Lag issues (gaming ping)

Im using a d-link router that has been fine for the past 8 months (ping 40-50) but i just opened up a port for my uTorrent which used to download slow (less then 10kb/s on a cable internet) but it now goes at 200kb/s. Really sweet for downloading but my ping online jumped to a steady 120 and its a bitch to play with now.

Any ideas? i've tried reversing my uTorrent but no luck.

i went through a tutorial recently to set up some static IP because im behind a router and im not sure if that had anything to do with it either.

Either way when i set up that shit my ping blows and I cant work on my schools network either (it connects but i cant recieved anything...seems like i might have firewalled myself?)

Downloading Torrents while trying to play a game online will kill your latency every time, its almsot impossible for me to play. There are so many packets flying back and forth the traffic is really high and screws over a lot of internet gaming.

Ah i see, well then the port you opened could still be getting a lot of traffic from it. You should try going in to you torrent program and changing what port it uses and then set it to a different one and try your router on that one, see if it makes any difference.
