Lance Armstrong to return for 2009 Tour de France

im pretty sure your thinkin of micheal phelps or kobe bryant.... not kobe but still Phelps is amazing

well i mean it would be embarrassing if he came close to last or dropped out.

but i doubt thats gonna happen, he had to have thought this out. And a tour rider normally trains for it for about a year, so hes known he was going to do this since july at least. (I read in one of his books that he starts training for the next tour a few weeks after it ended)

"a mountain bike race"...

it's the Leadville 100... that's not just any mtn bike race, but one of the most brutal mtn bike races on the planet.

kobe- lol. dont get me wrong, im actually a big kobe fan, but if we're talking b-ball, its mj all the way.

phelps, i agree what he did was impressive as hell. but i dont know if winning a bunch of events in a one-week period is comparable to utter domination over 7 years. one of the all time greats, though, for sure.

well we all know why lance has won all the races. because he has less wind resistance then everyone else. one less testical means less wind resistance. so that is why he has won so many. or he could just be a fucking machine

wow, maybe this means he's not doping. I figured he got out just in time since the next tour everyone got busted, but if he's coming back now when he has nothing left to prove, maybe he is just a natural freak of nature.

yeah but phelps did break world records in almost all of them.

and to armstrong i personally think that he's a douche bag.

he did leave his wife and kids for some country singer once he became famous.

yes i have herd about livestrong, and know that it is for cancer research,

but leaving the wife who supported him during his cancer is pretty low.

I think he could win. He's just so dominant. Every time he races every one else is racing for 2nd place. It's been 2 years so that changes things obviously but I don't doubt that if he trained hard enough he could do it.

I'm sure that the tour de france people love that idea. The last couple years Armstrongs been absent it doesn't seem to have been quite as popular among americans at least.

i read his autobiography, its more complicated, at least from his view. he hates the press, the whole famous thing hasn't really changed him that much since most of it has been french dicks. again im going from the autobiography.

haha, dude, everybody on the tour was doping, I bet Lance was too. As a cyclist, he is overrated compared to some other all time greats, namely Merckx. nobody can compare to Eddy as a cyclist. It pissed me off when lance won greatest athlete on some ESPN poll and Merckx didn't even get a mention, even though if you ask any real cyclist, they will give Merckx the all time best award hands down no comparison. I am still stoked if he rides though because it will bring more awareness to cycling in the us. and it definitely needs more awareness and participation. around here maybe 15-20 people show up to watch Crits or cyclocross.. Track racing is huge amongst athletes, but no spectators, and as far as spectator events go, fucking track is amazing to watch.

Yeah, i don't think he just up and left her in the dust, it was probably mutual or there's something that we don't know about that ended it.

hahah lmao... hopefully this will bring some much deserved attention to cycling... you gotta give it to them those guys are freaking amazing athletes

We need to sit down and have a talk with all these athletes about the meaning of the word "retire". From now on they should say they are going on an indefinite break.

um..... from that article that you just posted

"The Lance rumors exist already a few weeks," team press officer Philippe Maertens wrote in an e-mail from Spain, where Astana is competing in the Tour of Spain. "We know that he continued training hard after that mountain bike race. He will do some cyclocross races as well in the USA. I cannot tell you more. You better ask him. Lance Armstrong is no part of our team. Team Astana has no plans with him."

yea thats why i posted that. I find it strange how espn, a reputable source, put something up only to put a contradicting article up the next day.

Well, either way, come back or not, I don't care, i just think the tour would be more interesting if he raced

yea thats not what i was saying though. I'm just saying that he himself said he wants to race again, but the astana part of the report from yesterday hasn't been confirmed. He could be involved with any team. I know there's plenty of teams out there that he could compete on.

sick he's coming back....wierd about the astana thing.....it would be nice to see him on an american team anyways.

So we're a few days into the tour and Lance is tied with Cancellara for first. And Contador (who is supposed to be Astana's team leader rather than Lance) is 12 seconds back. I know it doesn't mean much yet but definitely suggests Lance is ready to win again.
