Knee injuries

well...i think i might've torn a ligament in my knee, but i'm not sure...i mean its gotta be a minor one if i can still walk...i don't wanna go to the doctor though, cause they might say i can't ski...

anyone out there know what its like to tear a ligament?

if the doctor would say no skiing then you should not be skiing, it could cause you bigger problems later and make you miss more skiing

I just did the same thing and I am also walking, but with a brace. It is necessary to see a doctor, even if something is partially torn it has potential to be completely torn. This means longer recovery and even a longer time away from skiing. Do the right thing. MRI will tell you what you need to know.

Good Luck.

i have had surgery on both of my knees......if you dont go to the doctor you will never recovery fully, it might suck that you cant ski, but you have to think long term.......just go get it checked out!

you can easily walk with a torn acl, which is a very serious injury. i partially tore my acl, get a custom brace and rode pretty well for about a month. doin nuthin special i totally shredded whatever was left even ridin in the brace. it doesnt matter if its a lil tore or completely severd its a recon either way. the sooner you get the surgery the sooner you get back. good luck on a speedy recovery. take it from someon whos blown both acls, get it figured out.

Ignoring it doesn't make it any better, that's for sure. It's worth your time to get knees checked out, they're pretty important.

like the thread post before go get it checked out you maybe able to get away with a brace for the rest of the year??? did you hear anything when you fell??? and when does it hurt (walking fully extending turing stuff like that)

If your knee is all still swelled up, dont go to the doctors right away, he'll just tell ya to come back when the swelling is gone so he can see what the damage is. Put lots of ice on your knee and take it easy, Crutches can help is you have trouble walking. Or you can just wrap a bandage tightly around your knee, that always stabilizes it and diminishes the pain.

I over-rotated a D-spin in the Whistler backcoutry a few years back and when I finally made it down to the hospital, the doctor told me that I had torn my ACL and probably my PCL too and that I had to get surgery. I was so depressed. I believed him cause well, as an emergency doctor at the Whistler village Hospital, he must see so much of this type of shit. So I got a apointment 3 weeks later with a surgeon and when I met him, the swelling was gone and, and he told me I only had light tear on my LCL which does not require surgery, just some time off!

So, in resume, take it easy, lots of ice and tight bandages for a few weeks till the swelling is gone and then go see a specialist. Take the appointment right ways actually. Good luck man....

i partial tore my acl and mcl near the end of last season skiing (in april), i didnt know what had happened at first only that my knee hurt so i went skiing for another 2 weeks of the season and made things worse, dont know how worse yet im getting an MRI soon, im skiing in a knee brace right now, if u feel like u could ski on it, id advise getting a knee brace to ski in, mine has saved my knee many times

yee i fucked up my knee like 3 weeks ago now, i never thought it was that serious because i was able to ski for 2 hours after. took 2 weeks off it got my brace on it and i can do everything with my brace i overshot a jump with FRODO.^^ by like 20 feet no pain at all and w/o the brace it hurt to catch a wee bit of air off a roller

i heart my knee brace oh ya i didn't go to a doc cause my dads a chiro and he told me that where it is its my mcl and so i didn't need an MRI or waste any of my rents money. thats 2000 dollars saved for summercamps lol

theres a reason why the doctor would say you cant ski and you should probably listen to him or you'll just fuck it up more

last year around march, i was hit at the top of a landing by a snowboarder. i was trying a slow floaty truck 5, but only got 450 around. when i was hiking up to get my skis (my pals were telling people not to go) a boarder went, did some gay circle arm move, and hit my right knee forcing me to get 16 stitches. now whenever i squat too far down, or land in backseat at all, my right knee gives out.

just cause u can walk doesnt mean its not completely torn...when i fully tore my ACL i could still walk

and yeah go to the doctor and save ur self a lot more pain then missing the season...potentially

so a broken knee cap or something?? march is not too bad...id much rather have any broken bone, even the femur than a torn acl. the recovery is much faster from almost any injury than it is for a blown knee.

I had my ACL replaced 10 years ago, missed the rest of the season but came back strong as ever the next.

I have a friend that ignored a torn ACL for a few years. It worked fine for him most of the time but would pop out from time to time when he put too much pressure on it and would end the day for him. When he finally did go in, the doctor had to trim the cartilage in his knee because he damaged it from leaving his knee loose and untreated.

You can get a new ligament but not a new meniscus, which you will damage by not getting your ACL repaired, if it is indeed torn. Get it looked at.

The fact that you can walk doesn't mean that it's not serious. I tore my ACL and meniscus last spring and I skied for a month and played soccer for another month after. All that it felt like was that it was a bit less stable and if I twisted it wrong it hurt.
