Hi folks.

This year in february i made an awful fall on ski.

I torn my foremost cruciate ligaments and ive just been to surgery one and a half month ago. I plan to go ski in february again, but what will I be able to do, if anything? And should I use some kind of bandage? Experiences with other people who tried the same is much appreciated.

Thanks.

invest in a visit to a physiotherapist, get some excersizes and some advice, you should only need to go once if you ask teh right questions

how long off

what excersizes, etc.

^ Yep. A good physio can go a long way.

Listen to what he says.

Ask what exercises and the intensity at which they should be done during the various stages of rehab. Work hard at it (but do NOT over do it).

You'll make it. Time is essential. Don't sit around watching your favourite episode of Friends when you should be rehabbing. Make a schedule. And stick to it.

Good luck

^ Good advice..

In addition, braces can definitely help. Slight amount of support.. and there is a pychological aspect to them as well.. Being it keeps you aware of your condition.

surgery, physical therapy, then do your own training.

I had surgery on may 25th on my acl and miniscus after I blew them in march. I went to TOSH in slc, they are awesome.

its picks up quick if u work hard, just go to the gym and ride a bike alot too. get all your range and motion back then build your muscle back and you should be good to go man.

I will be ready to ski again in november and I feel pretty good. my leg just isn't the same size as my other one, so I buildin the muscle back, and I'll be good. and make sure u do alot of balance excercises, if u need some help with those just ask me.

If you haven't been rehabing than DONT ski! Rehab is such an essential part of the healing process and if you havent been doing it all you're going to do is screw your shit up again. I got a patella replacement on my knee and I was back skiing (just a few boxes and rails) in 5 months, but thats only because of rehab.

There are several cults devoted to ski injuries. If you are interested in stories galore message the leaders for invites???

Sorry i forgot to mention. I go to a physiotherapist two times a week since surgery. I have excersices that i do every day. And im going to start riding my bike again tomorrow morning to school. I can even run a little at the moment, but im told its too early so taking it easing with that part. My rehabilitation is above average im pretty curtain.

What im interested in is, will I be able to ski at the same level as before? I plan on going to canada in the 08/09 season for 3-4 months to ski (I live in Denmark).

Im told that when I go ski this february i should use some kind of bandage like this one:

Is that necessary? And would be able to pull any tricks? With safety in the mind, im not planning on screwing up my knee again, because of doing something i cannot.

i broke my fib and tore my LCL a couple years ago.

i would say to avoid running because of the pounding and to bike a bunch.

and if you're sitting watching TV:

- sit on chair

- lift one leg up in air

- stand up using other leg

(don't do this exercise too early cause it might make things worse, but later when you're getting stronger)

and don't skate or play basketball if you plan on skiing this winter

^YES. yoga is good. all balance excercises are good.

and talk to your doctor about bands and braces. he can awnser your questions and point you in the right direction. I do know donjoy makes a nice custom brace, and if u blow your knee again I think they pay for your surgery.

and u should be able to ski just as hard as before. you just gotta take it easy at first. you will know when your ready.

lots of people come back fully from injuries, u just gotta train hard and get strong again. aka symms, pep, kyler, my buddy pete, lubeck-wanty...the list goes on man.
