Knee problem?

So over winter break I skied like 5 days in a row(I almost never get to ski this much)and we were at Big Sky/Bridger bowl so I wasn't doing much park. I was going pretty hard, for me anyway. I don't know if my knees are just sore from going hard or if I injured them. I didn't really have any falls where I felt knee pain but I had a few hard landings/falls. What do you guys think?

You are probably fine, just sore. When I blew my ACL is was a loud, violent pop. I knew I had done something. If nothing like that happened, you are probably fine. You might have done something, so you might want to see a doctor.

My knee always feels like I need to I flex it back to be comfortable until I hear a pop. This has gone on for four years and nothing major has ever changed for me.....

I always get sore knees from overshooting a landing on a backy or something so I fix it by wearing two braces bc I'm old (16)

it's just sore from over use. ice and stretch. also baths/hottubs

I used to get really sore knees from running steeple chase

Sore is ok! As long as it doesn't last. When I tore my ACL I definitely heard it and knew something was wrong as soon as I hit the ground. Be honest with yourself if you took any hard falls. A very common side effect of a torn ligament is instability of that knee. Mine would buckle a lot just randomly before I got my surgery. If you have any doubts, see an orthopedic surgeon.

Yea I'm 16 too, and I've had to deal with my knee's bullshit since grade seven. I think I ought to head by the doctor sometime and ask about it.

You guys think your knees hurt now, just wait.

I really didn't want to make a new thread but I was skiing yesterday and on my first run over shot a jump by 30-40 feet and landed flat. I went to the clinic at the mountain and saw a physicians assistant and he told me that I had a sprained PCL and or LCL and should be fine in 10 days. I am not fully solid that I am that OK partly because it's amazing I skied away from that crash. So my question is has anyone had injurys to other cruciate ligaments and not the ACL and if you have done your ACL did it get diagnosed first try?

Just keep an eye on it. Usually if you injure your knee it's pretty obvious and painful

Wait a second... what? Your old? Your body hasn't even finished growing yet. Wait til you're 30 then talk to me about knee pain.

fuck. today my knee was buckling after a gnarly double ejection. I've never really been injured before, where do i go? i've only ever broken my femur when I was a kid.

To the hospital or an orthopedic surgeon...

Sorry. Uncalled for? Not sure.

Anyways, on a more serious note. If you don't think you are in bad enough shape to go see a orthopedic surgeon to have an MRI done, consider a visit to a Physical Therapist, and preferably one who has had experience with skiers. They can give you a pretty accurate assessment of what's going on with your body without the cost of an MRI. And they'll give you safe exercises to strengthen and help support the injured area.

There, that was more helpful, right?

This^

I blew my knee out last February, and it still hurts. I slayed PT, and am stronger than ever but after one day skiing it hurts yet. Hopefully next year will be better.

You know it when you blow your ACL.

I feel you man I did my ACL and MCL last year. So rough

I'm recovering from an MCL tear right now. I was able to get up and ski away, and I kept skiing for a week before I finally had I checked out. I never heard a pop and I wasn't in excruciating pain. So just because you're able to get around and do stuff does not mean that you didn't do any damage. If you don't have it fixed early on, It's going to come back and haunt you later in life. Make an appointment with a specialist and have it checked out.

Mine wasn't even close to being diagnosed first day (ACL). They thought it was an mcl sprain for 3 months and after it wasn't healing I had an MRI done which showed a torn acl and meniscus

do most people who injure their knees ski with a brace on after the fact? I mean if it isn't uncomfortable it cant hurt

my knees have been killing since middle school i am sure hockey and skiing doesnt help. probably need to ask doc sometime soon

Could you walk/run/ski on it?

I did it during football so I don't know about the skiing part but I just got up and walked away and I could run until it became to swelled up to bend it

This week both of my knees are sore or something. I can't really run up the stairs and hitting jumps is painful. My knees feel more fatigued than in pain. They were fine all weekend but sunday night when i went to go to bed i noticed it. It still hasnt gotten better and its been 4 days. Any experience with this?

I've experienced pain in my right knee over the past two seasons. For me it came down to my right leg being the weaker of the two. While skiing I ended up doing equal work between my left and right and the right leg got sore because it wasn't use to the forces/impacts.

What helped me was two things: (1) Short term: Taking a couple days off (while applying ice/heat/pressure) and (2) Long term: Strengthening my non-dominant leg. Go to the gym and either work on that weak leg or both depending on your case. Butt muscles especially ;)

You're going to experience soreness regardless but if you can get in better shape it won't be as bad.

Yup I was talking with this girl I work with and she has a masters in kinesiology i think it is and she said strengthening your glutes is huge for your knees, it takes a massive amount of pressure off of them.

So my knee is starting to feel a lot better, it hasn't buckled in probably 4-5 days. I've been wearing a brace. thinking about testing it out on the hill on monday. Anyone have any tips for testing you knee out aside from just skiing?

If you're not swelling it's likely just general knee soreness. nothing more you can do than taking some days off and icing. I get that really bad throughout the season
