Labrador or toggenburge?

im new to western newyork area it will be my first winter here but labrador and toggenburge are the 2 closest mtns to me if im going to get a seasons pass wich one has the better park and is the most fun to ski?
 
togg has been stepping up it's park year after year and there's always a great crew to ride with. plus they have jams frequently, which are always maaaaaddddd fun. do it up.
 
So naturally my position comes with a slight bias, but I'll try to tell it like it is...

Lab has always had a solid park. They owned the CNY park scene for the first 5 years of the millenium. For a couple years they seemed to decline a bit, but came back stronger last season. I didn't get a chance to ride there last year but I heard some good things, which is cool. Lab has the ability to create and maintain a solid park, but at this point it's not known if they are going to improve off of last year or return to their previous drought.

As for Togg, I can promise to you that we have an incredibly talented, motivated, and dedicated park staff for this upcoming season. We've been making positive steps in the past 5 years and are determined to make the best park CNY has ever seen this season. Management has seen the light and is now on board 100% with our cause and we couldn't be more pumped about it. We have a lot of big plans for the upcoming year including new features, the implementation of a park pass program, and a number of sick events (starting with a rail jam and film fest on Oct. 25, see thread for details). So yes, though my opinion is biased, I say check them both out. But I know that I can promise to you that Togg's park is going to be built and cared for by people who are determined to make it a success. Plus if you're in college we have a $180 college season pass available as well as $10 day passes, both insanely sick deals.

nick your so right i love you, but yea ima give you some advice and my reply might be a little biased to because im on park crew for tog, but what nick said was mad true all the park crew members are really involved and take comments and suggestions seriously. We love our park and put so much effort into it like stayin until 4am to finsh the rail jam setup, i used to go to lab and i had alot of good times there but their park and community is nothing compared to toggenburgs.
 
I would say go to Togg. When Nick is in town their park is always top notch for CNY. Sometimes it is hurting when he is away. They usually seem to get their park up faster than Labrador to. Labrador had an amazing park last year. I would say one of the nicest in the east, but I wouldn't except that to continue on this year. The main groomer from last season is moving so except Eric Wilson to make his terrible jumps again. The management at Labrador is also pretty shitty, and after awhile it starts to become very annoying.
 
This is definitely one of our main areas of improvement this year... I hired two more park directors who will be working with me and for me when I'm out of town, Jack Byers and Taylor Kerr. They'll be taking care of business and keeping the park in top shape all season. Really stoked to have them on board. Also, our park crew will be much more organized this season and will be made up of some of the most knowledgeable riders in CNY. On top of all this I only have two words to say... park passes.
 
well i think ill prob be getting a pass at toggenburg when does the season usualy start around here? and do you guys know if they have military discount on seasons passes?
 
if the weather really cooperates most places around here can open as early as thanksgiving, but that's the best case scenario. I would say the average opening day is somewhere around Dec. 10th. As for military discounts I know they have a day pass discount, and I am pretty sure there is a season pass discount. You can give a call at 315-683-5842, someone should be in the office from 10-2 on weekdays.
 
yeaa. togg seems like a mole hill.. not that lab is really big or anything. i just feel like togg is tiny when im there.

I strongly disagree. In years past I have had season passes to all three local hills (Tog, lab, and Song mtn.) and I dare say that on a collective level, I have skied as much of the total terrain among the three slopes as anyone on here. In my opinion , based on characterists of the terrain available to ski, I rate the hills 1.song 2.tog 3.lab. If the lift setup and grooming at Song mtn didnt blow I would continue to get a pass there... but it does so I don't. Between the other two.. once you get a more intimate knowledge of the hills you'd find toggenburg can be a lot more entertaining than lab, and that whatever Lab has more of in length, it makes up for in flatness. Togg on the other hand has more places to duck into the woods, more natural features around the hill to bounce around on. In regards to the park: Song doesn't have one, so don't bother looking for it. Between LAb and Togg some years in the past have been a toss up between the two. Historically, any given day at either hill could be totally awesome, or suck bollucks.
 
I personally dont stray from the park. togg has crappy trails at times but its park is excellent.Lab on the other hand has good trails but its park is crud. its pipe for instance has ice on the the top so you cannot even go off the top. togg doesnt have a pipe. Togg for pipe, lab for trails
 
im not to sure about that man. the woods and terrain at labrador are excellent. when upstate ny has snow lab is always a blast. the far double provides for some good turns on no name and midnight express and the triple chair woods are sick. there are 5 quality tree jibs over there now that we have been hitting for the past few days. the park is real nice at lab right now to. fun down rail to a fun flat box to a low flat rail to a shitty jump to a rainbow box to a 10 foot flat rail.
 
When it all boils down, they're all basically the same. A good time is to be had anywhere on snow. Despite the complete lack of verticalness and meager accumulations we've all come to accept as standard. In relative terms, you can't go wrong at any of these places if you're riding for the love of it like we do here on the East. merry christmas- first laps of the season for me this morning at the burg. peace.
