Knocked Out

So yesterday I was at northstar. My brother and I thought we'd do a run on moonshine (the biggest jumps). Northstar is my home mountian and I've hit those jumps plenty of times, but I hadn't be there in a few weeks and they had rebuilt and moved the jumps. I got to be the guinea pig. I wanted to make sure that I did deck out, so I pretty much striaght lined it (a few carves) from the last box before the first jump (flat down box with stairs around it). The last thing I remember was being up in the air knowing that I had overshot. I woke up to my brother (emt trained) checking me out. I slowly came to, my leg hurt worse than anything, but I could stand so we skied down. Went into ski patrol to see if they had a sheet for concuscions, but wasn't planning on being treated. They ended up taking me in. After intial x-rays on my neck and leg they put me in a c-collar. The x-rays were inconclusive so they called an ambulance to transport me to the truckee er. Put me on the backboard, taped down my head, the whole deal. I had more x-rays, they were all negative, and a cat-scan to check my head out. Everything checked out good, so after 5 hours in a c-collar (super uncomfortable) I was released with just a sore neck, leg and a concuscion. I don't even have a head ache, I'm not on medication, perfectly fine. But it could have been much worse. Moral of the story, always ski by a jump before you hit it. We had hit this jump several times this season and even had spotters, but I misjudged. Sorry about the length.

oh, and the worst damage was too my two day old stl's. I must have landed one foot on top of the other because there is a huge split in the edge of the top sheet, and a big core shot which was fresh after the jump, can't explain that one.

wow man you are lucky as hell. Ya overshooting jumps can get u really hurt. I overshot a table this weekend on a cork 5 and landed flat and slammed my face and chest into the snow. I thot i was hurt alot worse than I was, but I just got the wind knocked outta me and bloody nose. I sessioned the park all day after that. Im so grateful that it wasn't worse

And that sux about your skis man.....at least it was them and not you.

newbies are our future unless if we stop them now!

chummer3:Dude I once took a shit, one loaf was so huge it popped out, when i flushed the thing broke in two. In a way it was kind of like the titanic. It was probably the most monumental shit of my life.
skiierman:As the captain, you should have probobly gone down with the shit.

I was at N* yesterday too, I had just gotten down to the bottom of the back side, and all of a sudden a helocopter came over the hill it circled once, then it started huvering, I didnt see where it was going to land, but it ended up landing like 15 ft from us. It was the coolest thing ever, Ihad never been that close to a helocopter, it was kicking up all the snow on us, it was pretty cool, but I guess someone got hurt pretty bad though, anyone know what happened?

:)

^ haha i thought you were just babbling on about a helicopter

I've only ever overshot a tiny 15 foot table. Overshooting is by far my biggest fear. It usually takes me forever to get the speed for a jump dialed because i'm so afraid of overshooting so i usually go to slow. Anyways yea man, scary shit.

As for ski patrol... DON'T go unless you know you have broken something or are going to die or something. Doctors are sooo unreasonable and they'll tell you that you can't ski for the rest of your life or something even if you just have a sprained thumb. Plus the paper work etc. One of my snowboard friends got hurt off some jump and went to ski patrol. Her mom was coming to pick her up, but they forced her to take an ambulance. FORCED HER.

yeah this weekend on Sunday I knocked myself out for 3 min. at our airsite. I don't remeber anything that happened on Sunday. Its a really weird feeling.

undershooting is so much less painful than overshooting.

i overshot a table doing a switch three this weekend and it sucked ass. Overshooting and landing switch is far worste than overshooting and landing forwards

I heard them talking about the helicopter while i was in first aid, but I didn't get the story. We were just stopping to see if they had a check list for treating a concusion, but they ended up taking me in.
