Knees?...

i dunno what happened...but Saturday i was trying to do this urban rail at frost and i finally slid it perfectly...but somehow on the landing i REALLY screwed up my knee..and then i did a really stupid thing and i did another rail after my fall..and i did the rail fine but i just heard a pop and collapsed on the landing and screwed up my knee even more. so now i can hardly move it and i have to limp around and crap...i have to take stairs one at a time ...ughh this sucks. plus my right knee is at least 2 times as big as my left one.

^ that was written on sunday

i went to the doc today and then i got x-rays and wed i've gotta go to some orthapedic guy who's gonna tell me i gotta get an MRI...i'm guessing next week.

this sucks so much. and when they ask me what happened i feel stupid talking about rails and stuff b/c no one knows what i'm talking about haha

the worst part is i dont know exactly what happened...all i remember is hearing a pop and then me stuffing my face into the snow and going "shit my knee!!".........and then ski patrol came and out of nowhere and tried to put down my binding from the ski that had fallen off using her hands and she couldnt it was pretty funny...but anyways

teh doc said that at a first guess it might be a tear in the cartilage...

hopefully i'll be able to ski at least once more before the end of the season...until then, i'm gonna be filming people i guess...

so when i get the MRI i guess i know if i'll be able to get back on skis this season... i'm not too optimistic....this really sucks

any advice is appreciated...

my question is should i lower my dins? my left ski popped off both times i fell but my right stayed on and i screwed up my right knee...

you can lower your dins if you want, but then you run the risk of the skis popping off when you dont want them too. until you get back out on the snow though, ice it and take it easy. my shins are still killing me from the slopestyle friday night. ice is key.

hey haha im just trying to get advice thats all...

and no it doesnt click when i walk...so thats good

i find out more tomorrow morning, hopefully

i hate to worry you but just b/c your knee isn't clicking doesn't mean it wasn't a miniscal tear...i did mine 2 times and it doesn't click at all...regardless of that however i would say just take it easy and don't rush back to skiing...there's no point in hurting it worse for a few days this season...lots of rehab and listen to what the doctors say (they went to 8 years of school, you don't know more than they do contrary to what some people think) sorry for the long post...good luck!

yeah i'm my dins are set on 7... i'll probably end up keeping them the same...

most of the time when my skis pop off its for a good reason...

update.....oh man. i went to some orthopedic place today and it was so awesome...first the doc felt around my knee and said that it was super swollen, which was unusual for how much i could bend it

then he said i would feel better if he drained some of the fluid. haha. so he sticks this massive needle in my knee and it has a clear container thing attatched to it so you can see how much fluid comes out/what it looks like/how bloody it is. haha so he's expecting like 2 tablespoons or something to come out...not a lot. so by the time he's done jabbing this thing in my knee (which really hurt but i didnt want to be a wuss so i didnt say anything) i sit up and the entire container thing is full. it was pretty big too...it was so funny and gross b/c it was kinda bloody ughhhhhhh yuck...

it felt a lot better after he did that though..i'm walking so much better...i still have to limp but not as much

so he said 65% of all ski injuries are ACL related

but ....i DIDNT TEAR MY ACL!!!!! YAHOOOO!!

but.....he's pretty confident i tore my MCL but he doesnt know how badly yet...i have to get an MRI before the weekend sometime

so he said no skiing this weekend (i figured that) but if the mri said it wasnt that bad of a tear, (and he doesnt think it was) and i rehabbed like crazy and i was feeling okay I WILL SKI AGAIN BEFORE THE END OF THE SEASON. like 2-3 weeks if its not a bad tear (he said he was quietly optimistic)

so PLEASE GOD PLEASE MAKE THE SEASON LAST UNTIL THEN....at least one more weekend......pretty please with sugar on top???!

ughhh...yeah i doubt i'll try anything new...just stick it to easy rails or something...i'm gonna be hesitant either way....

and i'm definitely gonna be wearing a knee brace

just take it easy megan. you dont want to hurt yourself the day you come back. just be careful. it would suck to see you get hurt from coming back too soon and then have you ruin your summer. just be smart. and keep us posted on how you are doing.

my mom sprained her mcl and has just started skiing again this past week. definately wear a brace and dont ski park, seriously. impact from the crappy landings on rails around here is gonna make things much worse, especially since you will be coming back right around spring skiing time when the snow is soft and you sink in and fall weird sometimes. if you twist the wrong way, you could make things way worse than they are.

yeah....good point....falling and twisting in the wrong directions is one of those things i think about, especially now, and i shudder and twitch and stuff ughh

my plan right now, given its just a minor tear, is to ski a couple runs (once i'm ready for it, of course. i'm not rushing things...), take it easy, and then sit out a few and film maybe...

I found I couldnt find a cheap brace that gave my MCL support... do the rehab they tell you to do and you'll be skiing in 2 weeks or less. My knee wasnt 100% till may but I re-f'ed it up a month after I hurt my MCL... I was launching huge tables and rails 3s 5s 7s 3-4 weeks after I initially tore it, it will feel ok but I suggest just taking it easy and being happy you can ski. Do the rehab and forget the brace... unless you find one that seriously protects your mcl and bending your knee inward how it hurts...

update....(not that anyone cares but i'm bored):

i just got my MRI and they gave me a copy to keep of the films...haha i dont know how to read them but they're pretty cool...

haha that was really hard...staying still for 35 minutes....i was so afraid i was going to move....heh

so they're sending out a copy to my doc and he's going to tell me what's actually wrong with my knee around 3 or 4 tomorrow afternoon...so until then.........

oh and i almost forgot......i had to listen to really loud smooth jazz for like 40 minutes......no offence to anyone that likes it but i couldnt stand it....ahh it was so horrible....

I sprained my acl at RT trying to learn to 270 off... two weeks without skiing and i had to crutch around on christmas... rails blow

i had a brain tumor and they wanted to check if i had any on my spine so they pretty much took an mri of my entire body... i was all drugged up so it was really hard to stay still... by the end of it i was seeing shit. it was def one of the more messed up expeirences of my life

damn... that sucks i just got cleared to ski again today from mine, goodluck with the whole process, go to physical therapy alot and take it easy.

for anyone that's following ....:

ahhhhhh i went to the orthopedic surgeon guy yesterday and i'm scheduled for surgery March 17th at Brandywine Hospital!!!!!!!

we went over all of the surgical options (how i'm gonna get a new acl) and they said they didn't want to put a dead guy's acl in my knee because i'm only 15 and they didnt want to risk any viruses or infections or anything they dont know about yet...so he told me i would be best off using a slice of my hamstring for my acl. so thats what i'm going to do....i'm pretty nervous...then i'm on crutches and a knee immobilizer thing until i feel comfortable putting weight on it and stuff...he said it should be like a week before i get off crutches so thats good...and i start physical therapy two weeks after surgery.

bad thing is (even though i expected it...) no more skiing this year.

in fact, he doesn't want me doing any "high risk" sports like skiing or mountain biking for 8-10 months, preferrably longer....

...but i'm really determined to rehab and get this fixed so hopefully all will go well and i'll be ready sooner rather than later...

oh and they also think i tore my medial meniscus (cartilage)...and they don't know if they can fix it...if not, they said it would probably fix itself.

probably.

good luck with the rehab... medial meniscus will probably get worked out during PT, otherwise there are operations they can do...

also I am suprised at you have surgery and only being 15... they wanted my friend to wait till he this summer... so like 4 or 5 years to do his ACL as he is pretty much done growing now...
