hey so im looking to pick up a laptop for college over the summer and im looking for some suggestions or recommendations on what to purchase.

im going to school for graphic design so ive been looking macs, but what other options do i have other then mac?

get a macbook pro. they last a long time, apple is very good with fixing problems (if you get applecare, which although is expensive, i highly recommend you get), and they're just good computers overall.
i currently use a mac, but its 4 and a half years old, so i'm getting a mbp for next year cause i also am starting college and am doing a media program as well.

i would get a low/medium-class pc in the 600-800ish range. they are solid and 1 year ago, pcs with the same hardware were about 1200 or so.

you dont need a hightech weapon to run photoshop or other programs. and the best thing with such a "cheaper" pc is that you can easily buy a new one in two years. imo the better solution as buying a 1400 $ laptop and have to use it 4+ years.

gateway makes sick pcs and because they arent a huge company they often sell them for less than the equivalent of their product....i got my gaming laptop from gateway and it was only 980 and runs any game on best resolution and has the best graphics card on the market...the comparison of my laptop was like 1400 dollars so its awesome.

graphic design?

derp!

the cheapest mac you can get is 1000$ so if you were to spend 1000$ on a pc that would probably have at least two or more processors bigger hard drive and macs just started to have two processors in them and they are going to be around 1200$ for a nice mac it all depend on what you are willing to spend on both are great computers

Alienware but they are more for gaming but are really good. they are made by Dell i'm pretty sure

im a graphic designer and i use a sony vaio and love it. i also use coreldraw though as my program which isnt really available on macs.

If you are doing anything besides art stuff, dont get a Mac. You don't have to fit in and be hipster. Just get an Asus or a really nice Dell xps. Those are the good laptops that you should get

check with your schoolthey will tell you what you need for minimum specs etc. and if it needs to be mac or pc for the programs you will usealso, many schools have discounts. You like punch in you student id at the company's education website and you get a good deal and it sometimes comes bundled with your software
worst thing would be getting an expensive computer and finding out that its incompatible
other than that, macs are much more reliable and resourceful (use less power to get stuff done), and they have ridiculously long battery lifes - just things to consider with the hight price

No. I spent upwards of $4000 on an M9750 three years ago and it was the worst computer I have ever used. The only good thing about it was that I was able to sell it for $2000 the next year and buy a MacBook Pro.

lol. I think this is the one thing I do not disagree with you on Gnartron. Maybe for once we are allies.....

eheath stop trying to get him to guy your laptop. Any way i would go with a Gateway P series they are amazing

only retards get viruses. ran pc all my life never had problems except when i was young and retarded

yes there is more malicious software for PC but i have never had a problem

i got a HP dv7 laptop with an intel core i5 processor(2.26ghz, 4gig RAM) and nvidia Geforce 230m(1gig) and 500gig hard disc memory and HDMI port

for 700 euro a year ago(now probably equivalent = 700dollar)
it has great built-in speakers, it has an excellent webcam and microphone, it has a very sharp screen, long battery life, looks sweet and it runs sony vegas pro and other programs simultaneously without a problem (editing 1080p and 720p60fps without a problem)
so i could highly recommend it!

i still find mac excellent computers, but theyre just so damn expensive and i don't find that worth double the price of my pc.....

definitely a mac there super good with graphic design/creative/artsy programs and stuff like thatand also u get a free ipod with one if ur buying for college

graphics program is vague, but regardless, this graphics=macs thing is tired. Save money, get a wicked laptop, and use the saved money for better programs (unless of course you have infinite cash money).
Sony vaios with i7 are usually pretty solid deals. Good price, good laptops, wiiiiiiiiiicckkkkeeedd fast, more hardware than you can use (for the time being). i5 for $700 range - fucking sweet. i7 with all kinds of shit for about $1k. You would pay more than twice that for a comparable mbp. Fucking stupid if you ask me.
