Last weekend mountain is open - GO BIG!

One of my local mountains decided to re-open for one last weekend. I dunno about the rest of you guys, but I'm stoked to try and throw down some new tricks and get some things into muscle memory before the season officially ends.

My goal for this weekend is Flatspin/Flatspin 5's, Front flips (without backseat landing) and 270 offs. Pretty ambitious but fuck it -- the conditions are going to be great and I don't have to worry about being sore/injured and missing weeks of ski time.

If anyone is at Big Boulder, PA this weekend come say whats up and give me some tips because I am literally going to be hucking myself with reckless abandon all weekend long.

These tricks you speak of will actually be easier if you relax and not huck the shit out of them.be excited but stay floaty! shit will happen

jeesh ur rail game is way behind your jump game. Know a kid who can do 4 on pretz 4 and his best jump trick is rode 5

today was my last day riding most likely, last run i was realizing it was the end of the season so i decided to just send it and it resulted in me taking a 450 to flat and getting a minor concussion lol #fuckit #ouch

Yah my rail game is pretty piss poor. I find jump tricks so much easier. I finally am comfortable hitting just about any rail in park confidently but only for regular slides and 90 offs. I can't figure out 270s for the life of me.

Does this mean that you're going to hold off on hucking your shit? This is also my mountains last week so I'm going to huck my shit so long as i don't break any bones.

Naw I went pretty hard yesterday and I'm pretty sore today. My helmet also completely shattered (it was already weakened from a snowboarder landing on it) so I toned it down a little after that. I'll post a video or two later.

Couldn't quite figure the flat spin out but threw some off axis backies and Lincoln's over a 45 footer. Landed a few fronts but also ate shit on my back twice.

And still can't figure out 270 offs what the fuck is wrong with me.

Not sure what you mean by rolling your ankle, but if you are spinning off left, dig the back edge of your leading ski into the left side of the rail to start the spin.

They closed the big park at my mountain last weekend because they didn't wanna run the lift because of $$. hiked up to the park and ended up throwing, flat 3, rodeo 5, and switch and front 4s.

No, thats a good way to eat shit. Lift up your lead edge and scissor it in the direction you want to spin and then look over your shoulder.

Here's a couple videos from the day. Sorry no video of off axis backflip or front flips -- I wasn't comfortable throwing them off this jump yet. Shitty quality on 2nd Lincoln Loop video but I thought it looked pretty cool regardless.

PS: I've never done a "carve-in" to a jump. How much harder would it be to turn a Lincoln Loop into an Underflio? I feel comfortable enough throwing the Lincoln's that I think I wanna try an underflip but I don't want to carve in and completely go off axis or off the side of the jump or something.

I was just watching some edits yesterday and I noticed that people were initiating the 270 offs prior to the end of the rail -- like they were starting to spin in whatever direction they were going so that when they actually "POPPED" off the rail, they only needed another 180'-200' of rotation or so. I don't know why it took me so long to notice that, but it was similar to the way it took me forever to notice that people initiate their 360s prior to popping off the lip of jumps (like you start to turn your upper torso in the direction you want to spin).

So is that the tip I was missing? It would appear so, because I was trying to pop off the rails while being perfectly perpendicular to them and doing a full 270' rotation in the air. Also, here's a cool montage I just put together of my backie on Saturday.

Sorry for the bumps but I think it's better than making a new thread.

Finally landed *A SINGLE FS 270 OFF.* It felt so simple and easy in the moment but I wasn't able to recreate it. I didn't try that many, but I tried enough that I should have landed 1 or 2 more. I think I am having trouble dropping my heel and initiating the spin while still on the rail. It happens kind of fast and I can't drop the heel and set the spin before getting to the end of the rail.

Also got really close on my front flips. Here is a video if anyone has some tips on getting it fully around. Camera angle wasn't great and the kid recorded it vertical like a tard but what can you do.

And so I don't look like a total gaper, a nice Lincoln Loop pic my buddy snagged.

Just send an underflip, seriously. I tried lincolns earlier this year, set it way to hard and went like 1 1/2. Yesterday was the last day skiing for me so I said fuck it, hucked it, stomped it first try and then continued to last about 5 out of 6

Did you take off at a 90' angle to the lip or just carve enough that your momentum will send you into it? And does the last 90' just come around naturally or do you just need to tweak your hips after the Lincoln comes around to land cleanly switch?

@Lockt, thanks man. I was real hungry to learn this year so I'm pretty happy with my progress but I'm never really satisfied. As soon as I learn something, I want to learn something new. Or if I don't stomp a trick as easily/quickly as I think I should, I get pretty frustrated with myself. I'm hoping to spend 2 weeks at MHSSC this Summer so if I do that I think my combined first season progress will be pretty absurd.

I came straight in, no carve, and it comes around easy, no need to turn hips. Theyre hard to spot but easy to land.

landed my first underflips on the last day of the season. think of it as a 90-lincoln-90. the key is really in the pop, and with a good pop the come around sooo easily. such a fun trick.

@Crispy and Tribe,

thanks for the advice. You guys gave me the confidence to throw it this coming Saturday. I'm visualizing it in my head now and it doesn't seem like it will be all that difficult. I think the most important part is gonna be not rushing it, like get a good pop, and while starting my 90' turn to the left simultaneously start throwing the Lincoln downward and when the Lincoln finishes rotating I should be able to see the landing approaching and just have to prepare my skis/upper body for the final 90' turn and landing it clean?

Hell yeah dude, just make sure you don't throw it super hard because you're nervous you wont get it around. You wont under rotate, i promise. Kind of common sense but throw it exactly as hard as you do your lincolns.
