow so i was expecting the best park ever made here, insted they used almost all of the snow in building a boarder cross for school races and they didn't add anything new from last year and all the money they had for this year was wasted on one big rail that only like 5 pro snowboarders can do and the rest to their own pockets, no new boxes or anything, and when they need to be working they are either drinking beer or just sitting down somewhere but not in the park and if you dare to go fix a jump with your own shuvel or anything they get mad at you.

last year sugarbush's park was terrible. First of all, I heard the park manager was a fromer alpine racer which was easy to believe because all the jumps were more of a roller than a kicker anyways. Also, the park had no fucking flow to speak of, the landings were always bombed out, and the run in's to the rails, boxes, hits etc were usually washed out by retards snowplowing over them and then never fixed. Anyways, yeah, that kind of turned into a rant.

I'm hispanic. I have no problem w/ mexians and shit working on the mt as long as they do a good job. Shit you could be blind and one arm'd w/ a peg leg as long as you do a good job.

HA! get a load of this. At my mountain our park staff consists of 4 snowboarders that go down and rake the jumps... thats it. I asked them once, can you guys fixed the landings a big or the lips? And they responded, were not allowed too.

what i find kind of amazing is sometimes not that the park crew is lazy... more is the lack of putting things up.. I'm sure it's harder to be on the otherside of things, but when I know a mountain has 100 rails and i see 4 flat rails up I get kind of confused as to why there isn't more setup.

yea they are cool people as people, but they are extremely incompetent when it comes to designing and maintaining a park. They wasted the season and snow away. 500"+ of snow... and they squandered it.

My park has 3, 10-15 ft jumps and three rails, one rail they made the other they like stole and another they got from some snowboarders we dont have a park crew the owner is a grumpy old hag and if anyskier asks to build something they say no and then they give all the shovels to random snowboarders that have never made a jump in their life.

avila has a good park staff in my oppinion, jumps are alays in good condition and rails are sloid and well kept. doug i know you ski there so do you agrre or disagree

My park staff gets lazier as the year goes on. Really good in beginning, pretty bad in end. Sometimes, they just ramdomly destroy shit thats good, but keep the bad stuff.

yeah we have one person that is the manager/park crew that grooms the run everyday which is bs cause the jumps are never nice and the park changes about 2 times a year

unfortunatly my vote for lasiest basterds i have ever met was true...there are some who actually do things. buti most dont. after a feature is put in....dats it...there are like trenches deeper than world war II and lips that are not existant onto rails and there are like 4 boarders all riding the park...with park warden jackets on...a matter of fact the onyl real work that i have seen done infront of me is done by skiers.(2 people)

The problem might lie more in the people voting rather than the park crew. I think it would be really hard to satisfy hundreds of teenage boys that need everything perfect and instantaneously. Of course there are some lazy park guys, but I think that for the most part people are really demanding.

Sometimes it isn't the park staff though, lots of times the mountain managers are to blame. They hire park staff that are really creative people and can make some cool features, but the managers don't ever give them anything to work with. They never give the park staff the right budget to do what they need to do to make a sick park. The managers can be shits too. At my mountain that was the case.

At my mountain (hole in the ground)the park staff does absolutely nothing. We need to build the jumps up to the 3 rails in the park, and they don't even let us use shovels, and when we bring out own then they freak out on us. They tried to make a pipe this year, but they only cut it once a month... and they didn't know how to use a dragon so it didn't matter.

Uh, we dont have a park staff. The skiers/ snowboarders are the park staff. Sure, one of the lifties will occasionally fix a kicker, and the groomer dude does keep the table in good shape, but the majority of the time, I find myself and others bringing shovels on the lift to fix things.

My park staff can be seen chilling out on the bench drinking and getting high...

They still manage to keep the park in tip top shape though, so props to them

My staff is pretty good, except their pipe. Dear god, that thing sucked so bad last year. But the jumps weren't bad, but they only put up the small rails, and not the big ass battleship.

veryone go to gore mmountain or west mountain. gore has like 5 people on park crew. only 1 kid actually does work.

west mountain.... well....lets just leave it at that

my mountain has no park staff. u have to make jumps and set up the couple rusty rails they got, with very little snow, if any.

word, we get the most snowfall on the westcoast yet are park crew refuses to set up rails. As steeze said they just place them off to side it the trees. And I hardly ever see any of them out during the day doing any work. Occaisionally I'll see them in the morning marking off the lips and landings.

yeah, eric you forgot to mention that it's not a pipe it's a hole thats really long, and this year some snowboarders brought a shovel and tried to make a hit and they got in crap

haha yea you have to have a park to have a park crew...what west has is more like an area with some metal in the snow

mt creek has a pretty solid park crew and they r all maddd chill 2, the jumps usually r in good condition and the rails r always great

Stevens Pass, WA. Laziest bastards ever, I swear they only work on features if someone's written in a complaint.

i'm going to have to say that breck has THE best park staff in all of north america... while i have not been to every mountains around i can say that i can't really recall anytime the park wasn't in prime condition

ok my mountain takes the cake. we have 5 usable rails because the cat drive found a way to run over all the good ones. out of the 5 rails 2 are open cuz they never set the rails in the right way. we have 5 boxes onlt 2 are cleanable. we have 1 decent jump thats likea 40 footer with no pop so ur like 8 feet off the ground. mr bishop please email jiminy peak resort and tell them how to make a good park. because theres sucks. and our pipe is over vert

i definitely agree that this is a huge problem at a number of ski areas, but i also know that it goes deeper than just the park crew being lazy. upper management almost always are the ones to blame for a crappy, unmaintained park. let's face it, if you don't have the resort backing you, and you're the park crew, there's only so much you can do. so if this is a problem at your mountain, and you want to change something, that's the place to start...
