ok here you go guys.

for those who dont speak french.

this is a revolutionary event.

it mix freeride and freestyle.

you have to go down one of this gnarly face in tignes. but there are some kickers in it so you have to throw some tricks.

among the competitors :

tanner rainville.

manu gadet (freerider. many time world champion)

richard permin(who does a 900 to pow landing)

fabien maierhofer

kaj zarickson (another amazing freerider)

laurent favre

i think it is uber cool that freeriders and freestyler ride together.

enjoy !!!

that was cool but i think it woulda been better if it was like this

huge powder steeps like it was, but then as soon as you get closer, the pow stops and becomes groomer into a huge kicker, not just a little one. seemed like they had some trouble getting enough speed

the k2 back 9 event is still the ultimate, but i like how lolo's event was more freeride orientated.

keep 'em coming please- these events are the bomb

yeah thats a dope contest but i agree that maybe have it be powder steeps to groomed kicker or even a little slopestyle course

it was a pretty awesome, especially for the first time they tried it... the full report for NS will be up shortly.

pity about the zone being tracked out but you can't hold it against people for wanting pow... i've skied that face a few times and i could barely stand after. for those guys to charge it and then hit a couple of booters (especially richard permin's 9) without stopping is pretty damn impressive...

Lame...Anyone can land on a groomed landing.....Landing switch in POW shows who can handle it and who cant....That is why it is a BC event not a slopestyle....

bah you are a just a stupid hater.

this is the first comp of that kind.

the idea of having big moutain riders competing with freestylers, skiers and snowboarder at the same time is something realy cool.

maybe the kick werent perfect, and the slope had been trashed or whatever, but hey, don t you understand that this is a whole new concept ?

that having kaaj zarikson competing versus tanner rainville is great ?

maybe the organisation had its flaws but it will become better and better.

you are just too dumb to see the good points of that event

fuck you and don t hate on laurent and the job he did. he is doing so much for the sport.

what did you do for the sport ? hmmm wait for it. nothing.

you are just a dumbass kid who spits on others job.

go rot in hell :)

i hope we see that kind of contest more often.

sure it's a new concept, but that doesn't mean it's a good one. why is a big mountain skier competing with a park skier inherently great? they're apples and oranges--you can't compare them in a contest. look what happens: the big mountain guys rip the upper section and then do beater 3s and backflips, and the park guys make hesitant turns down the upper section, and then throw down on the kickers. how do you decide which is better?

i'd like to see park skiing and big mountain come together just like everyone else does. i was there for the early days of freeskiing, before the hard divisions between park and big mountain were made--when Kreitler, McConkey, and later Sage and Chris Collins were pushing both fronts. i want to see more well-rounded skiers like mark abma, pep fujas, and nick greener more than you possibly could. but it's clear to me that contests are not the way to produce skiers like that. instead of dumping money on events like the Lolo invitational or the Back 9, I'd rather see sponsors put money into film projects like Idea.

your overall message is right but you should present it in a less violent manner. it is great that the likes of manu and kaj were in the same comp as t.rains and richard permin, but it is clear that this type of comp needs fine tuning a little so that it isn't quite so obvious who's a freeride tour competitor and who's a jibber...

why do they have the be mutually exclusive? sponsors putting money into film projects is great and essential, but it's not the same thing and doesn't get them the same results. for the resort and sponsors, an event like this gets them a different kind of buzz than a film segment.

laurent favre and the other organizers aren't fools. you can bet that the next version will blend the big mtn and freestyle more seamlessly. with a bit of time, i can see an event like this having candide invitational style features dotted all over the mountain. yeah, this time around they were just booters at the bottom... big deal. learning experience. look at the first time resorts put parks out.

this is a genuine question; why is it so clear to you that contests like this are bad and don't do anything to help park and big mtn come together?

They're not intrinsically bad. I like what they are trying to do. But I think there are better ways to make park skiing and big mountain come together. If you took all of that money from the Back 9--the huge amounts spent on the big purses and the helicopter hours--and you put that into underfunded projects like Idea, I think you would get more bang for your buck. You would see the fusion of big mountain and park skiing happen faster. Contests are for displaying skills, not cultivating them. Maybe a barrage of events like the ski tour would work, but big mountain freestyle isn't where half-pipe skiing is. Imagine the ski tour five years earlier, when halfpipe skiing wasn't ready for the x-games. it wouldn't have been worth it.

No new concept is perfect right off the bat, ESPECIALLY when you are relying on something completely out of your control, such as snow and weather conditions. so i thought this event laid a sick foundation...give it a couple of years and this could be sick. great show lolo!

Wait so this is a comopetition that mixes freestyle and backcountry....

Cough Back 9 Cough

same concept different format.

I like the idea but this was jsut a big mountain comp with two lame kickers at the end.

I think what would be sick would be like a competition where it takes place at like an intricate cliff line with many lines and drops and chutes of all different kinds (but still it is a small area). And set up on and around the cliff are jumps and rails and wallrides and whatnot. The rails are set up to use the cliffs like a cliff drop to rail or a rail to cliff drop or whatnot. And its like a rail jam/big air/big mounatin all in one. And the format is very jam like so it can be watched from the bottom.
