Laptop for school

hey everyone, I need to get a laptop for school. I need it for video/photo editing 90% of the time, but I also need a decent office program with word processing powerpoint, etc. and some internet capability (i.e. Newschoolers, school research &c.) as well as casual music listening. I like the Macs alot, I really like the garage band feature and the built in media features, but I need something pretty affordable. I can spend max. $2000, but the lower the price, the better. I am a total noob when it comes to computers. Any suggestions/info. would be appreciated.

by the way it's college I need it for. Right now i don't have a computer. Have to use the school ones which aren't always acessible.

go with a mac powerbook, and get final cut, best editing computer and software, hands down period, end of thread your welcome apples are incredible for video and they all have firewire unlike some PCs

and i think the powerbook purchase comes with a ipod nano (the new ones) or a ipod classic i'm not sure

that's cool, thanks. do you know how much the powerbook retails for? can you get final cut included in the package, how much extra is it for that? anything about final cut in comparison with Adobe photoshop CS2? Thnaks again for the feedback though.

yeah, i have never heard of final cut before, except in passing, so I have no idea what it is, but I have used Adobe Cs2 and I like it. Also, the graphic desing computers on campus are macs, so I guess it would be better to get soemthing compatible? or not much difference?

I have had my MacBook pro for about a month and I have seriously loved it. I thought that it would be harder to transition to a mac from a PC than it really has been. If you are looking for a laptop that you can be able to edit on, you wont find a better machine once you put Final Cut on it. It is able to take whatever you through at it. It definitely wont regret it. A little pricey, but the sting fades quickly.

yeah im a film major and my school uses avid...i didn't like that program to much, and i hated adobe premiere on my pc..pretty much the only reason i bought a macbook pro was so i could use final cut pro. it has saved so many headaches. I've ran final cut, photoshop, itunes, word, and firefox all at the same time before and it still performed.

uhhh pretty sure final cut and premier pro are pretty damn similar...one isnt better than the other. a mac would probly fit what you are looking for, but you could get a pc that does the same stuff for cheaper probly...

someone in my res building bought a $4000 mac with custom settings or something and it broke in the first week he had it...not sure what ahppened, but that kinda made me think about it......

go macbook with final cut and get office. office can go on 3 computers too so if you ever for some reason got another computer or needed it for something else you could use it. or if anybody you know has office you could bum a serial number for it off them...
