a couple of days ago, i hurt my knee and i got a few questions. i didnt even realize my knee hurt until about half an hour after my crash. i can put weight on it and everything i just cant extend it fully without pain. does anybody know if its serious and wat things i should do?

deff sounds serious

go to house doctor or sports doctor to get checked

no matter what they say make sure u get an MRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my docter didnt due this and fucked me over a full 14months!!!!!

i do it all the time....it 1st happened getting offa lift when i used to board....my knee twisted and felt popping.....couldnt put much pressure on it for a couple days but x-rays showed nothing...you might have just sprained it....it's happened to me a bunch of times now....i stay off it for a day force myself to walk on it and it always feels better

ya but the only weird thing to me is that i didnt even notice it for a while and i dont usually feel pain.

it could for sure be your MCL. I've half torn both of mine, and that sounds like it sort of. except just maybe on a less intense level. You MCL is on the inside of your knee, (right knee on left side, left knee on right side) So if you find something there that hurts check it out. MCLs and ACLs are crafty little ligaments thouhg. You think your fine, and that its not serious, cause you can run and jump and in my case i was able to do a ropes course at the highest level. So yea, get it checked.

I did my MCL and I could put zero weight on it.i had no movement and it trobbed with pain. If you're still able to move it, ice it, rest it, and give it a couple days. that'll all you'll end up doing if it was serious anyways

yeah, just get it looked at by a physician. i didn't get my knee checked out after i hurt it until a month later, and it turned out i tore my acl. doesn't sound like that kind of tear, but yeah- get it looked at.

well i know the mcl is a lot more important than the acl, and that you can live without an acl but you cant walk around without an mcl. so if you tore your mcl then thats even worse than tearing your acl, and i think your insurance should cover an mri. maybe not. nevermind, i have no clue.

how old are u?

don't be fucking stupid and listen to the 15yo's telling u to ice it and rest it, they're 15 and made of rubber and have no idea what they're talking about. people tear there acl's all time and don't know. my buddy tore his and just rested and iced for 2 weeks then kept riding for another 3 months, then landscaped all summer, then rode half a year, and it still hrt him some. got it checked out and his acl, and some other shit were completely torn, he was just tough about it and didn't do shit for 2 years.

go to a doctor, tell him to give u an mri, not an x-ra, it could be a number of things, knees are tricky things, and everyone has different symptoms. yes they are expensive but u don't want to find out that it actually was something torn 2 years later and have arthitis and pain in ur knee for the rest of ur life. u do want to ski for the rest ur life right?

if u don't have health insurance, ur just plain stupid. get some, and get an mri. a knee injury can usaully wait, but i wouldn't do any activity till then, and it can make the recovery longer.

go get it checked.

how old are you

i had surgery last feb. for my acl, pcl, and lateral miniscus. my buddy i was talking about had his in may. had surgery by a surgeon that does nhl atheletes. i know a little about knees now.

go get it checked.

every other option has a risk having knee pain for the rest of your life....sweet....go get it checked.

I just finished PT on both my knees this past summer. It wasn't fun, Stretched ACL in one and stretched tendons in the other. I still exercise them a couple times a week. If I could give you any advice I'd say to ice them bitches down and go to a specialist, like your Sports Dr. You are prob gonna need a referral from your reg DR, but get it done. Your knees are nothin to fuck with

I have done my knee 2x.  MRI is approx 1,000$ us give or take.  They are only 70% accurate (meaning it will say u are ok when you really are not).  The thing to do is to go to an orthopedic specialist and have it checked out.  Cost approx 75$ us.  do u have insurance? cuz getting yer knee done is not cheap.  It is important to find some one who is really good..cuz there are people out there who don't know what the fuck they are doing. Find some one who does a shit load of knees, and see them.  Good luck

my knee has got better today, i could walk well and go down the stairs like i used to be able to and i could even jump on my trampoline, i just couldnt get mute grabs without hurting my knee. today was good.

if you have a good doctor they won't need to do an mri, mris can be misleading.  they will just pull on your knee and tell you what's torn.

Yes.....STOP BEING A FUCKING IDIOT AND GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Even if your knee is feeling better, getting less swollen, increased range of motion, etc.....guess what? You could have still fucked up your knee. Just because "it's feeling better, I can jump on my tramp, or I can bend over backwards and stick my head in my ass without pain!" Doesn't mean that your knee is okay.

Three years ago I tweaked my knee skiing in Feb.... dug around for 10 mins to find ski, even skied a half day afterwards, but I knew something was up. Didn't have health insurance so I couldn't afford to get it checked out as I should have and basically RICE'd it the rest of the season. Well as it turns out, I totally blew my MCL....had to get it fixed a couple years later, and now have issues with Patellor-Femoral tracking syndrome, cracking, popping, pain, the whole 9 yards.

SO, IN SHORT.....SINCE IT SEEMS YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR KNEE, GO FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT BEFORE YOU DO MORE DAMAGE.....DUMBASS!!!

A good ortho......Hell, even a good physical therapist will be able to give you some idea what is wrong with it without taking xrays or getting an MRI. They can move and stretch your knee to feel for laxity in ligaments...or if anything is torn. If you have done something seriously wrong, then they will let you know what the best course of action is (likely surgery). If you haven't done something serious to it, then you may get off easy with RICE or time off. Try not to be a douche and ask a million more stupid questions here....go ask your doctor.

Yeah if it was the ACL ummm they wouldn't be able to walk. That kind of injury you know right off the bat that something is wrong, probably from the sherr and utter pain.

happened to me last season, just alternate heat and ice when your just chilln

(still now when im running, and my legs go to far back my right knee aches and i have to stop. take an asprin or 4 before you ski and you should be good, synthetic stretch haha)

after doing mine twice, you can walk afterward, i skied down the mountain. but ya you definetley know your fucked immediately. you could have partially torn something could be something with your platella, maybe your meniscus, could be an issue with one of ur bones or maybe one of the lateral ligaments. your knee is a complicated place and its not going to be properly diagnosed online. if you have issues with it go see a doc, preferably a sports medicine guy because they realize that you want to ski so they are gonna tell you the fastest way to heal it. good luck, knees suck.

haha. that's me, only i was 16.

and even now a little hurt back is still with me from almost 2 weeks ago...

listen to what everybody else said. go to a doctor and get an MRI. x-rays won't tell you anything about ligaments, you need an MRI. my advice would be to go straight to a doctor in orthopeadics. i tore my ACL last may and my brother has torn his twice. i had pain when bending and extending it but you can walk and run fine. just by feeling my knee and figuring out where i had pain, my doctor thought i had torn my meniscus, but after looking at the results from the MRI it was very clear that i had torn my ACL. torn ACLs require surgery if you want to return to sports. it also depends on whethor or not they are completely torn. other ligaments like the MCL can heal without surgery because they get more blood flow. go to the doctor and get it checked or else you can risk damaging it more.

Doctor time.

I fractured my knee cap this summer and had to chill in a full leg brace for 7 months, and might be able to be 100% by the end of the season. Knee injuries are not something to fuck around with, as they are the most common injury in skiing. Look at some of the pros/lifetime locals who have had 5+ knee surgeries. You want to do everything you can to avoid that. This includes getting a proper diagnosis from a properly trained doctor, not an opinion online from a bunch of groms and a few people who have hurt their knees before.

I dont think its a torn acl coz shouldnt it hurt right away? At least when i tore mine it hurted like hell immediatly and i couldnt walk properly for like a week, but i guess it can be different with different people. But check if your insurance covers the MRI and even if it doesnt its still good to go to the MRI

JUST GO TO YOUR DOCTOR FFS, OKAY?

YOU MAY NOT HAVE TO TAKE A MRI. BUT AT LEAST YOU GET SOMEBODY TO CHECK YOUR KNEE, AND MAYBE FIGURE OUT WHATS WRONG.

Any good Dr isn't going to jump right in and have you get an MRI. 1st, by examination, they should be able to tell how serious your injury is and then in most cases they would have you do PT 1st, and if that isn't helping then they have you r get an MRI.

Yeah minor tear in my MCL from football in the first play of my college football careeer. i played the next play until i knew somehting was really wrong with it. I couldn't walk on it and when i moved my leg around my knee hurt like hell and it kept feeling like the kneww was flopping around or slipping out. Not something to mess around with.

DON"T GET AN X-RAY. Won't show you anything really if the ligament is partially torn or serverly streched. The streching can lead to a tear if your to aggreesive.

My Dr. Burger who was an orthopedic surgeon and does BENGALS players occassionally told me an x-ray won't show anything thats why MRI. I was out for 7 weeks and wasn't fully healed feeling for like 7 months after it happened. So make sure you get it check a familly doctor will probally only recommend you to another doctor. You should rehab the hell out of it too. Thats why doing quads and hamstrings before season or any sporting activity is good.

It just sounds like you bruised your knee. I've bruised my knees several times and it's just swollen and sore for a few days then gets better. You'd definitely know if you tore a ligament. When I tore my acl and meniscus I was in a lot of pain and couldn't walk for 2 weeks and it swells like a mofo. It sounds like you're doing better already so i'd say it's something minor like a bruise or a sprain.
