Ok, so I need to get a laptop for next year. I had basically always been set on a macbook pro, but I found out that arch software eats macs and bacon for breakfast.

So I need a PC that is powerful and pretty good quality. Like pretty top of the line, but not really extreme. Suggestions on what computer, or just what to put in it, cause I may end up building one

my school requires the dell m90 mobile workstation for all arch. students, actually i think all students who do serious 3d modeling, like interior and industrial design as well.

im saving for a macbook pro. hopefully its as good of an investment as i hope it will be

but im doublemajoring in graphic design and business

sooooo.,.

go with the dell XPS gen 2 or something. Super clean and powerfull for graphic progs. and brilliant if you want to game a bit too.

It doesn't really matter too much what brand laptop you get. But if you're running arch. stuff, especially 3d, be sure to get one with a dual core (intel core duo is the most commonly used one. I forget what the AMD dual core is called), 1-2 GB of memory, and a pretty large hard drive (~100 GB). You might also want to get one with a decent graphics card too. Dell is nice because you can pick the processor, amount of memory, ect. Otherwise, go to best buy/similar store and tell them what kind of programs you'll be working with. Just don't fall for the "buy our warranty" crap.

never get a macbook, you cant play jibberish! AWWW THE PAIN! My freind has one and it pisses me off......

thanks. I'm looking at that one actually. I'll probably get that, or maybe just get one built that is similar

i was actually just down at uva talking to a bunch of kids at the arch school and of those i talked to agreed that both mac and pc work fine for all the programs they need to run its just really which ever you are more comfortable dealing with. and who ever said dual core and a lot of memory... yeah.
