KT tape?

My knees are fucked from jumping off shit and bad genetics. ive seen a lot of positive stuff about kt tape so I got some and i'm going to use it tomorrow before I go skiing. I put it on tonight and just from walking up and down stairs it doesn't feel like its giving me any extra support.

Anyone use it for skiing or have some advice for it?

Sports tape doesnt do anything. Rock tape and the like are a waste of money. Studies show no benefit in using it.

I wrap my knee with an ACE wrap. My right knee likes to hyperextend and the wrap provides just enough support while maintaining a slightly flexed position. Worls great for medial/lateral stabilization too

dont waste your money on it, it's bulllllll-fucking-shit. i have lax tendons in one of my knees from skiing and my doctor just told me to go to the local sporting goods store and pick up a brace that suits my fancy. just try it on in the store and make sure you can still ski in it and boom you're set. I have a tendon issue so i have a brace with metal supports on the sides so i don't outer-rotate, but whatever works for you. also ice like 20 minutes after skiing, works wonders if you're skiing multiple days in a row

Never tried it for knees but I used to use it for my shoulder and let me tell you I will never recommend it to anyone. Not only did it do absolutely nothing but it gave me some of the worst hives ever. Don't waste your money.

Many people do benefit from it, largely for the proprioception benefits. But a shitty neoprene brace, or ACE wrap(like you have) do the same thing but are much cheaper and have the added benefit of warming the knee and thus decreasing the viscosity of the synovial fluid for a better lubricated joint.

Moral of the Story: OP should rub some dirt on it and cowboy the fuck up.

why do so many chiropractors sell it then? just another way to make some $$$?

People want it. Id sell you air if you were dumb enough to buy it.

A lot of people use it. Many people in my program are serious athletes and they swear by it. To each their own but the research isnt there to support its use.

tbh i have never used it so i cant compare it to my wrap. I do know i can wrap my knee so tight it is almost completely immobilized. I dont think the tape does anything close to that.

yeah, no kidding. like i said, its real benefit is from increased proprioception.

Also, you think your ace wrap works well? give weightlifting knee wraps a try one of these days haha

I have used KT several times, and I would be surprised if it would really give any support to the knee itself. I have seen some people use it to try and make the patella track correctly but other than that I don't see it being much benefit to you OP.

Get this amazing stuff from Oregon called bolt tape. I live and die by it. It has naturals and stuff that rejuvenates and fixes injuries where ever they are. It doesn't hold everything in place, but it heals it up and stops pain.

OP you should really see a doctor to figure out what it is that is wrong with your knee, you could be like me and have a condition in your knee that braces/wraps do not help.

Wow, surprised to see the responses.

I tried some from their trade show booth in vegas, i was blown away how much it helped. My knee was aching like crazy from being on my feet setting up a booth, and it immediately relieved the pain. I left them on for a few days. I was very impressed and have used it a few times skiing under my brace. Is it a cure all? no but it definitely and noticably helps. Also the guy said how it was applied makes a huge difference, so maybe that is the case for those with bad experiences? Either way they were chill dudes from Utah and I was stoked on it.
