Hi,I'm coming to Les 2 Alpes in 2 weeks time (27/01 - 05/02) and I'd like to ski La Grave, but I'm afraid I'd not handle doing it and will got lost. Will be someone, of You there, at that time to show me some good lines in La Grave? I know that there is a possibity to ski with a guide, but I do think that skiing with Local rider is better idea.

Bless

I did a season in deux alpes a few years back and there is a strong feeling that you should take a guide in La Grave. It's not a normal place, in fact, I'm sure you know this and it's probably why you want to go! Unless you already have friends who know their way around get a guide.

You got avvy gear?

I have read about La Grave many articles, so that now I'm scared and don't know whether I should go there or not. The problem is in money, I don't have enough to cover the costs of guide and avvy equipment. I had an idea that if I get to La Grave with person who was there, I would'n have to have equipment and also don't have to go with guide. I know that "renting" a guide is very expensiv (320 euro/day), but on the other hand it is priceless when coming to La Grave.Unfortunatelly, as I mentioned, I don't have enough money to make it

I'm not a hundred % sure on this, but I think when you hire a guide the deal includes avvy gear. (anyone who knows more about this please correct/confirm).

Try and get a group to bring the cost down.

Without transceiver etc I think it'll be hard to persuade anyone to go with you as they'd be putting their neck on the line.

Obv I'm not saying La Grave is intrinsically more likely to avalanche than anywhere else, but once you're over the glacier between 2alpes/la grave you're on your own.

However, if you can make this work then go for it! It's a whole fucking mountain of freeride!

I have'nt been there myself, but have a few friends who have. They all went without guide's and said that it was awesome. I guess it depends on snowconditions aswell though, if there is serious avalanche risks it will be much safer to have a guide offcourse. Also you'll probably get to ride better lines with a guide.

I spent a month there and i would highly recommend getting a guide there at least for the first few times you go. There are so many unseen hazards there that unless you already have some really good mountain skills, you definitely could end up having some problems with your route finding. Its a big burly place, i live in whistler now and as big as everything is here it honestly makes it just feel so safe in comparison. You probably would be fine if you did just go lap the vallons and the chancel, but there would still be some risks to an extent, and im sure you

dont want to limit the terrain you can ski. Not to mention your guide will show you so many awesome places there as well obviously. Your going to need avy gear as well, and you really should know how to use it as well. I owned my own so i cant speak on renting it, but im sure you can figure something out. Its an amazing place, i cant wait until the day i can get back there, but its a place that needs respect, so dont just go charging on in there until youre properly prepared
