KOS winners.....a little upset

Yes, it was just a really dumb, useless answer. Style isn't something you can divide by two. "I have seven style. How many style do you have?" Maybe you don't like something about his posture on rails, or how he looks absorbing a switch landing. Maybe you don't like how he winds up for spins. I don't know. But saying "he has half the style of others" is... embarassing.
 
I was just too lazy to answer. He flails, he forces his landings way too hard, hucks shit way too much and it looks horrible, happy?
 
he won with multiple tricks, i remember reading his 3 in the finals were switch 10, rodeo 9, and switch 7 dub tail (some of the first seen, which is what set it apart)
 
Ya thats right- how KOS works is that 12 riders in the final get 3 hits each. One has to be a stylie hit (e.g. Permin's sw7 dubtail) and one has to be a tech hit, e.g. Jon's Kang Flip, and the third one can be either. Add best 2 together...

watch how dirty his double is though. holds the grab the entire time. clarke can win the contest with that trick, plus he is steezy as fuck.
 
hornbeck is just so smooth and creative. gus has a big bag, but i just don't like his style that much at all
 
It is hard to explain, but I think that Gus looks like he is trying so hard whenever he is approaching a feature. Kid kills it no doubt, but I always picture him with his jaw clamped and gripping his poles super tight and getting all tense before every trick. I know that sounds stupid, but he looks to me more like a wrestler or football player who skis really well. He is 1000X better than me so I am not dissing his skills. It is just that my personal preference is to watch riders who make things look effortless. Gus might have the biggest bag of tricks of any of those guys in the contest, but none of them look aesthetically appealing to me. Sorry, not trying to hate because the kid is real good.
 
Awesome selections, I think all of them will kill it. Not to say I think any of the other submissions were any less deserving of the spots, all of them like Walkers and Hornbecks were sooo dope too. I would not like to be the one to have to make the selections for invitations. Good luck for sure guys!
 
I think if you asked any of the KOS entrants that didn't make it, they'd graciously tell you they're stoked for the ones that did make it. It sucks Hornbeck didn't get in but at the same time, I'm sure he's very happy for the people that did get in.

 
compare a hornbeck sw 7 or sw 10 to gus, there is no fuckin way you can say gus has more style. gus is very very talented and has a hugeeee bag of tricks but this isn't the fuckin x-games.

i mean watch rich p's part in enjoy, pure fuckin style, those follow cams of his double grabs show it all. i don't see any of that from gus, not taking anything away from the guy but in spirit of the competition i think they could have made a better choice. i'm happy for all the winners but i hope this doesn't turn into a doubles contest, keeping doubles and sw 12's out is what makes this competition different from the others and frankly much more enjoyable to watch
 
well if they use the same format as last year (stated above) then every rider wont be allowed to just do a double for all of there jumps. i am almost positive that all of the guys that won would really like to do there doubles, depending on the jump and such. i think if the dubs are kept more double cork, less flippy (like PK's) then they are sick as helllllllll. i think hornbeck walker and amrtini all deserve to go as well. shitty there are only 4 spots!
 
Is style actually going to be a big factor for this? I know it is King of Style but I read somewhere that is just the name of the comp and not what they are actually judging, I really don't know a lot about KOS.

I dont think this is about being a loser, or a winner, its just subjective to what the judges wanted to see.

how about instead of hating on the successful, we just say, "wow all those entries were at least a little sick, and I cant wait to seee how these guys improve and push for next season."

Each person is determining style from an individual perspective here. I'm super bummed that Hornbeck didn't make it, he definitely deserves more than what he has got from skiing.
 
to me i think Gus has great style

the only reason it doesnt look as smooth is because his body isnt drenched in XXL outerwear

cause if you think about it when you see wallisch/henrik/hornbeck any of them when they are wearing not as baggy clothing its doesnt look as good IMO
 
wallisch, walker, hornbeck and clarke would have been my choices if i were the judge. they all have smooth, style, unique style, and natural style. to many skiers these days are getting style confused with showing control over their tricks and they just look like robots (i wont metion names). style is something that u just have or dont.
 
i hope this helps but... it was said early on that submissions were not chosen because of who has the best popular style or edit. with that known and how the comp. is run, can you blame the judges for picking out the people who appeared to have the biggest bag of tricks and could stomp them very easily? gus may have a different style, but it isn't bad. its almost precise like he can stomp anytime, anywhere. just my two cents on why he was chosen. again they wheren't chosen based on style alone, that was actually a very small thing to be considered.
 
i disagree. i think everybody has style, and everyone has there own personal opinion on what styles they like and what styles they dont. i also like your 4 choices, i love all those kids and they all deserve to go, hands down.

idk i think everyone is trying to have the same style in skiing nowadays. everyone is trying to land as smooth as possible and afterbang to make their tricks look good. some just make it look more natural than others, and some dont even need to. these are the riders i like to watch, the riders that u can recognize just based on style alone. i guess ur right about everyone having "style" some people just have better style than others
 
yea...this is what im hoping skiing gets away frpom. everyone jsut needs to let there own style flow, if you force it, it doesnt work. and in all seriousness, i think afterbangin is hilarious, i love wallisch and hornbeck and love watching them ski, but when i see them bangin shit so damn hard, i actually laugh, but that might be because i know hornbecks laughing too hahaha.
 
exactly, which is why a "style" competition is so hard to judge. Someone could think someone's style is shit, while others think it's the sickest style they've seen

god guys stop hating on gus. he did TWO fucking sick different doubles. He and coscos edits were the best entries. hornbeck didnt get robbed. he was steezy or wahtever but his tricks weren't as good as the ones that qualified.
