Last year to hit Chad's Gap and Pyramid

so this is finally actually going to happen? never though it would, fuck. Who the fuck cares about chads and pyramids, were going to lose so much awesome BC. fuck fuck fuck fuck. this is bad, very bad. and fuck the canyons gondola too. LCC is just fine the way it is, these changes are only going to make it more of a shit show. Im calling everyone of those assholes.

everything ive read is about canyons and ski link....... havent read anything "official" about Grizzly. so idk what your source is for that? (im not saying you dont have inside info, just that everything in the news doesnt mention it)

BTW that utah adventure journal had an interesting idea by Mr Mclean. a true euro style train connection would be pretty cool IMO. (ive read about the idea before in ski mag)

Maybe they can have a "Chads Gap" contest every year!!! If they are going to make it a part of the mountain, make it part of a contest.. HELLO; ANYONE LISTENING??

alright dont turn this into a political showdown. if you had money you would understand the republican view. dont hate them because you cant be them. earn a living and youll realize why rich people want to protect they money they earned.

"After Tanner Hall's infamous crash, the Alta ski patrol attempted to

destroy the jump with avalanche charges. The wedge was so solidly

crafted, however, that it barely budged when the blasts went off. Not

only did it resist the destructive power of the explosives, but it also

didn't melt over the subsequent summer."

I guess it never really was fully blown up...

Guys, don't worry Chad's Gap has been relocatedhttps://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/651591/

Take it straight to the resorts and to the government representatives. there has to be thousands of people that would support fighting this bill.

I live in Maine and I think this sucks. So much awesome terrain about to get developed Just too make money. It could be worse though they could be building houses and clearing all the trees. I don't agree with what's happening at all but at least it's a ski resort and not a walmart

any validity behind this? because i've actually done the research and heard the case studies...alta is NOT interested in snowboarders as long as it is something they are investing in or putting their name on.

i have so many thoughts running through my mind about this...

my biggest one is how the hell these threads keep coming up in ns. why are these supposedly "top secret" meetings being exploited on ns?! just seems really weird that this is the first we're really hearing about something like this and not on our local news. just saying...

I think he was implying that:
1) Republicans are much more likely to take the corporate side on an issue like this without fully evaluating the environmental effects
2) These representatives are told these projects "will create thousands of jobs" and "bring in millions annually" and get completely blinded by these theoretical economic gains (and the money put in their pockets) without doing any real research whatsoever.
3) The four representatives introducing this bill are ALL republicans.
Fact of the matter is, all of these representatives have all been BOUGHT by ski areas and their parent companies. There's a reason this bill is getting pushed through in a matter of weeks, while other proposals have sat on the table for years with no progress. Not saying republicans (as a party) have any more integrity then democrats when it comes to caving to corporate lobbying, but this state is run by them, and they are 100% responsible for this.
This really isn't in the public interest whatsoever, and I bet at least 80%-90% of the skiers/snowboarders in this state are opposed to this. WRITE TO THESE GUYS AND TELL THEM HOW YOU FEEL.

1. Build lift to chads gap

2. Groom chad gap into massive park jump

3. Make it bigger because speed will be less of a problem

4. ??????????

5. Profit

Its not necessarily that the privilege or hitting Chad's or pyramid is being lost. Yes, it sucks because Chad's Gap is such a monumental piece of newschoolers and the freeskiing community. Its more than just losing these two gaps its taking away the best area in Utah for backcountry skiing.

We just need to do an occupy the BC and not leave like those hippies who live in trees when the deforestation companies roll through.

Honestly, this really isn't that bad. This is going to create more competition in Utah for better ski areas and maybe even the nation/NA. I know it sucks to lose all of this great BC terrain, but at least it's a ski area and it will create jobs and bring more money in. You can't bitch about major ski areas when you're just up the hill from SLC. Hopefully this doesn't pass, but if it does, it's not that bad of a situation.

shits diabolical

but seriously you have to look through this from a congressman's perspective. opening more lifts is a "job creator" and would theoretically be a boost to the local economy. congressmen jump right on that bullshit even if it means the destruction of years of freeskiing heritage. plus, you have to realize that we are a relatively small community so congress is unlikely to recognize our "cause".

I did a report on the enviromental impacts of skiing last year and what I found was not pretty. Ski resorts have expanded over 100% in the last decade or so, but skiing has only increased by less than ten.

NPC = nothern powder circut that the powder turds are allowed to fly in Siver cardiff mineral days snake ect.

The fact that you don't know this speaks to your ignorance chicken little soc mouthpeice

50% of the terrain in the wasatch rarely if ever gets skied.

Shoulders doin well and have contacted all senators and congressional rep to let them know this is bullshit.

So whats your excuse for not skiing and pretending to be a wasatch turn earner know it all?

Ie I'm down with your meessage but you is a fail as a messenger and I seriously doubt you ever tour outside of griz. or the NPC

Nice work snowbombz.

What about the fact that direction of skiing is moving away from dependency on lift access? Our beloved sport is headed into the backcountry, back yards and streets. The proof is in every snow flick released in the last few years.

Utah based companies such as Black Diamond and Backcountry.com have more people on their pro rosters than Alta would end up employing because of the new expansion. We also have startup companies like SLC ski manufacturers Surface and Bluehouse popping up to support this new direction of our sport. Politicians are too short sighted to understand that what is best for this industry at this point is preserving easy access backcountry, with varied terrain. Grizzly Gulch fits this description to a tee. Utah is a more desirable vacation destination because of this unique aspect, and it will only grow. The most likely thing to happen out of this new development is that some bank(s) will land massive loan deal(s) that are more likely to be defaulted against because of the point our friend above highlights: ski resorts have expanded over 100% in the last decade or so, while skiing [industry profits?] has increased by less than 10%.

The present ski resort developments are sufficient to support the growth of the ski industry as it bursts beyond the rope line. Please do not waste taxpayer time and money on supporting unsustainable developments which will have adverse effects on our environment and potentially our economy.

[fucking republicans]

so build the trains and forget about the lifts!

Lifts connecting the resorts wouldn't be terrible. It would suck for sure, and I don't EVER want to see it happen, but it wouldn't be terrible. The biggest problem here is that the lifts, this first Canyons to Soli gondola in particular, are meant to push the ability to develop the wasatch, they aren't there to simply make it easier or reduce pollution.

Do you honestly think THAT many people are going to buy both passes? Or move from one resort to another - especially on a day they are trying to be there early? It would take almost an hour to get to the top of the gondola at the canyons, then you end up at the bottom of Soli... nobody will do that on a powder day. Besides that, would you not have to buy a Canyons pass to get to Soli?

It's not going to even put a dent in vehicle traffic, it's just the first step in loosening the restrictions on our public land so that big resort companies can develop it more.

It's bogus. This needs to stop. I called all my representatives yesterday, I'll call them again next week, etc.

part of this bill or maybe another one is to end that rule.. the resorts can lease and use the land until the snow is gone and then they can use the land for summer activities. its to generate revenue, its good and bad idea for many reason, one of them is that yes its gonna fuck up back country spots.

can someone explain to me how having this gondola that goes from near the top of daybreak at Canyons to Soli parking lot will increase traffic in Canyons side country? besides from gapers having a better view of the side country from a lift I don't see it more accessible. I ask because it's been stated in this thread that the Canyons side country will be more crowded and I don't see it.

I love how all the east coast transplants are talking like they know it. This is not the first time people have screamed doomsday when ski resorts have wanted to expand. In fact almost every time a resort has put in a new lift people freak out. Does everybody love skiing Mineral Basin? guess what when Snowbird wanted to put in a lift back there people freaked out saying that we are destroying the wilderness and the back country will ever be the same.

Again i am not saying we should just open up the entire Wasatch and put lifts everywhere but coming from someone who was born and raised here I do think a interconnect between the resorts is a good idea. And I think something like the CO 5 mountain would emerge for locals because the cost could be offset by a increase tourist draw.

You also can't park at the bottom of Mineral and ski laps down to your car. Mineral was an obvious expansion to Snowbird in my opinion. Mineral was side country, accessed from the lift.

Grizzly/Flagstaff is it's own BC gem. We're destroying the environment regardless... i'm just thinking of it from the recreational aspect.

this should be thought of as an opportunity to go find new more awesome backcountry gaps please. im fucking sick of seeing people hit chads and pyramid in every single movie every single year anyways. it would be nice for some more wanna be backcountry people to have easier access to the gulch... and it leaves our community with the opportunity to move elsewhere and find bigger and better shit. so quit yo bitchin.
