Knuckle or Overshoot?

I was thinking about it and I don't know what's worse. Do you guys think? Is knuckling or overshooting a jump the most painful?

How bout would you rather do a Dumont over-shoot, or a Tanner knuckle? But over-shooting is fucking scary on a large jump.

I'd rather Tanner Hall any day. Simon could've died from that fall.

i would rather tanner hall than simon dumont for sure, if you tanner hall you become famous and get a dubstep remix of your crash

I dont' think you can call what happened to Tanner a 'knuckle'. That is an undershoot of a gap jump, and comes with a whole other set of horrible circumstances.

In my mind a knuckle means hitting the knuckle and not before it.... which sucks but the terrible possibilities of an overshoot dramatically outweigh any knuckle.

Now, would you rather overshoot or undershoot a gap jump and you've got a debate on your hands.

Depends on the conditions. If it's a legit pow day, then I'm trying to land in Alta's parking lot, but if not then I'm going to try and tranny-find the landing.

Personally I'd rather overshoot. I've knuckled so many times. Concussions, blackouts, soo many faceplants. Including the knuckle to eject skis to face drag-frontflip down the landing. But thats just my experience

The problem with knuckling is that you also might bounce down to spot where you would have landed if you overshot... so it's either two impacts or one big impact.

This. At my home mountain we have a "kicker" pretty big I guess. But if you overshoot to the flat you have broken legs. I'd knuckle that over overshoot any day of the week

I would knuckle any day over an oveshoot at the jumps at my home mountain. If you were too overshoot like big are dave on these jumps you would probably break your legs. scary as hell.

Overshoot all day cause then at least you're a boss and not a pussy who didn't go fast enough.

When I think about you + knuckling a jump it reminds me of a certain video...haha

Well I would prefer somewhere in the middle, but if I had to choose I would rather undershoot.

i over shot a jump at windells it hurt but my feet hurt for bit but not too bad then the next day i tried a nose butter 5 safety landed all the way in the bottom it hurt so bad

Ask this guy

I've fucked myself up overshooting jumps, but knuckling has never really been that bad. It kind of depends on the jump, though

Dude....Grammar

it depends how bad you knuckle it. if you bounce a little and you roll down the landing, its not as bad because all of the energy gets transferred over the course of the roll. if you come up so short you land straight down on the knuckle and don't move at all, that shit hurts and sends a shockwave up your whole spine.

same with overshooting...if you take it to the end of the gucci plateau with a little bit of transition where you can sit it down and still slide out of it, not so bad. but if you overshoot to the flat simon dumont style, then you are just doing the same thing as knuckling it short but falling 2 or 3 times the distance. so that would suck

Overshot a huge kicker once doing a mute tailgrab. Landed on my face on the hard-pack landing and tore my face up. Lots of blood, lots of pain.

Knuckle. Overshooting Has way more air and its makes it more painful

Overshoot, I hate knuckling so much.

So many posts that contradict themselves / answer a different question.

No way dude, a mute tailgrab?! Can you teach it to me?

that still has to be one of the most brutal diggers ever recorded. I don't think ive never cringed watching that crash.

Yeah man... dude got fucked up.

I'll never understand why people say overshoot. I mean sure if you go too deep in the landing then whatever its better than a knuckle.... but if you actually land past the landing on the flats its like dropping off of a 6-story building to concrete.

overshooting any expert line jump... you break leg or hip..

my Surface skis snapped from overshooting the Carinthia build

This thread has been made several times and one pretty recent.

Also obviously overshooting is worse. Knuckling isn't really bad unless there's a gap and then that's not knuckling that's coming up short in a gap.

Overshooting is horrible. If you think knuckling is bad you haven't overshot a jump. Not landing deep, overshot. If you had the answer is obvious.

Knuckling's not that bad compared to overshooting. I mean think about the physics of it. Knuckling you have accelerated towards the ground for a short amount of time before landing flat. Overshooting you have been accelerating toward the ground for much, much longer before landing flat. It's a no-brainer.
