KR2 Pro vs. Lupo

Whats good NS,

Before I get any crap for asking for help on picking boots, let me just say that I have gone to several boot fitters (including a genius in Big Sky, go to Grizzly Outfitters if you want the master), and almost all of them have recommended the Dalbello Krypton Series boots.

So I am torn between the KR2 Pro and the Lupo SP.

I am mainly a hard charging big mountain/all mountain skier, living on the east coast. I plan on getting more into the park next season. I go out west once a year for a week, but when I do I spend most of my time in the sidecountry, hiking up to lines. Rubber soles and a walk mode were feature that I really wanted in boots, but I am now concerned about the performance that is lost. Another issue is the more upright stance on the Lupo.

Is there anyone who rides the Lupo who can speak to its performance over the KR2 Pro?

Right now, I have the KR2 Core boots. They're a softer version of the KR2 Pro's. I like them a lot. They have a ton of customizability and I feel like I can get the perfect fit every time no matter what type of skiing I am doing. I have done a few days in the backcountry and I think that it would be nice to have a ski/walk mode and a rubber sole for hiking. Overall, I think that the adjustability of the KR2 might suit you better than the Lupo.

Sam Smoothy who rides for Dalbello and has skied the KR2 Pro for a long time was testing them all NZ season etc and said he can't tell the difference between the 2 when skiing.

don't be concerned with losing performance by going with a Lupo. the difference, if any will be minimal and you probably won't notice it.

if you like to hike, go with the Lupo and add a "B" tongue to give you the stiffness you like. remember, the KR2 Pro has a plug sole so toes and heels can't be replaced. one the Pro is worn down you're basically into a new boot. the Lupo has replaceable soles.

the only real issue with the Lupo over the KR2 Pro is that with the Lupo you can't adjust the forward lean on the boot because of the ski/hike mechanism. if this is a huge issue, go with the KR2 Pro. If not, go Lupo.

Thanks a lot. I wouldn't normally care that the Lupo doesn't have adjustable stance, but because it is set with an upright stance it kind of turns me off.

I personally don't mind the upright stance of the lupo. I've grown to like it. People on TGR were saying that they just put in the bigger spoiler in the back and it pushed them a little more forward, closer to the normal kr2 stance, and they liked it.

Yes. It's not a forward lean adjustment, it's just an extra set of spoilers that are significantly thicker. Boots come with 2 pairs of tongues and 2 pairs of spoilers.

The stock tongues(orange) are softer and I think 120 ish. The black tongues are 130 ish I think. I've got the black ones installed on my boots and love them.

Thanks, that helps a lot.

Does anyone know what are on the bottom of these KR2's? They look like aftermarket rubber soles, do those exist?

Its for walking to from the parking lot to the resort and back. Or when your at the lodge. No on your boot when you're skiing.
