Laax or Gstaad

Hello Swiss Newschoolers,

I am looking at moving to the Swiss alps this season and skiing your beautiful country. At the moment, I'm looking at Laax or Gstaad. I am looking at moving around the beginning of January. I have just a few questions.

1) How much can I expect to pay for a flat in either of these places? I am not looking for anything extremely nice and would rather live with some roommates if that would cut costs. How much for a 1 bedroom flat? A single bedroom in a shared flat?

2) What advantages do the hills have? It seems like the Gstaad area has a ton of skiable terrain but Laax seems to have a better reputation.

3) Is it possible to get a flat in January once I arrive? I was looking at staying at some of the cheaper hostel accommodations for a few weeks while I look for a place. Rider's Resort looks really nice in Laax and is very cheap as well.

4) I am fluent in English and can read and understand a little French. Would it be possible to get a part-time job? I have a university degree in finance and lots of experience in banking/stock markets.

Thanks so much for the help!

gstaad is more swiss german than french. for skiing its mostly hills and no cliffs.....so really bad freeride. for park you have access to diablerets, which is good.

laax way better skiing, dont know about social aspect though.

gstaad everything is remote, no proper village, ok party at greengo.

but i say verbier is probly the best place to spend a season in the world, its the most international as well.

laxx is by far the best resort to go to if you want good skiing and a good park. verbier gets annoying I find after a moment. but you got to try it sometime
