KOS winners.....a little upset

could it have been more predictable? like i know all those entries were sick but there were some other good ones.

It must have been so hard to choose .. really cool that they chose 4 to attend. Excellent choices.

yea Gus gets a lot of hate...prob because hes young and people think....hell i dont really know why Gus gets so much hate he slays

exactly. he's a really good skier, but I can name at least three other submissions that should have come before him based on the grounds of "style".

Hornbeck brought the style but not the same level of tricks.

Yes I realize it's called king of style.

Judging discrepancies will exist no matter what, I think the four they chose were pretty solid; it would have been so hard to judge.

Even though it's called King of Style, it's just another big air contest. The same criteria are going to be used to decide a winner. It'll probably come down to who has the cleanest gnarly double. Even though Hornbeck, Walker, + Martini might be more stylish riders, none of those guys have any chance of winning a big air against the four that were chosen. Wallisch, Gus, Cosco, and Clarke all have gnarly doubles.

Hornbeck, Walker, Martini (and some of the other guys who entered videos were sick as hell too) are super progressive and deserve just as much respect, but you have to admit that that the big airs are currently done, the guys who are chosen have a much better chance of doing well.

Precisely. and its not as if the doubles that they will be throwing will be hucked and hideous. all 4 of them will have grabs and stomp the shit out of them.

also how much you wanna bet that assuming the jump is big enough, harlaut throws down the sw 14 or 16

Walker/hornbeck/martini > Gus.

Not hating on gus, but its king of style and those other guys have better style.

And to the guy who said the winner will do a double, i'm pretty sure the king of style is different, didn't richard permin win with a switch 7 or something last year? I'm pretty sure style is very heavily weighed.

ill agree to walker and hornbeck. martini... meh, just not a fan. hes sick, but i dont think his style is any better than gus's.

it doesnt matter though wallisch will win

i wonder if anyone realizes that hornbecks edit had only 7's in it, but in turbo and the extras he does sw 10, rodeo 9mute to japan, cork 9 into pow, etc etc. all stomped as fuck. sucks that he went for the style thing and got robbed.

Hornbeck got robbed.
Like most others have said, nothing against this Gus guy, but I don't think he's there yet... a number of those other entires sure trumped his. Definitely some corrupt shit going on, right Rich P? Once again, the right sponsors and the inside hookup seems to be more important then skills, even in an open voting situation.
Again, Hornbeck got robbed.

ok clarkes edit was the worst ever cosco i thought was good but not that great style def doesnt have anything on hornbeck or walker which should have been in it. and gus's was pretty good but could have been better. And personally i think henrik has better style then all of them other then besides maaaybe wallisch and what happened to henrik's edit anyway will he still go to the comp?

They are gonna look for biggest tricks and Hornbeck, as much as I would like to see go, only did up to a 7, sick 7s and all that, but I guess just not what they would be looking for. Gus was doing doubles off of several jumps, flips off rails, plus 9s and 10s. (I think 10s)

i'm not hating on him. i just think that he doesn't have as polished a style as some of the others. however, i am very happy for the kid, props to any NSer getting a big break, we should all back them 100%.

as was said above, it's not like other big air contests. Last year, permin won with a sw7, there were 10s and roo flips being thrown.

this is one of my problems with skiing. gus and clarke have style. so they dont have crazy ride away but that doesnt mean they have no style, its just different. but apparently just because they dont look thug enough on their landings they cant be in the comp? im not in any way hating on wallisch or hornbeck, they are some of my favorite skiers, but there are other styles out there.

it's the difference between being able to do a trick, and doing a trick in a smooth, controlled, individual, or otherwise aesthetic way.
I don't hate gus, I don't hate his riding, but he doesn't have that extra aspect of control that others do IMO. I like watching him ski, but he I don't think he should have gone before some of the others.
either way though, good job gus.
