Lapel mics? Anyone used them before?

Ehh...

So I am in the process of working on doing some wedding videography for a friend. I really want to record the speeches and not have them sound like shit. So I was thinking of getting some lapel mics and clipping it on to him but I have never used sound like that before?

Anyone have some insight on this kind of thing?

At a wedding lapel mics are a nuisance for those having to wear them.

Good to know, because I have yet to use them before. What would you recommend for picking up audio on someone giving a speech via a mic from a DJ/Emcee that doesn't sound like shit. I will be using a rode but I feel it doesn't pick up the person speaking enough.

And with nuisance I mean mostly the procces of having to put them on and then theyare either strapped to a really long wire or they have a black box hanging on them which can be a sturggle with dresses, and unless you get touchy feely and manage to hide them wires will get in the way.

If they use a mic get a Zoom and tap straight into the audio console.

If they speak by voice, place a Zoom with directional mic near them, preferably pointed at the speakers.

In regards to the Zoom - most of the time they will be using a mic without a doubt. Are you meaning like tape the zoom to the microphone or have it a stand nearby? Most of the time they will pass the mic so the zoom will have to be moved constantly.

No, jack it into the audioconsole that takes the audio of the mic and pumps it out of the speakers.

Oh so the soundboard/Mixboard. That is a really good idea because my roommate is doing the DJ'ing.

This will be the best way to get audio through a PA system. I'd do that and run a shotgun on your camera as a backup.
